    Great article and great job

I'm a huge fan of legacy and I play it on MTGPaper long, long ago. I started playing high tide/reset combo and goblins with some good results and then, 1 year ago I tried land.deck getting great results (I think the format misses this deck-MTGO speaking, of corse).
I'm gathering some tixs to build LEDless dredge because it's cheaper, though, I'm looking forward one of your next articles focusing on this deck.

while i don't play legacy, i enjoyed this article. the information presented was helpful.

the biggest problem with shard's tournament that i can tell, from an outsider's point of view, is that it is entirely unclear what is and is not permitted in these tournaments.

for that reason, i will probably not join this particular PRE without some clearer guidelines as to what are the restrictions for the tournaments. it seems like every other tournament or so, there is always an issue arising regarding person X's deck for whatever the reason may be.

furthermore, it degenerates into a long discussion where nothing ever gets resolved. i propose you establish some set rules as to what cards are banned in what format and/or what decks are banned in what format. perhaps a website dedicated to this.

that is just my suggestion if you would like to increase participation in your tournament. on the other hand, if you do not care about this and the players that are currently playing are content with the way things are... nevermind.

  • One Double O #34 - Basic lands   15 years 3 weeks ago

panoramas do not come close to comparing with sac-lands and are not worth thinking about "imho"

    1. as stated, they only get basic land compared to getting duals or rav-duals with sac-lands.
    2. you need to pay one mana to activate the panoramas.

that being said, on the other hand:

    1. you don't lose a life.

i disagree with you saying that you got unlucky in rd1. in my experiences of playing jund, i don't think i'd play the lands that you did (in your order) nor cast the spells (in your order). you played the match much too defensively and eventually you'll fall behind and lose. personally, i think you should have been the aggressor. e.g., casting putrid leech on turn 2 in g1 on the play. you need to set the pace of the match instead of being reactive in the jund mirror if you can help it. otherwise, playing reactively you will just eventually lose due to cascade. note: i can't say that you would have won by casting a bloodbraid before ruinblaster or vice versa since cards drawn change due to cascade. but definitely, i don't think it's right to just say, i lost because i got unlucky.

Seeing as how opp tapped only white source to cast Venge, Path isn't a possibility - you definitely want to be stronger against Bolt and both iterations would have the same result: victory.

In general, wouldn't it be better to put the peak's power boost on a smaller creature so 1 removal spell like Path to Exile couldn't stop as much damage.

    1. Summons for 1 (1/1 1/1)
    2. Peaks a on Summons (3/1 1/1)
    3. Tap all lands, Summons for 4 (4/4 4/4 3/1 1/1 Floating RR)
    4. Bushwacker kicked (5/4 5/4 4/1 2/1 2/1)

It's the same result, but slightly stronger against a Path to Exile. Of course there are times when you want to be stronger against a Lightning Bolt.

  • The Burning Kiln   15 years 3 weeks ago

The fireballs are relatively meaningless and some people just enjoy giving very harsh grades. Also everyone has their own interpretation of what each point means. Just accept that 4/5 is still pretty good.

  • State of the Program - May 28th 2010   15 years 3 weeks ago

Optimal Play on that last game last turn.
(At least if I didn't make any mistakes :D)

    1. Summons for 4 (4/4 4/4 RRR floating)
    2. Peeks a summon ( 6/4 4/4 RRR)
    3. Summons for 1 ( 6/4 4/4 1/1 1/1 RR)
    4. Bushwacker kicked (7/4 5/4 2/1 2/1 2/1)

18 Damage total and the only legal out is fog which I'd bet he isn't playing :P

    Thanks for the article

Oh and thanks doc (Sarcasm) - WTF does someone have to do to get a 5 star rating from you? Your my only 4 star - did you not like something? :)

  • The Burning Kiln   15 years 3 weeks ago

Lets also rationalize "THE REMOVAL" if it's teachings style...no loss, as it would have targeted a spark ele and/or K.Marauders as well, on the upside, you now have a "I WIN" option if they dont' have it or misplay...AND this is a great matchup. VS Other red/goblins - better draw the fire to the beast than you, and you still keep coming, like above...if they STILL don't have it, they're dead. Those are pretty valid/strong words...read them slowly, "THEY'RE DEAD."

A point you guys are missing, is that white has a lot of hate/life - and KILN FIEND is the balance. Burn had a dice roll vs the field due to random riftwatchers/life tricks in months past...I don't know how many more vids I need to post of this deck thrashing decks that gain 10+ life GAME ONE! On paper, burn should totally lose, but with this one (4 actually)creature, your back in it against what has to statistically be your very worst matchup. How is this a bad thing?! The average this thing attacks for is 7, average, most games on memory it's a 10/2 if not higher.

You guys say, "Oh...they might kill our beast." Do you know how often removal happens?!?!? ALL THE DAMN TIME...to and by every deck...so so what. If it lives you win, if it dies...you burn and usually still win. Were not dumping spells on its back, were doubling the effiency of the spells and forcing the opponent to deal with it, while being hit in the eyes with acid every turn.

Now, what's fun, is to side OUT the fiend and bring in more burn against the decks you already smash up :)

  • The Burning Kiln   15 years 3 weeks ago

Try usually doing 10 if it lives - you guys need to try it and not analyze it

  • The Burning Kiln   15 years 3 weeks ago

NM....I'm back to singing the praises of KF. Your point is valid...but it simply is worth the risk with consistant turn 3 kills. If it dies, so what, you playing burn. A creature that adds THAT MUCH to the game, singlehandedly beats some decks like Storm/rogue -well, it'd be stupid to not play with. Teachings is probably burns best matchup, so they kill a creature game one...boo hoo, if they don't they're dead, if they do, they're still dead and you side it out for even more nastiness

  • Two man Extravaganza   15 years 3 weeks ago

being the one who was looking for an article like this I have to say you did a great job, told me exactly what i wanted to know

  • Vengevine Jund daily #1   15 years 3 weeks ago

In the round 2 Jund mirror you held a land as the last card in your hand when you had 5 in play. What happens if he just casts Blightning and you topdeck Broodmate?

  • The Burning Kiln   15 years 3 weeks ago

Good article! I haven't seen something written on Burn for a long time.

When ROE came out I too tried Kiln for Burn, but just as Fragoel said, all your opponent's dead removal cards now have a target which wastes one of the deck's strongest advantages. If it's not doing any damage more often than it's doing 6+ damage, it's not worth it. I realized that after some of games and then axed it from the maindeck. If you hop over to the thread in PDCforums, people have been discussing it as a sideboard option for when the opponent boards out their removal.

  • Tribal Apocalypse: Return of Samuel L. Jackson   15 years 3 weeks ago

Exhibition map is a godsend to brown decks, putting together either the Urzatron or cloudpost critical mass in record time and/or fetching the Crystal Quarries. Either by land ramp or by fist, I was getting a T4 or T5 Eldrazi practically every game, and that was just the first of many until the game was over in a welter of annihilated permanents or everything getting dusted or legacied. T4 Emrakul is an autowin. The only match I lost was to the deck running 5 'geddons: attack the lands or outrace the tron/post buildup and stop the deck. Eldazi via Fist is a really, really fast and deadly deck.

  • Vengevine Jund daily #1   15 years 3 weeks ago

I'm just a casual observer of the format, but looking over that decklist, can it really be using Vengevine's ability reliably? There's bloodbraid cascade into it but otherwise that creature count is fairly low isn't it?
