Thanks for running this. I had a blast and actually enjoyed it a lot more than I thought I would.
I'll probably be there for next season. That month is going to be really busy, but even if I can't make 5 games, it's still a lot of fun. And although the prizes are great, they don't cover the cost of cracking packs (which is good, it keeps the players just looking for payout from playing), so it's no worry if you don't get all 5 games.
I have to say I'm a little disappointed by the core-only format. What I liked about the first season was the variety of decks. I was playing with and against a lot of cards that I'd never seen before. I'm worried that season two will be all M11 decks.
Nobody should worry about skill level. I'm only an okay player and still had a blast and did well. By playing pretty much the same deck for an entire month my skill with it (and Magic in general) was noticeably greater at season's end.
Do you have stats for how many and what kind of packs were used in season 1? If you have that compiled anywhere it would be interesting to see.
Don't be afraid to play better players then yourself. It is the only way you are going to get better at the game. You will learn from your mistakes and from the game play of others.
I live in the US central time zone so I should be ok. I suppose this would be the best time to test the waters since it is a core set. Well I will acquire the packs and sign up. Hopefully I crack a Titan or Baneslayer.
I liked this list as it gave me a few cards to consider for my Jund and for my gruul decks. I have Hoarding Dragon in my Jund deck already and mainly because its a red air elemental and is a decent 5 mana dragon. I doubt the ability will ever work but its such a narrow use im sure there is something in SoM which is made to work with this.
Hi lumbydan time wise your looking at 5 games a week. Most of the players are on evenings and during the weekends.
The skill level is casual players theres no pro's in the event. Being core set this time its most likely the best time to join in as there wont be lots of strange mechanics from across various blocks like the last league for you to learn.
Just a thought on time zones you should be ok depending on where youre from. We had players from Europe and the US in the league last time round.
The problem I have with this is thats open to cheating like with draft pools. People could enter multiple events and then choose the best pool for the league.
Booster cracking on the other hand is less of an option for cheaters as you only crack a pack at a time and cant use it for anything else.
What is the time committment to be in this league? I have young kids and so I usually am only playing later in the evening 4 to 5 times a week.
What is the skill level of the group? I have been playing MTG for about 8 months now and I am getting better but still make those boneheaded plays from time to time.
I would love to join if those two questions don't pose a lot of problems. This looks like a lot of fun.
led dredge and non led dredge are 2 completletly different decks. and as a matter of fact, led versions are far far far worse then the turn slower but infinatly more consistant no led decks. if your gonna bash people dont leave holes for others to bash you.
I'm more upset about screwing up Overwhelming Stampede. That's just a case of RTFC. Obviously with trample the card is much better. Not top 10 better, but still better.
I honestly had no idea about Maze of Ith. I knew that it wasn't in any of the MED sets, and hadn't seen anyone play it yet. I assumed that it would probably come out in the next MED set and we had to wait till then to get it. Wrong assumption I guess. 25 tix is a lot, though. I would probably wait till MED 4 comes out to see if I could get a cheaper version before shelling out that kind of cash. Of course, now that I know it's out there, I may not be able to wait...
Yes Maze is online, and can be picked up for about 25 tix currently. Worth it IMO as it's a beautiful rattlesnake card, though very likely to get destroyed. Think it was only given out to judges in a recent online tourney, but there's a bunch floating around.
I'm really sorry for not being able to continue after week two. Not only because I had a nice card pool and a decent deck, but also the whole league idea was lots of fun. Life is too busy and fast these days, and I just couldn't find time for the league.
Anyway, I wish all the participants of month two the very best of luck. Life doesn't seem to slow down for me these days, and therefore it's impossible for me to participate.
Oh and congrats to the winners, and kudos to Flippers for organizing this.
I really liked my Urza's Legacy sealed pool. After going 3-0 my laptop crapped out and I couldn't play consistently. I'm very excited for the next season. After this season I would really like to go back to picking any pack you want though. My favorite part was playing with the cards I grew up playing with.
Thursday Night Magic this week is four pack sealed M11. Is it possible to use that card pool as four packs and open one additional pack for the card pool? Seems like a good opportunity to get more value out of a sealed pool but if this is not allowed because the rest of the players have opened packs on their own, I understand.
Back when spg used to write I used to proofread his articles first. Figures, too, because his first draft was 99.5% or 100% awesome every time. And then I'd laugh at "homonym eras" in other people's articles. Occasionally I'd catch something content related, like offhandedly mentioning that Animate Dead can reanimate fatties like Akroma. (Think about it.)
Hopefully every aspiring writer here has a friend in the game. Have that person read your article before you submit it. Then ask them what their comment would be. Most people can't help you with fixing a poor structure like what Longshot356 is talking about. But at the very least if they can catch a few "homonym eras" it will make this website a better place. A year ago I remember the articles here being really bad in that particular regard. Since then I don't know if the writing has improved, or if I've just become numb to it.
Good deck, but I think a lot has to go right for you to draft this type of deck. It is not an archetype I would go into a draft expecting it to become available. Hell, even having 2 calcite snapper is rare enough, let alone 4.
I have played spreading seas maindeck before and it has won me more games than it lost me. The key is actually havng cards you can swap out against blue decks, even if they are subpar.
Next article, you might want to try I instead of we. I'm uncomfortable feeling responsible for your play mistakes. D:

It's kind of like a side bet. Bring a monoblue nonfaeries/nonmerfolk tribe to the PRE and 3-0 to win the prize.
Don't be afraid to play better players then yourself. It is the only way you are going to get better at the game. You will learn from your mistakes and from the game play of others.
What is the Monoblue Challange?
Cool nice to have you on board, good luck with getting a mythic.

That's no problem LE I know how you feel I had the same issues over the last few weeks of the league and found it hard to find time as well.
That's a shame Rory I did wonder what happened to you as your deck had great potential.

Wow, two big mistakes. Sorry guys.

maze was given out to everyone who qualified for the last MOCS. top-32 also got a foil version.

Overwhelming Stampede does give trample.

Maze of Ith IS online, albeit hard to obtain since its only in promo form.
Happens quite often with me, seems totally random. I've never had two versions of it opened either.
