• Tribal Apocalypse: As Small As Faeries, As Large As Giants   15 years 2 weeks ago

well judging how the majority of our player base is from either the US or UK we all fall into english only...lol

  • Tribal Apocalypse: As Small As Faeries, As Large As Giants   15 years 2 weeks ago

Yeah, just checked the WotC page. 18-20th of June is archenemies release. Our local one will be on the 19th, so others may not have that issue. Also, it is an "English only" product, so that may mean they aren't selling it in other parts of the world. If I have to miss that week... well that won't be anything new for me. lol However, 2HG is something I love to do, so hopefully enough people will vote for a reschedule.

  • Rogue Play - Your Guide to BYOS Season Two, Part II   15 years 2 weeks ago

Thanks for the comments guys. First of all I apologize for not being able to reply sooner but I'm going through a very hectic period at work. Just /info me on MTGO and you'll see that I'm not even able to log on for some time. I fear this period won't be over soon but we'll see. My job is what feeds me and my family, so without doubt it has the priority.

    Regarding your comments:

1- Yes the banned list looks a bit weird but I know that it will be updated. I'm sure the new version will make more sense.

2- Ranth, those who haven't played BYOS before may think of Lorwyn as the block of the fae and the kithkin, which is only partially true in BYOS. I just ment this.

3- Shard is right; CHK is only good in the right combination. Most of its cards are either good with MRD or with RAV. Other than those (and ICE for Countertop), you wouldn't be needing this block whereas RAV for example is perfect with almost any other block.

4- Enduring Ideal is an idea which I have in my "to play sometime" list and it is perfectly possible to build a very strong deck around it; Mystical Tutor from either Mirage or 6th Ed. makes things even easier.

I'm glad you enjoyed the series guys and I hope to meet you soon in a BYOS tournament.

By the way, don't forget that next week is Seven Deadly Sins week.

    Thanks again for the comments.

Sadly it was scheduled for the 19th. THough if a large number of people are going to this archenemies release then it can be the 26th

  • Tribal Apocalypse: As Small As Faeries, As Large As Giants   15 years 2 weeks ago

So that's what Melissa was running. She wouldn't tell me what it was. Perhaps because I was smashing her with it early in the week? lol But I said, "This deck is fun to play, but it is really lame. It has no answers to fliers." That just shows how bad at deckbuilding I am. It appears she found the answer. I also learned a lesson this past weekend that I can pass on to all the new readers and competitors. Don't bring a singleton deck to a non-singleton tournament. Things don't go well.

On 2HG: No cloudposts, no Slivers, that should do it..... oh and no changlings cause I hates them. Filthy filthy changelings. hehehe Also, When is the 2HG? that would have been nice in the article. :-P I have this nagging suspicion you said June 19th, which would be a huge "Noooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!" As that is the release of the newest multiplayer format, Archenemies.

  • Fun with Vanguard #35: Friends of the Avatars   15 years 2 weeks ago

How dare you say Concerted Effort is a "bad" card in non-vanguard. It's amazing! I bought 4 of them as soon as it came out..... and never built a deck with them. But that's only because I built the akroma avatar deck using all 4 of them as soon as I started playing vanguard. In real life, I had a concerted effort deck that was a ton of fun. And don't forget, most importantly, Concerted Effort can be used in Harem Format! :-) Another great article as usual, loved it!

Here was part of the discussion regarding Hapless. I know it is all bunched up, but you will have to forgive me, copy and paste isn't my friend today.

Hapless Researcher vs. Careful Study – Pro/Con list

    Pro: Hapless Researcher

Buys early life, maybe critical life, when chump-blocking, making Reanimate more versatile A cheap target for Reanimate late game when you just need a chump-blocker for a turn.
When in play, allows both Mindbreak Trap and Ravenous Trap (and other instants like Force or Daze) to be fetched and played on the same turn as casting Mystical Tutor Allows Brainstorm to hide an instant on the top of the deck for later use that turn
    Saves fatties from Edict effects
Can put some tiny pressure against a control deck
Can trade with X/1s like Dark Confidant Attacks for 1 (Sphinx more likely to be a 3-turn clock, e.g.)
Takes out Bridge from Below at will
Immune from Duress and Spell Pierce and Cursecatcher

    Con: Hapless Researcher

Unlike CS, doesn’t interact with the 2nd card from the top, especially if that card were critical, or any card behind it had to have arrived one turn earlier to have won the game
Fails vs. Humility and Pithing Needle (both seem pretty minor)
Can't discard two cards which is sometimes relevant (like two fatties)
Otherwise, they play out the same. Example: both discard the fatty already in your hand.

  • When It Rains It Prides?   15 years 2 weeks ago

It isn't due to budget, hapless is in there to replace careful study, neither card cost to much. I am not sure of all his card choices, but his list did go 3-1 in another Daily Event which means it can't be that poor.

