• On Rise of the Eldrazi Limited   15 years 3 weeks ago

The article is well written, but the formatting destroys all the fun.
Especially those card pictures disrupt the flow of reading.

But still, a good article, even though i gave up on limited.

  • Pauper to the People- Exhuming in Pauper   15 years 3 weeks ago

I have been working on a version of this deck myself recently focused more on card control that is only B.

Dark and Cabal ritual for mana accel
Ghastly Demise for some black removal
Dragon enchant - R and G version for haste and trample (trample is to deal with goblins or any of the various eldrazi/other token generators)
Last Rites - I used to run delirium skeins but this is superior than that in every way.
    Abom/Eldrazi 8/8 are my 2 exhume targets.
Organ Grinder: Any of my cards in the GY other than my creatures are useless to me, so i organ grin dthem away. plus it can't be negated with CoP.
Rotting Rats is great for obvious reasons.
    Duress/Distress.
currently my deck is mono black, but if ht opponent counters or removes my early exhumed creature, i'm pretty much dead. Been thinking of splashing U for probe, some enchant/instant thta gives my creature shroud (and maybe unblockable? a few come to mind) or other good draw/discards like Mental note or the draw 2/discard 2.

Overall, it plays almost like a straigh discard deck that tries to buy time to get the combo out, or on good draws just dumps it super early. Works better than expected against MUC or storm thanks to hand disruption, but aggro decks just destroy me unless i can hit a very early exhume. been experimenting greatly with the sb, switching out the hand disruption for all osrts of mass removal from crypt rats to nausea...

  • Pauper Times #7 - Urza's Saga Analysis   15 years 3 weeks ago

Fett, you are missing something. I'm guessing your solution involves the following:

Bounce the skyfisher - Splice the unblockable onto the Errant (return Pestermite)
Play land - turn the turtle into a 4/1
Veil the turtle, swing for 8.
EXCEPT the turtle has shroud so you can't veil it.

AHH finally got it...I knew you had to use the exile/blink trick to permanently remove the creature but it took me far longer than necessary to figure out how to actually do it. Veiling the Petrahydrox is a nice touch too, but quickly apparent when u realize u can't veil th turtle. Also very nice on having to daze yourself for the landfall, good puzzle setup.

Definitely not an easy puzzle, though it wasn't overly hard either. I liked it; would rate it about a 6.5/10 in terms of difficulty

Looks like 4*Crystal Quarry is missing from the decklist.

  • Tribal Apocalypse: Return of Samuel L. Jackson   15 years 3 weeks ago

Sometimes you get paired up. It happens.

  • The Burning Kiln   15 years 3 weeks ago

additionally, reckless charge is a 'win more' card, if you made it more creatures it would justify it, but then you'd be taking the wind out of the fiends sails...thus it's not included.

  • The Burning Kiln   15 years 3 weeks ago

yes, you'll see those in the "Valid inclusions" area above. Manamorphous is extremely expensive at 2, no joke. I played it in only 4 games, and when it gets countered, it's devestating, AND nets you nothing. Needle drop does the job, AND damage, I'm not even playing needle anymore either...need topdeck damage, opp at 3 life, you need something, you DO NOT WANT TO DRAW A NEEDLE/Manamorpous...death.

  • Tribal Apocalypse: Return of Samuel L. Jackson   15 years 3 weeks ago

Exhibition Map? It sounds like something that can be useful in Las Vegas. :-)

Anyway, the dragon deck mentioned by StealthBadger was mine (thanks Stealth, glad you liked it!), and it was fun but got a little unlucky with a first match against AJ's Eldrazi awesomeness (it still managed to win 1 game against him though!), and third one against Stealth's experienced snakes. Maybe I should try that again.

But I wonder how was that I played against the 3-0 winner in my last match, when I was 1-1?

  • The Burning Kiln   15 years 3 weeks ago

Maybe reckless charge's ? +3/+0 haste twice and pumps your fiend, also combo's nice with marauders. This deck can be too low on creatures though. Manamorphose is a must in - pump your fiend + draw a card for free sounds pretty cool.

  • The Burning Kiln   15 years 3 weeks ago

Been busy at work, so just now getting caught up on articles. Nicely done as usual top to bottom. I was talking with a fellow newb pauper player about fiend many weeks ago. I've been spending lots of time on Legacy lately and never had time to follow up on the idea. Nice to see you run with the card.

    Great Article!

