• Full Value 7 -- Getting Your Money From Masques   13 years 30 weeks ago

    on value.
this set is only available to buy from stores for two weeks.
drafts and sealeds will continue to be available until the next classic only set. At this point there is no planned set so status qou? Masques is an evergreen format in the draft room.

esdit; the limited ques will either accept packs and tix for entry, or all tix with 4 tix to a pack, ie 14 tix to draft.

The payout for classic and legacy as well as possibly pauper is masques block. again it will remain the prize until the next classic set, or magic 2013, which ever comes first.

Its true that the release drafts and sealeds are slow so cards that are scarce will retain and gain value.

as for regular pauper singles, the price of these cards will directly be affected with how often drafts fire from now on. Ive done 5 events and have grabbed up about 20 of the chase pauper cards. The supply will decrease a little but not disapear.

Cool beans! I didn't venture that far. Though I know salvation has a huge membership, I've never actually been a member. I have often perused their libraries of posts on decks and other topics. Googling shows me this link http://mtgsalvation.com/1188-alterations-guide.html which seems like a great place to start.

  • Magical Crimbo Time   13 years 30 weeks ago

Glad I could jog the ole noggin' :p As you might be able to tell this is one of my favorite archetypes. I may have to tinker with it a bit more in Classic now that I have the core cards for it.

  • Rick's Picks: Join the Masquerade   13 years 30 weeks ago

That's a really good point. Negativity is a trap indeed.

  • Rick's Picks: Join the Masquerade   13 years 30 weeks ago

    Rock on brother.

Try not to get into this "these cards suck" mindset, in any format. That type of thinking is for losers. A card's value is strictly related to the context of the format it is in, and the other cards that are present in said given format.

  • Magical Crimbo Time   13 years 30 weeks ago

I had to fast forward after seeing your card modifications to mention the ongoing, humongously impressive card alteration thread at MTGSalvation.com
I can't draw if my life depend on it, but there are cool things to see. Also, regular holyday competitions.

  • Rick's Picks: Join the Masquerade   13 years 30 weeks ago

God forbid me to play Mercadia again. Seriously, I found myself wanting to mulligan to zero only to not see any of the cards in the draft. That was the only time i felt happy to get a mana flood...

But nice article. Just find some time for us to crush some 8-4 Innistrad drafts.

I built a Conspiracy / Rebels deck back in the day. Thanks for the reminder!

You're thinking of Santa Claus I think.

  • Drafting With a Hick - Sealed is a JOKEEEEEEE   13 years 30 weeks ago

Um watch the Bears? Watch them do what? They lost to Tim Tebow who apparently can walk on water and turn water to wine. Soon he will die for our sins, but only come back 3 days later a better pocket passer.

As a programmer, I'd be more than happy to create a utility to do just what you asked.
Wouldn't be too difficult to load in a CSV file, parse the data, and then present you with some txt (or other format) files.

Given how much I enjoy your Friday column, I'd consider it an honor to help you out.

If you're interested, shoot me an email.

Sounds like you've got a few people volunteering to be your intern, Pete. :)

  • State of the Program for December 9th   13 years 30 weeks ago

this all seems totally doable within Excel's advanced database functions. i didn't do it myself but used to work in rooms full of Excel drones & eg, posting a new set of data in every week was par for the course. the cards name their own entries in the dbms & should be postable as a virtual dataset etc. i'm not pretending to know how nor saying you should learn but it all seems straightforward on the surface (don't export the spreadsheet to cvs--instead you are importing each week's prices into a growing excel DBMS and at least for any standing entry the first time it's created, "seventh edition Pacifism" or whatever, no new entry can take its place, & you can check whether there are one or two items in any table.

no doubt it w3ould take as long to learn these advanced excel functions as to bone up on Access, etc., but theoretically it seems like it's what the program is meant to do

  • Drafting With a Hick - Sealed is a JOKEEEEEEE   13 years 30 weeks ago

I agree w/ Alternate, mostly. sealed sux. us drafters need to stick w/ the program and not that hoopla unless its a new premeir thing with prizes that jade our better judgement. dont watch those games though watch the BEARS, that way you can see tebow get a career ending injury. as far as the card u mentioned at the beginning of your draft, im notta fan. to many fliers in this set. red has alot of creatures with 2 or less toughness too. so does black, and thats what ive had w/ red in every draft. as for a new hope, you cant trust anyone with a star wars ref in thier name. GOOD NITE AMERICA!

