I just registered today to comment. I've been following your videos for a while and reading this website in general. I was the dredge player in round 4. I am still pretty new to the deck and the classic format in general. It is great to see this game from the other side. :) It was my first time playing against the affinity version of shops so I wasn't quite sure what to expect.
I made a pretty bad misplay in game 1. I didn't notice the 2 Bazaars I had in the graveyard and so I panicked and went for a low strength troll (not like a single blocker can do much against affinity either.) I should of used the bloodghasts for the therapy, and dread return, bring back the sun titan and bring back a bazaar, mill for flame kiln and hope to of won that turn.
Glistener Elf for TNM, this is fantastic! Due to MM I've picked up my Invigorates and have been playing infect for pauper and peasant and love the deck.
Considering that the Elves vs Goblins event is this weekend, we really should have the special banned list up by now. Don't you think?
Off the top of my head I'd suggest Absolute Law, Perish, Tivadar of Thorn, and Tivadar's Crusade to start with. Blue Elemental Blast and Hydroblast could be a problem too. I think banning anything that says "red" or "goblin" from the elf deck and banning everything that says "green" or "elf" from the goblin deck should cover pretty much everything completely abusive.
As far as ebh goes, I'm so sick of all the sore losers there are on mtgo. All they have to do is "gg" and that's it, but no, some people think they have to win and when they don't there is a problem with their opponent because the problem couldn't be with them. So many sore losers, they also happen to be the bad players.
Very nice article, I'm a huge fan of Zombies and enjoyed the variations you presented. I have submitted an article around Zombies, hope it makes it through. I agree with you 100% on the Casual Room people. Most are nice but there are those.... I do the same thing, concede, block if warranted and move on.
Keep them coming and maybe I'll catch you on MTGO one of these nights.
In round 1 game 3, when you cast the revoker, hitting sol ring and had 1 mana floating, is there a reason you didn't cast the frogmite or am I missing something?
I built my very first deck around a card which happens to be also my very first Rare card of Magic: Maro! I absolutely don't remember how the deck looked like but I do remember very well that I spent quite a lot of time thinking about the card, looking at it, talking to people at the game shop and trying to make something out of it. Needless to say I failed horribly (Wall of Blossoms was like 4 sets away at that point), but it still was fun.
Then I remember trading some stuff for Bazaar of Wonders mainly because of the art, and tried making a deck with it. That attempt failed also but that card IS the card that led me to Blue and thus to those Control decks I still love playing.
ok ur alive after the death thing. great now draft the ISD so i can do the my thing and calculate,
its hard somtimes but i got what it takes!
gimmie ISD! DRAFT isd!
gimmie gimmie gimmie
u r a fliteless bird. i get it. draft ISD. y dont u once and then say its fun? now i didnt read ur thing but i expect isd draft next time. where is the stuff?
Actually African slaves used to call Portugue people Tugas as an insult. I'm not really sure when but probably like 10-8 years ago we started calling ourselves Tugas. I think the term started because instead of calling us "Portugueses" (Portuguese) they changed it to "Portugas" and after a while it became just "Tugas".
In Portuguese we sometimes do that change when talking (obviously those terms aren't correct). For exemple sometimes we say "Brasucas" instead of "Brasileiros" (Brazilian).
This is harder to explain in another language because it's really something in our language that we do sometimes. I hope this is clear enough.
Being a product of the US Public Education system, my knowledge of Portugal is pretty limited. Falo um pouco de Português, pero solamente porque yo hablo español...
Other than that, I would like to know the significance of 'Tuga'...forgive my ignorance.
tru what they said, neg kills me sometimes and i forget i have grasp of phantoms to flashback... anyway, i like isd way to much to draft this stuff (and its not redeemable) but if i did i noticed alot of LD. has anyone used this that u all know of like as a dek style? i would just cuz ld makes people always quit so logic says ld for keeps right? i would make a puper ld dek but i dont want 2012, i want isd! draft more isd rick, i will watch them all and enjoy all the while. GOOD NITE AMERICA!
