True enough, both necro and pox were highly underrated at first. I had a bad necropox brew which I kept tuning but it was never the top tier deck that necro eventually became. I didn't even realize how powerful it could be until I saw some of our pros go at it with the mirror. Hymns and Hyppies making the games rather viscious and Disk to reset the board.
Also don't forget to add to the list the fact I can buy 3x paper boosters for 10 dollars any day, everyday at almost every card shop that isn't a major retailer like walmart, kmart or meijers. And while we are at it, don't forget to add promo cards that aren't standard legal to the list of things that get under my skin. Those 4x promo FNM krosan grips and 4x qasali pridemages I won would be great sideboard cards for my paper legacy deck if I could afford to have a paper legacy deck. I guess if I play enough std magic maybe eventually I'll have a pimped out promo legacy deck 80)~
They can't screw up ME4 can they? I mean aren't we running out of crappy cards to fill in the sets lol. Actually I loved drafting med2 and med3 so I'll stay neutral on that issue for the time being.
Week 1 my Deck was junk, week 2 my deck was meh with a Vess added, week 3+ my deck was sick and u never played me!...WIMP!....haha grats on your win =P
I guess I shoulda been more clear. I am not opposed to any/all writing, and would actually love a little summary section at least. I just don't want to accidentally read a spoiler or something at the top of the article.
Well I also disagree with Paul and Westane, who initially agreed with! HA! C wat i did thar? No but seriously, as far as "substance" goes it was fine, "I" just prefer to have some written goodness to go with it, but to each his own. I could easily just throw a playlist at the top of my articles and call it done, it's just not "my" style.... "."
I would have to disagree w/ Paul and Westane, (as I think they tend to be long-winded anyway :P) and say that I would be opposed to any writing, unless of course, you put it at the end of the article as a summary or something. I like the clean look and easy navigation of having all the vids right there at the top.
As for your vid, all I can say is Never force it. (that's what she said).
When I watched the draft, I couldn't help but think "Wow. You don't have to gaze into two Crystal Balls to see that the person behind him taking the green cards is going to 3-0."
But seriously, thanks for the draft video.
Well call me old-fashioned (guy with battery on shoulder dares you!) But I expect some sort of writing in an article post. I appreciate the time that goes into making videos but it seems like a half step to me. Some 200 words would be scant but still worth it if they contained some personal opinions of the picks/drafts and might actually make me want to watch the videos instead of seeing the things and thinking: Too lazy to even warm up the crowd? The art of writing does not go unnoticed on this site and there are plenty of good writers here. Some are extremely excellent writers, including those of whom English is not their native language.
So yeah 200 words would be a start imho. Perhaps along the lines of "So I was drafting the other day and I realized that this draft was the perfect archetype for an article and so here it is mistakes and all:" and "I draft x/y/z because of this that and the other thing. This set means a and b to me and I think it should to you...This is why you want c and d and not e. As you can see f and g were instrumental blah blah" etc.
You make me miss paper trading for sure. Can't do crazy trades online without risking mayhem. I see your point though I am not sure I agree. I think it may be a great casual set and since that is where most of my magic attention is that is just fine with me and I think there are few sleepers among the normal rares and uncommons. (*Thinks back to tempest traderwind rider, scrollrack and cursed scroll all of which were vastly underrated at first.)
Would 200 words make it all better? People tend not to complain about not being able to read the podcasts each week. I'm not trying to pick a fight as I often don't listen to the podcasts and the few words that are written are indeed quite helpful, but I'm curious what that would add to a draft walk through since most of the interesting material is in the draft picks or particular plays during the round...usually not some overarching idea that can be taken away (i.e. 'bombs are good and win games when you draw them')