  • Freed from the Real # 67: MEleven   15 years 2 weeks ago

anchorman is that you? also we have 30 days in june before they tell us something...people need to calm down, this game isnt about what WotC can do for ME...its about playing cards

  • Standard Pauper Deck Tech #1: TOKENS!   15 years 2 weeks ago

Great framing/video layout. Really enjoyed this...I just can't get into the subsections/cultures of anything other than straight pauper. Just my bias I guess, but with Pauper being such a wide-open/ever changing meta...it seems strange to subcategorize it with Ext/Std versions...I always see one lone person waiting to play this format, and finally playing straight pauper after waiting 20 min :) that being said, good stuff.

  • When It Rains It Prides?   15 years 2 weeks ago

Compared to the Deck list Angel is playing I should say. Nothing about the player himself. The use of the Researcher seems like a budget pick. Maybe he can explain more himself on the choice.

  • Freed from the Real # 67: MEleven   15 years 2 weeks ago

finally its june, now someone please let me know about lifetime point rewardz!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • When It Rains It Prides?   15 years 2 weeks ago

To use the link all you have to do is type the word you want linked, example Here. Copy your link, then hightlight the word "here". Then hit the edit link button in the article editor, paste the copied link, hit ok and it will automatically copy the link to the highlighted word.

The UWGR Player you refer to is Fiatlux I am assuming since he pilots rogue type lists all the time.

@ Bazaar of Baghdad - I hardly doubt his deck is poorly built. He is a fairly successful Classic/Legacy player. Although, since he is my clanmate I might be a bit biased.

  • Budgeted Resources - Turning princes into frogs   15 years 3 weeks ago

Excellent deck with one minor exception. I so loath Wretched Anurid because it is....well...Wretched. I watched a couple of those games and imho it was not your friend. Anyway nice rise to the challenge. :D

  • Anything But - It's Bananas! ... Tribal Week 6   15 years 3 weeks ago

I am with Shard on this one, without the artifact lands Affinity is not a deck. Everything would be so much slower and the plating you mention would not add a whole lot. I don't really see how Eldrazi compare though. Affinity was the standard metagame, and went on to be a top Extended and Legacy deck too. Eldrazi give new targets for decks that cheat creatures into play and beat up people in the casual room. I imagine they are rough to run into unprepared, but comparing them to affinity as far as a power level mistake is hyperbole.

  • Anything But - It's Bananas! ... Tribal Week 6   15 years 3 weeks ago

the lands gave it the speed though. With every land basically counting as two mana towards myr enforcer and frogmite and thoughtcast. I can see affinity without the lands but it would not be anywhere near the tournament destroyer that it was. Oh and find me a GOOD affinity deck without artifact lands...I dare you

  • Anything But - It's Bananas! ... Tribal Week 6   15 years 3 weeks ago

I'm more of a mind that the Plating was the biggest issue with affinity, remove that and the draw spell and its a lot worse

  • Anything But - It's Bananas! ... Tribal Week 6   15 years 3 weeks ago

And yet you are wrong. Affinity surely did drag its heels without the lands but sucked? You go too far. I didn't even play then and yet I was hearing about affinity every day. With and without the lands. There were of course MANY MANY bad builds. Just as there are with goblins/elves/rdw/etc. People thought to innovate and found that it wasn't a very good archetype to try that with.

  • Tribal Apocalypse: As Small As Faeries, As Large As Giants   15 years 3 weeks ago

lol ya sorry bout that i was just fed up with ppl complaining about burn so i figured f-it i'll play burn then! (and kept 3 or 4 critters in hand all game :-p )

  • Tribal Apocalypse: As Small As Faeries, As Large As Giants   15 years 3 weeks ago

yea the deck has creatures until you decide to be an azz and not cast a single creature lol that really set me off more then anything

  • Tribal Apocalypse: As Small As Faeries, As Large As Giants   15 years 3 weeks ago

Absolutely you do more creature damage, it's a typical RDW deck. The principles haven't changed since Jackal pups and cursed scrolls were part of the archetype, swing with cheap red men, burn out the opposition or his creatures.

  • PTQ Amsterdam- Lexington, KY **1st Place**   15 years 3 weeks ago

GL in amsterdam man. i'll hopefully be playing this friday at the shop.

  • Tribal Apocalypse: As Small As Faeries, As Large As Giants   15 years 3 weeks ago

lol AJ I might just run a deck tech video for this since it usually doesn't end burn burn burn as people expect or even tend to think after the blitzing beating they just took.

I really do tend to do more creature damage usually then burn infact i've had plenty of games in which i only cast 2 instants all game and till win turn 4-5.

However Sorry JustSin after all the snide burn comments from people last week your comment after g1 kinda set me off and it shouldn't have.
