How about just banning all the cards on the reserve list from play? You dont have to reprint them if people cant play them and collectors get their wish of not reprinting them.
there is also a really nice discount if you buy via pay pal, this will often make the cards the cheapest on the net, although you do have to spend dollars instead of tickits.
Short answer: Nova and individuals will vary from the norm. Everyone sets their price according to what they think they can afford, what they think the market will bear and how quickly they want to obtain or let go of the item. MTGOtraders prices are not always the lowest (though often they are) but they provide consistency since they do not change by the minute like nova's or other bots or players. Hard to measure permutations that are in constant flux and that don't reflect any kind of market pattern.
i have a question about card prices. you list goblin welder @ 28 both this
week and last week. nova sells this card for 15-16 for couple of weeks now,
and people on classifieds are too.
how legit is using mtgotrader card prices, i wonder? especially since
you are looking at short term cardprice mutations?
According to me playing Summoning Trap is a great experience at a initial stage. But if we would like to proceed further then we may play other cards too and take the another great experience here.
Thanks a lot for all the great discussion here. ge applicances

Thanks, this helped a lot. Watched some Decktechs from the ProTour today and actually liked TemperedSteel a lot. If the other relevant decks are at a similar price I think I will start playing SOM block and after the rotation I might plunge into standard.
Tempered steel as piloted by LSV is actually quite budget:
4 hero of bladehold: currently around 9 each but may go higher since the pros explained to everyone that she is one of the best reasons to play this deck- $36
4 inkmoth nexus: This sees a ton of play and is a great way to build up your card pool. currently around 7 each- $28
2 mox opal: this help with yournut draws are hang around 10 or 11- $21
4 tempered steel: its where the deck gets its name... you need 4- $3.00
Base of the deck total: $88.00
Those are the costly unexchangables. If you dont want to shell out for them then play a different deck basically.
3 blade splicer- $4.50 If you are really strapped for cash porcelain legionare is a workable replacement (watch out he dies to morrow shards)
2 Elpeth Tirel- These are in the SB but are relativly cheap for a planeswalker... around 7ish: $14
2 Indomitable archangel- also side board stuff. Good news, they are a cheap mythic: $4.00
2 Contested warzone- from the board... these are super cheap. (does any one else remember when MBS released and these were hot items?): $1.00
The rest of the deck is all commons and uncommons. you can get the list from the mothership. Of note is the fact that you will need 4 dispatch and a one of dismember which will run you a little bit as well.
On the whole a great cheap option to win some packs with. The list will morph in time as the meta changes, but this is a good stock list to build off of. There are alot of ways to go from there so you can toy with the deck as you see fit.
*WARNING* Not everyone enjoys playing this deck since it doesnt have alot of interaction with the opponent. By no means is it easy to master, but your choices are limited most turns by mana constraints and since so much of your hand gets dumped early the deck doesnt have alot of play to it. And the mirror stinks...
@Leviathan/Whiffy. Thanks for the suggestion. Whiffy certain is a possibility if we can work out the details at somepoint. I plan to also ask Godot if he is interested.
@Fliebana thanks for posting that link. :) Wasn't sure if it was OK to post the list or not.
See I think that attitude could be applied to everyone you play with, assuming they aren't hostile antisocials (in which case don't play with them.) The thing about commander is that outside of a couple PREs it is basically a completely casual (nontourney definition in this instance) game that 3-4 people agree to play. So it is in everyone's best interest to make it somewhat fun for all.
I like the idea of playing a hated general and NOT playing it out as soon as possible. Play style and demeanor have as much to do with how much people hate on your deck as do deck contents and commander. Aggressive strategies (be they combo kill, attack more or board control) tend to alienate everyone unless there is a sense that the game isn't just about getting rid of the bad guy to enjoy the rest of it.
My decks tend to do very little aggressively though they can be quite reactive. I am not above countering, exiling, stealing or otherwise hosing a plan that is screwing everyone. And I am also not above punishing an aggressor for overstepping.
heh, that would be swell, although it might be bad for the size of my growing ego!
its been fun chatting with paul and kensiky as well as the other cc members this last 2 weeks, darn retail stinks though, im at work when everyone is online playing, oh well. We can still crush, and lsv will be high off his pt top 8! go go lsv and team cc.
Man just a few more days, after talking to some of the other members, you guys are in for some TREATS! so much content commin at ya from a lot of peoples.
also the limited resources podcast is all about the cc and some of its participants this week, you should go check it out, cause im in it lol.
There are some Commanders that I'll target right away. Omnath is one of them, along with Thada Adel, Zur, Uril, and Jhoira. But it seems like lately I'm running into new players that have one of these as a commander. I think without much experience they tend to gravitate to the more powerful commanders that are relatively easy to build a deck around.
If someone seems like a newer player I'll start a conversation with them and try to learn how long they've been playing. If they are new I'll welcome them to the format and explain the concept of commander hate. At that point everyone at the table usually chimes in with welcomes and advice. It makes for a very friendly game and the new player leaves even more excited about the format.
Thanks for the vids Jake! I really enjoyed watching.
I thought about starting to play block constructed in order to build up my card collection for standard. Is it possible to find a good SOM Block deck for about 100 bucks? That is my price limit at the moment.
You could do an article about Whiffy. He has definitely garnered enough attention to warrant a little more of an in depth look, especially after the CCC.
Regarding Upwelling, I knew that I was going to be facing some Omnath hate and consider it a political card. Basically telling everyone, "Hey, you can store up mana too!" and therefore deflecting some of the unwanted attention from me. I know it has the chance to backfire, but it's a budget deck and meant to play some stuff considered outside the box. I only played it twice, and it didn't hurt me either time. Vedalken Orrery is a suitable replacement in this deck, as is the Gemstone Array.
Omnath does deserve much of the hate thrown at him. He is a powerful Commander who can go nuts quickly. And while every game is different and you should always be re-evaluating your threats, sometimes things, players or cards just get on your nerves. Happens to the best of us.
Patry, don't let this article stop you from writing! I'm sure there are significant differences between the decks, and I know I wouldn't mind seeing a full powered take on the deck.
Wotc's primary concern is the number of draft firing. That's their source of income. While they do listen to other concerns, they are way down on the list of things to do. I mean leagues have been in development for years.
To put it simply, Magic was started as a Trading card game not a "play only" card name. While few people on this site are just collectors, I'm sure there are few people out there who hordes cards for their value collecting purposes much like stamps.
No matter what the drafters or classic players say, Wotc would alienate the other side of magic. Even if the players are ok with reprints, what about second hand market? There are plenty of people out there making their living on selling magic cards through second hand market.
I want to see reprints of the restricted list but in reality you will never see them in a draft.
That sort of kills the point too, since they partially retain their value by being playable.
forgot to put in a teaser, thanks mr Editor :)

Excellent videos. Makes me want to play UW again at least in block.

There are ~80 cards valued at $10 or more on MTGO Traders. This includes some duplicates like 2x dual lands (MED1/2 and ME4).

G1M4: the right play is not to disperse his Legionaire but your own Karn, and then cast it again and use it to exile the creature.

I occurs to me that they will also want to reprint the allied color fetchlands, since they don't make the Modern cutoff.

if you control a bayou sacrifice dirty forest
not a reprint. problem solved.