Honestly, I won the sealed event (actually drew 1/2 in the finals). I was so bored throughout the event. Poison never caught on, don't think it ever will. Don't get me wrong the set has some awesome cards, they conveniently just all happen to be mythic with one or two exceptions. I am excited about Koth, but not excited about forking out more money. I will say it seems alot easier to trade for what you want in paper as opposed to online play. Online, everyone values cards by their exact worth, in paper players in my area value cards for their worth plus how much it is needed to complete their deck. For example, I needed a scalding tarn, a bloodghast and a vampire hexmage. My fellow local magic player wanted overwelming stampedes and capitivating vampires. The problem is online this is nowhere near a fair trade esp since his tarn was foil, but in the end he needed the cards really bad and was willing to take a hit. The mtgo player in me was like oh my gosh this is a killer trade. I even told him it wasn't a even trade and gave him gaea's revenge. I ended up +20 bucks in that trade but he didn't care.
I guess my point is, at least on paper I have a chance of getting Koths at a reasonable rate or even trade, online this simply doesn't happen.
I'm almost off this soap box and I rarely complain about this game, but lately online just isn't doing it for me anymore.
I guess we all go through spurts where we leave the game for a short period, maybe this is one for me. Funny to say this but mirrdion was the first set I started competitively playing so it's kinda of ironic that I don't like scars.
I can already tell I'm gonna get sick and tired of playing against myr decks.
Having played in a paper sealed prelease, I'll probably be avoiding the entire set as I think it is flat out garbage. It cost $25 for me to play in the paper prerelease so paying 20 tixs for drafting seems like insanity and screw the promo. You can hold out for awhile and get them dirt cheap too. I remember getting my promo titans for 1.5
I've always been a mtgo guy until about 3 months ago and as much as it pains me to say this.......Paper magic is stealing my passion atm. Maybe it's the stagnant Legacy Meta getting to me. Maybe it's the crappy booster payouts of Legacy events. All I know is right now I am more interested in play testing my mass polymorph or titan ramp decks for friday. This new set just seems blah to me. Even the card prices seem to be tanking already (aside from the obv myths that wizards strong armed us with).
Maybe I just need to splurge and go buy another dual land to make myself feel better lol.
I'm sure that Myr Reservoir will gain a lot of value in time. After we get more and more Myrs with the second and the third sets of the block, there surely will be a lot of nice things to do with that card.
I will definitely buy my playset now and be happy later :).
I always double check the cards before adding them to the deck. I'm pretty sure Unmake was legal back then. It may not be now but it surely was legal at some point. I don't usually do such mistakes.
Having said that, I hope to participate in this weekend's tournament but it's not for certain yet. Hopefully everything goes according to the plan and I'll meet you all on the battlefield :).
Very nice article. You picked all of the cards from red, green and the artifacts that I would have choosen to talk about except for one. That card is Myr Reservoir. Anything that can regrow cards and ramp is worth a second look. I'm not sure if there is a critical mass of myr to make a deck out of it yet, but I'm betting it will see play at some point in time before this block is finished.
It's also nice for regrowing changelings in more casual formats.
I rather miss the days of underrated cards. It seems like Wizards just keeps regurgitating the same mechanics over and over.

Not to mention Necropotence...
Hey, I like you XD

Prerelease drafts for 20 tickets are a joke.
Just add it to the list:
Scars of Mirrodin
Eternal payouts
Client bugs
4322
Mythic rare tourney staples
ORCs
And I'll go out on a limb and say ME4.
Hopefully I'm wrong about this last one.

He did have an intro, I'm not saying......just saying:
"I force R/W agro in an 8-4. Check out the videos to see what went right, what went wrong, and how I try and justify double Crystal Ball. "

My-Lord-Erman,
Well even a more honest mistake then, of course that's why we made a static list that price variance wouldn't drive us mad heh.
It'll be great having you this Saturday if you can come, I look forward to seeing what you bring to brutalize the Heirloom rabble.
X-
Meaning Tribal Wars Classic? lol.
It was definitely legal at the beginning of the first article as I too checked it back then.
Wow really...Garbage? I am a bit surprised to hear that from an avid player.

They're not wearing any makeup. They're just pissed I gave them 'Black and Blue' eyes... rofl.. awesome...