Hey man, I didn't read all the comments but this was 4 pack Sealed and not an actual Sealed event which is 6 packs and min 40 cards. 4 packs sealed is more like a "fun" format and not anything you're going to run across in real life, where 6 pack Sealed is a PTQ format in RL. For example, this PTQ season is Sealed (6 packs). I did read someone comment that Sealed is 99% luck and while opening bombs is good and helps you win games for sure, the most important part of Sealed is building the right deck. And after that, much like Draft, play skill seperates great players from just good players. As someone who only plays Limited format tournaments, it really bothers me when people complain that Sealed is "all about luck". I think Jon Finkel would disagree with those comments, seeing as how he came out of "retirement" to be inducted into the HoF and then went on to win the Limited PT (Sealed/T8 draft) in Kuala Lupur in 2008. And here locally in South Jersey, 2 pros went on to win the last 2 Sealed/T8 Draft PTQ's I was at. Edison NJ 3 weeks ago was Gerard Fabiano and just this past Saturday in Philly was Chris Lachmann of Sliver Kids fame with his buddy Jacob Van Lunen. Those 2 won PT San Diego in 07 and it was 2HG Limited. I could go on and on with examples all night. At any rate, I'll stop ranting :P Keep playing and I highly recommend playing in the Release events on MTGO as they are amazing EV and really pretty easy to free roll for a long time. I rolled 1 event into 19 Sealed events and about a half dozen drafts before the wave died. A record of 2-2 gets you 3 packs, 3-1 gets you 8 and 4-0 gets 12 or 13. I sell the packs to a bot (usually 8 packs got me around 28 tix) along with any sweet rares and let the good times roll. I did pretty well in the 8-4's for a few weeks but sadly it only takes 2 or 3 draft of not making the finals to kill the freeroll. :( and I don't want to invest anymore cash in MTGO till the next Release event cause I play a ton in RL. OK, now I'll actually stop. GL man and keep playing!
Yeah I did the same but for all staples I knew I'd want. I left a few things like High Market alone as it is not even close to being better than the other 2 creature sac lands.
as a Pauper (almost only) player, I spent about 12 tix on EVERY SINGLE common I may/maynot need..entire rebel package, 'rather than' casting costs etc.., Seemed much more logical than those sealed tourneys.
I sold a foil Submerge to a classic player. My price was 11 Tix, but I gave it to him for 10 Tix because he promised to use it to beat Whiffy Penguin. Also my Masques commons are selling like hotcakes to Pauper players, even though they haven't showed up in bulk in the Pauper DE's yet, and the Rares are being bought up by 100 card singleton players.
Rushwood Elemental and Skyshroud Poacher work really well in 100 card singleton. Rushwood Elemental is a badass card since with elves, you can get him out on turn 3 and he is a 4/4 trampler that get's larger each turn, and Skyshroud Poacher is pay 3, get any elf permanent from your deck and puts it on the battlefield.
Also I played a draft with an insane combo.
Windscouter. 3/3 flyer for 4 mana that returns to your hand if it attacks or blocks at end of combat, and Puffer Extract, which gives a creature X/X and then destroys it at the end of the next end step. It's basically attack, pump, return to hand, repeat.
And I am so happy after playing so much ISD that I can play U/W Control like in the old days. War Tax is just insane. It destroy's your opponents attackers, and then I get in there with flyers.
But I haven't opened the foil Rishidan Port yet. I thought I would get it, but so far all I have opened in terms of land is Dust Bowl which I could only sell for 5.

First deck ever: Mono black Lord of the Pit + Breeding Pit "COMBO". Will-o-the-Wisp to stop your opponent...

Dan, aka Wovoka.
i missed the frogmite play, as for isd drafts, there is a ton of them on the interwebs, whats the value of watching me suck at one?
In round 1 game 3, when you cast the revoker, hitting sol ring and had 1 mana floating, is there a reason you didn't cast the frogmite or am I missing something?

Seems 100% clear. Idiomatic derivations are intriguing in any language, particular in regards to names.

This is so true. Good call Greyes.
Nice job, Rick!!

Thanks guys :) Lord Erman is next up by the way. :D
I think your opponent may have figured out a glitch with crooked scales and calling tails.
I love the classical music that wafts in from the background in whiffy's videos.
Solid article, content-heavy. :)
Wonderfully done Paul - thanks for all the work :)
