I gave Trinket Mage a mention in the ETB portion, but at the time I was writing this I couldn't find an example of a Trinket Mage list that put up recent results. One thing I do really enjoy about the Trinket Control lists is the tendency to also include Crypt Rats, which remains awesome.
Wasn't thinking when I wrote that. I haven't played Blue in a few months. Disdainful Stroke is the correct analogy, and he already made it in that article.
My wife gets particularly annoyed and keeps asking "What did you say?" Then I have to scrap the recording. An hour later she forgets and does the same thing. lol
When I listened to it back it sounded very Rhode Island "Com Little Buddy". I am from Southern Mass right near Rhode Island. Even I was thrown off by my accent in that vid. I'm usually much more conscious about using my CNN voice.
Couldn't be bothered to rerecord. Was tired. Yes, tons for French Canadians around these parts. Crazy Cannucks.
I want to start recording some games for an article.II've experimented a little, but haven't got far.
I have to play magic late at night whrn everyone is asleep, so I'm wary of waking people up by appearing to talk to myself while doing commentary
Are you from Rhode Island? I had a feeling you might be from New England, because of your last name. I'm from Vermont, and there are a lot of people with French last names like yours.
This card is not something I'm excited about but happy it's been made. It adds to the cycle of 1U conditional counterspells, alongside Essence Scatter, Negate, Disdainful Stroke.
It's at least another option. Stubborn Denial is probably better for countering turn 3 Rhino/Jeskai Ascendancy/Sidisi. It hits all the other early plays that tap out as well. It's not perfect either. Time will tell. I think you're right though. For The current Standard it's probably too narrow. Plus Fate Reforged's multi color twist is mainly in the abilities they said, with much fewer gold cards.
I built a U/R Control deck, because it seemed closer to my Delver list than the mono blue versions. I only had to spend a ticket and leftover credit to finsh it too.
Temur Delver seems pretty awesome. Even if Treasure Cruise gets banned, UR Delver was picking up wins before Khans launched. Might be rough if Abzan Pod remains trendy, though.
Spot on Joe, when an type of deck goes forgotten it can usually come back and surprise everyone at a certain tourney but it would be a bad choice for a week in and week out deck. (Like pillowfort) Reid Duke did that with Bogles at last years worlds and it took him to the finals.
I love the feeling of winning with my own creation or my own unique take on another deck. To make a rogue deck work you have to do more than slap your favorite cards together. You have to know up front how that deck plans to attack the decks you're gonna face and how you expect to win.
As for the deckbuilding itself, I'm a big believer in templating. Using previous successful deck lists to help you refine the deck you are working on is a tried and true concept (Mike Flores has written about it several times).
Look back on decks you've had success with in the past. See what worked and try to build on that in the future. I've got a lot of my old deck lists that I had success with and every time a new set drops I check to see if any of them are viable concepts again: Troll Patrol, The Dog of Death, Strange Oil, Spiders with Guns, Life for Cards, Smackdown Hotel. Looking back at old decklists really can be a trip down memory lane.
Hah! Speak for yourself Joe. Mine were rarely over 70...
Also until you've seen Ali From Cairo take down a Grand Melee table at the hands of (future) PT Hall of Famer Steve OMS you haven't seen that card properly in action. IMHO of course. :p
I use to play and still wants to play Standard Pauper but the timing just doesn't suit my real life time. Still I try to tinker with different brews of standard pauper from time to time. I hope someday Wizards will give the players of Standard pauper a chance to have their own competition even with only a minimal prize structure and let them have that deserve qp's to enter MOCS. Keep up the good work Mr. Gwyned.

I'm going back to bed.

Card at the top of the article. You're a good man, Pete.
Stubborn Denial can't counter creature spells. I guess you mean Stubborn Denial.
Cool spoiler Pete. Neutralizing Blast seems very promising card for the Modern format
No love for UB Trinket Control? It's my favorite UB Control list for Pauper.

sweetness!
nice work man. these previews are cool.

Siege Rhino is a tough card to deal with. I thought of a few ways to try to deal with it, but I'm not sure if they are too narrow or not.
The big thing is to stop them from sticking a birthing pod if at all possible.
Siege Rhino is a lot less scary when you can remand or deprive it.

One of my favorite Magic memories was hearing opponents explain to their pals: "I got beat by a bunch of spiders."
That's one of my favorite feelings as well Fred. Making a deck personal and giving it a great name really increases the satisfaction when you win.

And Daze would keep it from being a "cheap" deck. :)

Maybe I could start by taking all the rares and uncommon cards out of my delver deck...
Even with mana burn, and not dying until the end of phase, I don't think that Mirror Universe would be a contender in today's Magic scene.
I also thought Ali from Cairo was the nut, we didn't play much removal when we first played, with our 100-card decks.

"...funny, when I was a kid, I thought this card was so broken!" It was, then they fixed it. :/
