May be it is better to learn lesson not to keep 6 landers.
But it is your choise to hope for "randomness"

See you in the Final for the rematch :D

  • Pauper - Stompy   13 years 31 weeks ago

Yeah, it's always a player and has a chance in any metagame...

I had a reader pay my entry fee to enter a DE 4 round with the list as is...(agreeing to split winnings) - he wanted to see if it could go in 'as is' and dominate... I went 3-0 and then had a work-related emergency leaving me to be a 'no-show' round 4.
Stompy always has a chance...pretty rogue too, as everyone goes the poison route when forests are at play. Stompy just has SO MANY threats - and the curve is insanely low. I have a funny tendency to always 2-1 my wins, if you like a very thoughtful, strategic combat game...look no further :)

Nice flow to the conversation guys.
Oath is a nice meta call.
I feel the best SnapDelver version, to not be a dog in an Oath match-up, is the 8 creature version. As sweet a beat stick as Tarmogofy is, it is a chink in the armor vrs Oath(obviously better in other match-ups~). The beefed up counter package in xkorpio's deck list seems strong. However, I do like a Trygons and I like 10 creatures. Maybe there is room for Trygons in xkorpio's deck. =)

I always start out in Swiss. I've been playing 4-3-2-2's this week, and actually finding the Swiss more challenging.

You know it's funny Andy, after looking over your list, I thought I was a dog in the matchup too. Shops will just stick it to ya sometimes, I suppose.

    Nice coverage, guys.

    :D

I watched draft #7 and I think you're doing great! Nice deck and especially nice Mountain streaks. You seem to draw them like a champ! ;-D Seriously, I'll be watching the rest in a few days, maybe I'll drop another comment or two. Take care and keep'em coming! :-)

  • View at Your Own Risk: Innistrad Draft 3   13 years 32 weeks ago

I like the way you do your drafts with the concise editing and the informational pop-ups. One question, was this draft an 8-4 or another type?

Bad luck on the misplay, I'm still in phase one myself.

Thanks to Battlefield 3 I was screwed up on the controls and speed, and therefor my K/D is only 2.37. And I am only level 1 prestige. But the ACR 6.8 is the new best gun ever.

And get an Osprey Gunner. It's f-ing insane.

Hey glad to see your back man.

  • Penguin TV - Look ma, no FoW's!   13 years 32 weeks ago

i assume your talking about rd 4 g1? the one where i went t2 chalice of the void for 1 t3 draw goblin welder? I couldnt play welder cause it would have been auto counterspelled.

as for the worker staff lock, i never had to go through the motions in tp or de play. and i havent practised it. i would guess it would take me at least 10 mins the first time, could probably shave it down, but it depends on what you draw too, and in what order.

  • Portcullis special   13 years 32 weeks ago

It gave me an awesome idea for a Commander deck. Will have to run Black to have any hope of it working, but man that's gonna be some fun :-D

And all the other fun cards you mention is gonna end up costing me a pretty penny now :-S Why I aughta...

  • Penguin TV - Look ma, no FoW's!   13 years 32 weeks ago

My last event (I think) I comboed from behind on board, it took me about 6-8 minutes, because I had to get around a Thrun and Maze of Ith.

  • Rogue Play - From Casual Room to FNM, Part II   13 years 32 weeks ago

Thanks everybody for the comments. The only motivation I need to keep writing these "from completely casual to cutthroat serious" articles, is to know that you like them and read them! So thanks again for the comments and for reading.

Oh and yes, that "13 lands in the first 14 cards" accident(!) was increadible, and I don't think it will happen again... as a matter of fact, I really do hope that it won't happen again!

    LE

  • Portcullis special   13 years 32 weeks ago

Yeah that was obvious. I meant that the Casual Room does not really discriminate between serious and fun particularly in the older formats. You bring portcullis you may find people annoyed by it or you might find decks you can't cope with.

  • Penguin TV - Look ma, no FoW's!   13 years 32 weeks ago

One question - in game 4 with Welder Shops, you should have dropped the Welder much earlier. A couple reasons

early on, welder could have been a Wasteland, when you were being hit with the Factory. Welder could have turned that factory into a Sol Ring.

Later, when he dropped Crucible, you had to turn that into a Sol Ring. All he had to do was return the use the Wasteland on your Academy during his first main phase, then activate his Factories during beginnning of combat, after the Academy mana was gone, so you could not tap the factories with the Staves of Domination. Fortunately, he missed it.

One question - how long does it take for you to win once you have infinite staff mana? How long in clock time, I mean? (I've gone off with Welders in the paper world, but never online.)

BTW - welcome back Whiffy / PTV, we missed you.

  • Penguin TV - Look ma, no FoW's!   13 years 32 weeks ago

    Welcome back!

I'm curious about the Lightning Bolts, it's a direction I hadn't considered trying, but seems viable. I am forever hassled by Chalices, but I just feel the need to play them against Oath.

Always open to suggestions though, there are so many cards that can make a significant impact, it's hard to find the best 75.

  • Portcullis special   13 years 32 weeks ago

Hmm! I'm so used to writing casual-only articles that sometimes I forget to mention it.

Everyone, my Portcullis and Drake ideas are all meant for the casual room.

  • Flashback Draft: Shadowmoor Block Draft #1   13 years 32 weeks ago

Did you know that Morselhoarder + Sinking Feeling + a Power of Fire or a Presence of Gond is an auto win? just saying

  • Rogue Play - From Casual Room to FNM, Part II   13 years 32 weeks ago

Since, I've been drafting a lot, and trying to get cards in order to build competitive decks, I forget how much fun it is to brew casual decks (strong, weak, anything in between). Your article is a great reminder of why it's so much fun. Great job!
