I love this card. LOVE IT, for an uncommon. I'm a big fan of "enters the battlefield" effects. I love Flicker effects, reanimation like Mortuary + Call of the Wild/Lurking Predators, and even wacky stuff like Proteus Staff. I love Solemn Simulacrum. I like creatures that are really worth their mana cost. This card goes great in mono green with Phosphorescent feast/priamlcrux. It has numerous uses and I look forward to buying my playset.

Crypt Rats was only valuable because of Pauper, which now has Pestilence. So it'll crash...right?

  • Back to the drawing board: Standard Allies   15 years 12 weeks ago

Ondu clerics come in against other aggro strategies and burn.

So against White Wheenie, vampires and RDW.

I'm also working on a follow up. I switched colors and I also would like to take the opportunity to congratulate Cedric Philips for being the last one who published a Naya allies article. I hope you've enjoyed reading ours. Let's see if the switch will catch up with the SCG xerox machines.

Commander is a constructed format, and it will be quite playable there :) This guy + Kiki-Jiki in my Intet deck will be awesome!

  • Rise of the Eldrazi: We've got Wurms!   15 years 12 weeks ago

i saw somewhere that eldrazi limited will feel like a glacier after zendikar limited...

  • Rise of the Eldrazi: We've got Wurms!   15 years 12 weeks ago

It has never been hard to reach 7 mana assuming your opponent does nothing. It might be a little hard to reach it currently if your opponent is slamming you for 15 on turn 4, which is par for the course in standard. It is a super timmy card and has 'cheat me into play' written all over it.

My other thought was that if this is an indication of what most of Rise is like then the format may be slow enough to make it viable.

  • Rise of the Eldrazi: We've got Wurms!   15 years 12 weeks ago

ehh i was more arguing that seven is not hard to reach in standard right now...i could have used the same example with terastodon

  • Rise of the Eldrazi: We've got Wurms!   15 years 12 weeks ago

Actually you implied it was good by arguing with my statement that it isn't.

  • Rise of the Eldrazi: We've got Wurms!   15 years 12 weeks ago

oh there is no denying that over half of your non land would have to be dedicated solely to ramp effects. Though i never said it was good, just possible.

  • State of the Program - April 2nd 2010   15 years 12 weeks ago

yeah maybe an april fools joke.. I was wondering why anyone would care about the price of a Hand of Justice.

  • Rise of the Eldrazi: We've got Wurms!   15 years 12 weeks ago

awesome limited card. unless i'm mistaken about RotE, unplayable constructed card.

  • Rise of the Eldrazi: We've got Wurms!   15 years 12 weeks ago

Counterpoint: To make that series of play with your average draw, you need 55% of your deck (or more since harrow/rampant growth slightly reduce your odds of drawing land on later turns)... 7 mana sources from 12-13 total cards seen, assuming an opponent doesn't kill any of your creature based mana sources. A 7/7 trampler that has a "meh" CITP effect for its size and has as its only protection drawing a single card if the removal used on it isn't exile (50% of the time that draw will just get you more mana) just isn't that threatening.

  • Rise of the Eldrazi: We've got Wurms!   15 years 12 weeks ago

well in monogreen 7 shouldnt be too hard... I could see it easily coming out on turn 5
    t1: Forest Llanowar
    t2: Forest, Harrow, growth
    t3: Arbor Elf, Archdruid
t4: Now you have 9 mana even missing your 3rd and 4th turn drops.. 4 forests, 1 from llanowar, 1 from arbor elf and 3 from the archdruid....

  • State of the Program - April 2nd 2010   15 years 12 weeks ago

it may be that half the links on the cards in the dropped chart dont lead to anything but traders homepage....ex thunder spirit, ith-bith?, hand of justice, coffin, archaeologist, baron sengir, serendib, and preacher...maybe its a late april fool's joke?

  • State of the Program - April 2nd 2010   15 years 12 weeks ago

I'm guessing all the boosters are valued at 3.9 or whatever they cost in the store? If that's the case then the numbers arnt really accurate since a draft set of Alara block can be bought for 9 while Zen 11. Even though Ala went up recently because its nix tix for it next week.

  • State of the Program - April 2nd 2010   15 years 12 weeks ago

I somewhat agree on that - it's not as if "Anonymous" bought up evangels the moment they came out, and kept the strangehold on the card - there was plenty of time to get it at the lower price, even AFTER his grab for them was common knowledge and the card spiked and then dipped (as is evidenced by a second rise just now, when the actual deck is in place).

Omnath's mana storing may indeed prove influential when Eldrazi hit. Or Anonymous's prediction could be a bombo. Time will tell. Regardless, 100-200 copies is still reasonably negligible in the big scheme of things.

Summoning Trap looks like another one where this price-rising speculation is taking place - MTGOTraders dropped from about 20 of them to the current 5, and most bots went from 0.1-0.15 to 0.5. Again, could prove handy with RoE's release (although it sidesteps the "casting" trigger), and people might be kicking themselves for not grabbing it at 0.5. There's just no way to tell.

And I won't even touch on Eye of Ugin as far as speculation goes.

  • Rise of the Eldrazi: We've got Wurms!   15 years 12 weeks ago

Seems to me 7 is a huge cost for competitive play but if so then alot of Eldrazi is up there too so maybe standard will finally be slow enough to enjoy. Then again this creature with its life gain and body may just be a super timmy card.

  • State of the Program - April 2nd 2010   15 years 12 weeks ago

What do you mean 8 out of 10 cards that fell aren't available online? I see Oath, Mox D, Dark Depths, and a bunch of Masters Edition cards with negative percentages. The only new one I see is Voltaic Key. Am I reading the charts wrong?

  • Deck Divination #10: Sensing the Game's Flow   15 years 12 weeks ago

Yeah, I sort of TLDR'd the first part of the article but liked reading the rest. UW Mill is a nice fun archetype in Pauper. Your list is definitely one of the better ones that I've seen.

I would recommend trying out Kor Skyfisher instead of the Shieldmate however. The Skyfisher is a much stronger creature especially due to flying, and though it costs more mana overall, bouncing a Cleric / Excavator and replaying it has the same effect on your board as the Shieldmate. I would think that it would fit wonderfully here.

    Epic family guy quote.

    "Tarmogoyf eat your heart out"

    Hahahahaha.. wait, were you serious?

  • Rise of the Eldrazi: We've got Wurms!   15 years 12 weeks ago

Man, they are sure getting lazy with the flavor text these days. That flavor would be boring in any set, but in Rise of the Eldrazi this thing isn't even the biggest uncommon, much less biggest creature.

As for the actual card... intriguing, sure seem like we get an awful lot for that one green mana upgrade from a Craw Wurm. Is it enough to actually see constructed play. My brain says no, but my bladder has a sneaking suspicion.

  • Rise of the Eldrazi: We've got Wurms!   15 years 12 weeks ago

see at first i just read the abilities and figured meh its a rare and not necessarily one I would decide to buy a playset of.
Then josh wrote it was an uncommon, so i figured that he was still hungover from las vegas.
Then I checked the card again...OMG it is an uncommon!!! WTF!?! Definitely buying a playset.
7 mana cant be that tough not with elves, harrow, rampant, and KHE

  • State of the Program - April 2nd 2010   15 years 12 weeks ago

Yeah, cards should not be listed in the price change section until they've been out for two weeks.

  • Rise of the Eldrazi: We've got Wurms!   15 years 12 weeks ago

... I like the idea of Splinter Twin, and the ability to repeat ETB effects on creatures.
There might even be more 'blink' creature effects, considering that