  • State of the Program - May 28th 2010   15 years 3 weeks ago
Wow. I played that like a newb, and still won! Kind of a testament to the power of the deck, I guess. :) Thinking about that last turn gives me a lot more options about how to win AND how not to get blown out by removal and still have a backup plan...
  • State of the Program - May 28th 2010   15 years 3 weeks ago

well as im sure you know not everyone who owns an elspeth uses them. For those people that just have them lying around it would be best to sell now in light of this announcement

  • State of the Program - May 28th 2010   15 years 3 weeks ago

The Duel deck comes out September 3rd. People need Elspeths now, not three months in the future. I have no idea why everyone thinks that this should influence the prices of today's Standard.

  • State of the Program - May 28th 2010   15 years 3 weeks ago

Or, as we've seen with Mox Diamond, it takes a while for prices to adjust. People are impatient.

  • Tribal Apocalypse: A Spiritual Awakening   15 years 3 weeks ago

see no one can just leave me to my opinion for some reason it has to be all encompassing of others? Naw i call like I see it. And if you dont like it, then too bad. I mean christ i dont even know you, so why youre in here pitching a tantrum over my opinion is beyond me. Maybe next time I say hey everyone play spirits next week, instead of thinking everyone has some decent instincts and will play spirit I'll nazi everything down to the smallest detail just so someone cant try to loophole an advantage. Sorry i figured the average player understtod what is meant by spirits...not changelings spirits. Oh and I have a pre-emptive response to anything else you say in this thread too...buzz off.

  • Tribal Apocalypse: A Spiritual Awakening   15 years 3 weeks ago

I agree with Shard on this one, was not in the "spirit" of the format......every single other person went and played Spirits....not changlings and merfolk or goblins or kithkin or elves or zombies or slivers or faeries, but actual 20 count spirits.

Edit: I do not think he is a d-bag.

  • Tribal Apocalypse: A Spiritual Awakening   15 years 3 weeks ago

So, the deck is perfectly legal and you're just being a little baby about it then (saying that it's a douche move). That clears things up.

  • Semi Pro - Daily Event #1: Leaving 'Em Black and Blue (and Red) With Grixis!   15 years 3 weeks ago

yeah i read he doesn't have jace. just noting that i was impressed by the fact that he cashed without jace, the mind sculptor in his grixis build :)

  • State of the Program - May 28th 2010   15 years 3 weeks ago

The announcement of the duel decks and the consequences from said announcement probably had not occurred when the price points were taken.

  • Tribal Apocalypse: A Spiritual Awakening   15 years 3 weeks ago

There is a group on the MTG Forums under Tribal Apocalypse. And it's not that the deck was illegal, I never said that, I just said it was a douche move. THat is my personal opinion. Why my opinions are frequently attacked are beyond me. Anyone that knows me, knows I tend to be rather blunt and speak my mind without filtration. Was his deck legal? Yes. did I like it? No. Do others disagree? Yes. Im'm not expecting blind following, but also don;t try to preach to me about my opinions.

  • Vengevine Jund daily #1   15 years 3 weeks ago

R1 featured some really bad misplays on your end as rainin6 mentioned above.
R3G3 you could have slow-rolled Leech for a certain Vengevine recurrence with BBE next turn.

Doctor Anime: it's a 4/3 haster for 4 that has a pretty big chance of recurrence. What's not to like?

  • Two man Extravaganza   15 years 3 weeks ago

Glad you enjoyed it, but I gotta be honest with you. You will never see me do an article about playing dredge as I seriously do not like the deck. I might do an article on how to combat dredge, but even that isn't likely to happen. Then again, never say never.

Don't get me wrong, Dredge serves its' purpose, but not in my deck editor. Actually, after trying dredge a few times I sold off all the staples for it when Bazaar came online for Classic and dredge went through the roof. I even went as far as selling off my Leylines which might of been a bad idea. I have been happy with crypts and relics for the time being.

Thanks to everyone for the warm comments, glad the article was well received!

  • State of the Program - May 28th 2010   15 years 3 weeks ago

    no change with elspeth huh?

  • Semi Pro - Daily Event #1: Leaving 'Em Black and Blue (and Red) With Grixis!   15 years 3 weeks ago

The part about someone owing me the Jaces was (sadly) a joke. And hey thanks for the luck :D

  • Semi Pro - Daily Event #1: Leaving 'Em Black and Blue (and Red) With Grixis!   15 years 3 weeks ago

He clearly says he doesn't have the Jaces but he said someone owes him them.
