I would love to hear what you have to say, your riddle here is a little bit confusing. Thanks for the comment but I don't know what to make of it. Is it a sleight at me or the commentors on pure? Are my responses not genuine enough?
Thanks for the comment Huck. I am a total novice at sealed pools and I didn't thing reg green was very good - which is not to say I am right. What do you think about it in draft?
I saw alot of budget decks at Overdrive! this week. Soul decks look like a solid metagame choice though. I also disagree that PRE's take players away from daily events. Many wouldn't join a daily event anyways because they are looking for a free option to just play there decks. And for me testing a deck in a PRE is atleast better than random tournement practice room games because I my opponent's are much less likely to disconnect.
@ scion, Is there any reason you arn't running more equipment in your deck as a tool box. I think regardless you still want to get Armor first but some other things could work if they disrupt your gameplan. If they are too situational mabey the SB would be the right place.
All of the swords seem pretty lackluster next to armor but give protection vs specific decks. And don't know how living weapon works rules whys with with the quest, otherwise batterskull would be great as a 1 of.
The price tables are comming along nicely and I enjoy all of your hard work so keep em comming. Ham had mentioned that he had the entire processes automated with something simular to what you're suggesting. You deffinately need the >$1.00 and it works pretty well.
I understand the levity of not having matched lands. I just could not find enough of the land I prefer and didn't want to spend the time looking for them when I got them, I will fix this grave mistake in the future since it seems to be your pet peeve :).
About Crypt Rats. After playing about 12 2 man queues I feel like the deck may need some crypt rats again. I'm going to write a follow up next week explaining the details why and for what match ups they will be good.
Thanks for the feedback :)
I'd be more inclined to comment and discuss if I didn't get the impression last several times that people don't actually read what I write, it's skim, find words that relate to already known concepts, assume nothing new is being said with new combinations of word order and selection beyond that, respond with previously arrived at response.
Crypt rats absence is an error in my opinion. As an avid 'deluxe red' player - echoing decay isn't enough to warrent a win, as a simple seal/l.dart/s.spray stops all questions. Additionally, and I know I'm a broken record when I copy/paste this...but ESPECIALLY a black mage should know the value of matching lands/permanents...so much so that I have, at-the-ready...a copy/paste message for the error above:
Hope you don’t mind a critique – but by playing with unmatching lands (different artists) and/or foil/nonfoil/diff.art permanents…you’re putting your opponent at a big advantage. Anytime you bounce a permanent, or play something different that what was revealed…it’s as if I get a free duress.
Being a linear stretegy that is as clear as a freshly cleaned window is difficult because your opponent is always on to your game plan. Mono R also has better tools than I have seen for a long time. Shrine of Burning Rage is ridic. The strength of this strategy is that it really punishes opponents with subpar decks, who make bad mulligan decisions, or get mana screwed (as evidenced by R3).
You really have to do pretty intricate math problems every turn to make sure that what you are doing is going to finish the game. That said, you know what it is like to be on the other side now.
This one was more interesting, but it is because I am a Mono R player at heart...
I have an interesting question that you can maybe answer for your next article (if the answer is interesting anyway). What significance is TugaChampion as your user name? Based on your real name you sound either Brazilian or Portuguese. I am not sure, but in Spanish "tortuga" means "tortoise". Is it Ninja Turtles? Just want to know the story...
It's a pretty close matchup with soul sisters. I have alot of hate, but as you said they have a fast clock. I doomed myself in game three by keeping a very scetchy hand. I tend to see hate and get gready and figured I would draw into a white source.
It's a good deck and I expect Next Level blue in some form to hold it's own in the meta. That said it's a very meta dependent deck, and needs to be tuned to beat specific decks that you expect to see. I'm also lookng for a few more cards for a slightly different version sported by LordErman.
With the sealed pool that you opened I would have built it with the red green aggro approach...nightbird clutches seems really good especially if you get the villagers down and then get them flipped.
I didn't think about the problem random inexpensive commons would pose. "Meaningful price increase" is harder to define than I thought.
In any case, if you find yourself with an hour free this weekend and you don't want to drop the bucks on Access, you can play with something like this free SQLite GUI plugin for Firefox: http://code.google.com/p/sqlite-manager/
I'm the designer and namer of the Quest for a Soul deck and I'm glad Diamonte was able to take first with it the week after I did. I got eliminated round 2 due to getting two not so great hands that I probably should have mulled versus Pelao28. I'm glad the deck is getting some coverage and when you start with quest in your hand you can often activate it on turn three which is many times gg because it requires an immediate answer such as path to exile. You should have posted the artifact deck you played, it looked pretty good.
Hey Pete, was curious if you had information readily availabale on which pre Invasion set has the the highest value including uncomons, im pretty sure that Med 4 is the set with the highest vale in rares, but for instance would mirage equal out with its high priced uncomons, ie the tutors? thanks if you can let me know, if its not a quick look up dont kill yourself. thanks.

Thanks for all the work you invest for the community!!! I would like to see you beeing part of the next community cup ;-)

Agreed with Delux on this one. As a storm player I said to myself, "sounds like a lot of fun" when I saw no crypt rats.
What kind of firewall?
Thank you for your PRE foray coverage.
Stay tuned for a fabled firing of a Modern DE!!

Good Job, man.
I want to make it to one of these.
I am going to bed early tonight to get up at 3:45 AM so I can sign up.
Modern is a fun format and through these events and what I am brewing up, I think we can show people that they have nothing to be afraid of...
Thanks, Blippy.
Been playing Delver in a lot of local shop pauper events and been looking for an idea of defeating it. I like this.
Glad to see this finally made it up. :D
Great article blippy and great job hosting!

Made me laugh, thanks!
Great post Blippy and thanks for hosting so many events!
I'm a big fan of this event, even if I haven't been able to attend in the past (or just forget). Please keep writing articles Blippy!