  • Monoblack Pauper: Still Tier One   13 years 30 weeks ago

On the flashback cards, why not maindeck a couple of Boguka Bogs? Reduces your Tendrils and Corrupts slightly, but hey an uncounterable way to make sure those firebolts and other flashback thingies don't come back.

  • Drafting With a Hick - Sealed is a JOKEEEEEEE   13 years 30 weeks ago

I wouldn't listen to a new hope. He sounds overweight.

I'm glad you took advice, but my advice? Really? Come on, you are much smarter than that.

And DONT YOU DARE BITCH ABOUT YOUR LIMITED RANKING GO DOWN. Play MM, get passed money cards out of color, and try to build a winning deck. Although I have made a ton of tickets, my limited ranking has dropped 100 points thanks to MM.

And Sealed? What in your right mind made you play sealed? Sealed is for people who win 8-4's, win 2 matches, get 3 packs, get a card worth 2 tix and you play your next draft for free. Sealed sucks. It's insanely hard and comes down to 99% luck and 27% skill.

But if you are taking advice from people who post... I would start by dropping the kid and woman. They are clearly a distraction. Followed by moving to a new city, changing your name, and becoming a stock trader from Chicago living in Los Angeles. You meet a woman, turns out she owes money to the mob, you get into some cool car chases, and all along the way you post drafts vids on mtgotraders.

I mean if you are taking queues from your commenters.

But seriously, when you play make sure you have either football on (The Jets vs Bills or Giants vs Cowboys are good choices) and it makes Magic about 1,000,000x better since it can get boring as hell. Also play something other than Swiss. Swiss is so easy.

I find the most enjoyable time to play is on Saturday/Sunday morning, really early (hungover or not), because I get to watch the EPL.

And so you got a bad pool. Shit happens, then you get married, then you die. But no reason to flip out over it. That's why they made youtube. You can post videos and curse as much as you would like.

  • Giving Monored a try in Standard.   13 years 30 weeks ago

Thanks. Yeah that is one of the advantages of playing monored or other aggro deck. You can really punish them if something is wrong on the other side before they can recover from it.

I'm Portuguese and we call ourselves "Tugas" that's why I choose TugaChampion when I started playing some games online.

    Forever alone...

  • State of the Program for December 9th   13 years 30 weeks ago

not quite that easy - the list of prices changes almost every week as items are added. I have tired this on occasion, and it takes more time than it is worth.

  • State of the Program for December 9th   13 years 30 weeks ago

Looked at that. It would take some work. Maybe for a future week's article.

  • Conqueror & Commander, Vol. LXIX: Masques Block Overview   13 years 30 weeks ago

Nice recap of some of the things to look forward to in EDH with this release (and some things to dread). I, too, did not play this block when released (played Paper from Legends to Urza Block, started online with TSP) so most of these are new to me too. I did I thought of while reading that I wanted to mention:

Kyren Negotiations - seems like a good use for walls at EoOT.

Magistrate's Scepter - Proliferate...This scares me as I expect to see it used for inf turns. Alot. In green it would be too easy to do with Doubling Season and Contagion Engine.

Parallax Tide and Wave - I expect people will abuse this the same way as they do O-ring. With the Exile triggers on the stack, bounce it back to hand. The return hits first, returning nothing, then the exiles trigger making these into 4 CMC exile 4 targets (as long as you can sac or bounce this in response to your own exile triggers)

  • State of the Program for December 9th   13 years 30 weeks ago

If the 30k card long price list is in excel format or compatible, it would be quite easy to get price differences. Just sort alphabetically (or by set if possible), then copy the price values from the previous week. Set a simple formula that finds the difference between the new price and the old price, then sort that column. Viola! I think it should take about 5 minutes to do.

  • Drafting With a Hick - Sealed is a JOKEEEEEEE   13 years 30 weeks ago

if you took the time you could easily review my comments and your responses from the last 2 articles, but it's exactly my point: you don't actually take much of any time to read responses, which is fine, just don't recommend discussion in your comments section if you don't intend to participate.

We got a Sonicwall NSA 3500, pretty sweet compared to my last super old outdated Sonicwall PRO 2040.

    Thanks for asking :D
