I believe the term was actually attributed to Michael Gills, who at the time was the community lead for MTGO. It was his concept, for sure, and his term. Shouting MULTIBALL! was, I think, something Alex, Erik, Walter, Thomas, Sam and Myself pretty much all did. We still do it on Facebook. Erik was just the one who wrote about it :)
I tend to agree with your assessment of Modern with two exceptions:
1) As stated because the CC people have to share a card pool, the level of decks will not be that great, IMO. That is keeping the prices low. But my next point,
2) If the format takes off, I believe your (repeated) statement that the format does not have any "financially" problematic cards will become instantly false. While you noted Jace and Tarmagoyf (which I would label as problematic), in a format being played worldwide, I think we could expect to see Ravnica duals starting to hit prices as high, if not higher, than the MED duals. Bitterblossom has hit 8 tickets now that superstandard season is over, but go back a few months and those things were fetching 30 and above. I could see Modern becoming a very expensive format.
That being said, the upside of Modern is that there are many decks that can function well with only commons and uncommons and maybe 1 or 2 rares. Think elfball or goblins or red deck wins burn. That could keep the format healthy.
I should note that temporarily there is a glich in MODO so that player channels older than yesterday can not be accessed. No eta yet on when this will be fixed.

The people seem to have moved to /join CCC2 so try that instead. :)
Multiball is a reference to pinball games where if you hit enough multipliers you get multiple balls in play and they all hit things causing much chaos and fun (think flashing lights and sounds). Wotc came up with a scoring plan in the first CCC where each teams score was multiplied by the outcomes of a multiball match in each round.
When we (the community team) started winning the multiball events (Bubba was the star there) Hamtastic (Erik) started enthusiastically shouting Multiball and it was so infectious that everyone got involved. Typical of Erik to make something fun into something even more fun and interesting.:D
I'm loving the song but I need someone to please explain me the Multiball reference. I just dont't get it! X'D
Anyway, I'm with you 100% on Modern: I really missed all my favorite cards from TSP and RAV blocks...I just need to give them another go (Boros Blink ftw!).
About gwyned's deck name: it is actually the very same deck he used in MPDC Worlds 10 (an event that occurred while I was away from MODO), but I realized that just a little too late. Besides, I've been calling the deck 3CC for the whole season, so it felt right to keep calling it that way. I guess I can correct that starting wih MPDC 13.01 - if I actually ever get the chance! NPH will bring a lot of powerful card and devious strategies in the meta, who knows if such a deck will still be competitive enough? ;-)
While I can see the point in having a backup plan in case Omnath goes away, I think Upwelling really has the potential to backfire spectacularly. Would Gemstone Array not be better in that slot? It's only half as efficient as Omnath or Upwelling but it doesn't help your opponents.
You talk about this as a possible metagame deck against Caw Blade and then there aren't any Caw Blade matches? Are the Bant Stoneforge matches supposed to representative of that matchup?
Getting key is a bad idea when you have a 2/x dork pounding down on you, for example. You'll end up with a Key and an untap activation of Tezz (and then no Tezz) and in the deck there are TWO keys and one Vault, so you are twice as likely to top deck a key for the win. You can also then play Tezz #2 or #3 and win with Vault in play - regardless of mana - whereas if you play another Tezz and have to fetch Vault, you still need 1 mana to activate, which can be important if Spell Pierce of Daze are across the board (or you simply only have 5 mana)
Most of the time, Key is the right play, but there are some situations where it isn't. I've watched a lot of situations where that was the case.
It would be great to know what you take out when sideboarding. for me it's always difficult with those tribal based decks to sideboard for example 4 Leylines.
I knew that the Commander decks wouldn't be all that powerful. I was expecting stuff similar in power to the Xira and Rubinia precons that are available, and I think that ended up being about right. Maybe a smidge more powerful. What I really want is access to the new cards and new Commanders. Unfortunately looks like we may have to wait a while.
The average CMC for the deck is 4.1, which isn't horrible. But I often found myself with a bunch of stuff that costs 5 in my hand early on in games. Plus, the X spells aren't meant to be played at their cost either. I aim for around 4 or just under, but don't always make it that low.
Forgot about Rofellos being banned already. My bad.
After this game I got to talking to the Kresh player, and gave him the list. He said it was fun, but he was always getting ganged up on. Part of the issue is that he was rushing Omnath out. And like I said, a lot of people don't like the big O. Patience is usually respected by your opponents.
That Psychosis Crawler kill is brutal though, especially since it can be done so early. Not going to make you many friends. Even in this game, Kresh had a shot (or would have if I had drawn my Acidic Slime).
In the meanwhile, I tried and fell out of love with a WU control permission list with Elspeth. I don't know, maybe it's just not my style, but I kept failing to protect her (too few creatures, so she either uses her first ability for nothing, or she creates 3 tokens just to fall prey to a single Glint Hawk).
So, I put together a very weird and rogue-like (so, that's perfect for this page!) Bant list, aimed to protect both Venser and Elspeth and maximize the card advantage, while exploiting them as answers.
It's like that, and I'm having some success with it:
SB:
4x Marrow Shards
4x Beast Within
2x Revoke Existence
2x Divine Offering
2x Ratchet Bomb
1x Sunblast Angel
Wall of Tanglecord makes Obliterator cry. And pretty much stops everything in the format. When you do turn 3 Blade Splicer into turn 4 Glimmerpoint Stag blinking the Splicer into turn 5 Venser blinking the Splicer again, you're happy. If they instantly use artifact hate against the golems (with no Precursor shenanigans involved), you're still happy, 'cause you just used 3 cards to have 6 on the battlefield.
Beacon of Creation is legal, but Rofellos is not. In paper, Rofellos is only banned as a general, same as Braids. Since they can't code a card as a banned general, they just ban Braids and Rofellos outright.
And to Scartore, that is probably the least reliable way to kill with Omnath. Omnath is mana acceleration and a giant beater all in one. You can play him similarly to Azusa or as a straight voltron. Combo is not too consistent in Mono Green though. Regardless, he is one of the fastest and, imo, best generals available. He can easily kill the table in a short time.
This was a good choice for a budget deck though, since aside from the green staples and flash-enablers, Omnath doesn't need many expensive cards to be a very strong deck. Nice job Leviathan.
When you say this deck has a lot of expensive spells exactly how expensive are you talking about. What is the average cost as shown under the "stats" window?
Do you usually have a number you shoot for when building a deck? I know a lot will depend on deck type.
It seems like a lot of the decks I build are in the 3.5 to 3.75 range.
Count me amongst the Omnath haters. Here's a fun trick, and you almost had all the pieces in play. Make your Omnath big, say 50/50. Play Psychosis Crawler. Sac Omnath to your greater good, or Momentous fall, draw 45 cards. Kill the board. And if you really want to be a jackass about it... do it on turn 6... ;)
Yeah, this format is a deckbuilder's wet dream. I sincerely hope that if it does stay around, that it remains Invasion+; Ravnica would just feel like a gimped Extended to me.
I remember you from the chat channel last Tuesday :) What did you play? Hopefully you didn't do as horribly as me, haha.

Dammit. Now I'm sad
Oh yes. Sorry, you are correct. I will shut up now :)

Just in case anyone was wondering what Paul and I brewed, here's the link to the deck http://pdcmagic.com/gatherling/deck.php?mode=view&id=16125.
Thx Paul.

Alright, this is absolutely excellent! Now I can shout "Multiball!!!" with even more emphasis! XD
Perhaps I should have put that as a sidebar.

P.S. Go CCC Team!!!
Doesn't the blister body give it a discount on the other side of that equation?
you mean 1.25 for 1
According to http://www.wizards.com/Magic/Magazine/Article.aspx?x=mtg/daily/other/060... the 8-man swiss payout is
3-0: 2x MED1, MED2, MED3, MED4
2-1: MED1, MED2, MED3
1-2: MED4
You don't get a full set for going 2-1, as you listed.
While I can see the point in having a backup plan in case Omnath goes away, I think Upwelling really has the potential to backfire spectacularly. Would Gemstone Array not be better in that slot? It's only half as efficient as Omnath or Upwelling but it doesn't help your opponents.

In all the matchups Leyline comes in your opponent has removal. As a result Treespeaker is the first cut. For my final list I'd SB like this:
-3 Treespeaker, -1 Copperhorn, -2 Corrupter, -2 Dismember; +4 Leyline, +3 Baloth, +1 Lead the Stampede
Great Article, thnx!
It would be great to know what you take out when sideboarding. for me it's always difficult with those tribal based decks to sideboard for example 4 Leylines.
As a Newbie, I am forever searching online for articles that can aid me. Convey you
