Oops, my bad, thanks. I was thinking it was like Angelic Page. Luckily it's irrelevant to my main point about lifelink. =)

See below: yes. Any game played on MTGO that is not casual/unwatchable can be viewed from your games tab with this technique.

  • M11 draft   14 years 37 weeks ago

I'm not even sure all the ORCs know about the trick, and I'm sure the ones that do aren't allowed to openly condone hacking an MTGO file like that. It's like turning to Apple Customer Support for details on how to jailbreak your iPhone.

It works for ANY game that was not specifically listed as not watchable in one of the casual rooms, not just games you were in. If you add a game you weren't in, you will view it as though observing, with no hand info revealed.

Also, some old games just flat-out aren't watchable, I think it's a server-side thing. This hack works for all recent games though.

The real trick is remembering to note your game numbers before the end of a draft. If your opponent concedes game three in the finals of an 84 and you didn't screen cap it or write it down, if the replay was lost, you are pretty out of luck at that point.

    Hey,

I hope everyone enjoyed the podcast this week. Sucks things got cut off at the end, but such is life sometimes.

I want to say thanks to Erik and AJ for giving me the trial run and accommodating my schedule to get it done. Hopefully you will here from me again in the future.

im fine with slivers and knights, but when you run the elf and goblin decks that win legacy tournies? that's out of place in my opinion

  • Heirloom Constructed: Godfathers Part 2   14 years 37 weeks ago

    Hey Paul,

I think I may be exaggerating the predictability of chess match outcomes but I still essentially disagree. I don't think magic and chess are very close as far as variance goes. In magic anyone can beat anyone else on any given day because of pure shutout luck or bad luck one way or the other. In chess I don't imagine this happens (I am not that experienced with chess but it stands to reason based on what I don know about it) that with certain match-ups unless the other player has a stroke mid-match and times out the one player is going to beat the other every single time.

I think of magic as being somewhat of a combination of chess and poker, something in-between where variance, bluffing and insights beyond the known state of play all combine to give us something that's a little bit of each.

Perhaps we have both been to hyperbolic and the truth is somewhere in the middle.

seeing a new set is always love hate for me... I get so excited and get all these ideas for building decks in my fav formats such as tribal, but then I'm forced to wait and wait for them to actually be released and I can never do it all just never enough time lol

  • M11 draft   14 years 37 weeks ago

WOW! Thanks for the great info! It's funny that I asked the ORCs if it was possible to see a replay when the draft is over if they aren't in the GAMES tab and they said it was impossible. They should have mentioned this. It's really something I don't understand...

  • M11 draft   14 years 37 weeks ago

not even negotiable is a bold statement. Drake vs Adept it's close and I admit I wasn't sure and it was probably a mistake. Crusader vs thief? The thief is only good when the deck goes a certain way. Crusader dominates every other common flier except for the black shade but that is very mana intensive.

And sure, embrace opens yourself to a 2 for 1. But it is so powerful that it's worth it. Usually 2 or 3 hits kill your opp. When paired with blue you'll have counters anyway. Ember Hauler is a signal if it comes late.

In this case his plays suggest it does have (and if fact he had). So it was correct to play around it at least for a while. After that I got 2 better options which got countered.

You need to provide definitions for words you invent so we can enjoy your coinage. Otherwise it just looks like gibberish.

    Godot. I love you.

  • Tribal Apocalypse: Against the Gauntlet   14 years 37 weeks ago

As much as I respect what you are saying I have to disagree with one statement. People did bring goblins, elves etc during Shard's Apocs. In fact that is one reason I stopped going regularly. I lost to two elves decks last weekend and was minorly annoyed with that but not because my ops broke any agreement. There is no such agreement. Bring whatever you want if it isn't banned. That is the only thing people have agreed upon. I brought 4c Angels which was probably a mistake considering it's 1-2 record and the end result of not much fun to be had.

  • M11 draft   14 years 37 weeks ago

Does that work with any games ie; non draft ones as well?

  • M11 draft   14 years 37 weeks ago

Pro Tip: track your game numbers during matches of drafts you are considering writing up. Any missing games can be added to your [username].mygames file by opening it in notepad. Simply copy an existing game line, paste it in, and change the game number only (the other stuff doesn't need to be changed), and save. The added games will be replayable upon restarting MTGO.

  • M11 draft   14 years 37 weeks ago

you cant play around everything. imho, That is not a good reason to hold air servant at hand, while he is beating you with angel. you only have that luxury if you already have the board dominance.

  • Tribal Apocalypse: Against the Gauntlet   14 years 37 weeks ago

I will be keeping track of all the tribes that are placed in the money from now onwards and if it looks like a particular tribe is dominating then I'll see what can be done by banning cards and as a last resort banning tribes. I could add this to the article as a rolling count if people are interested.

I dont want to go down this route but if the players in the event are not happy then I will step in with my big stick, without you the players there would be no event and we dont want that to happen.

  • Tribal Apocalypse: Against the Gauntlet   14 years 37 weeks ago

I was all happy the apocalypse was not gonna die. But if people are going to play those decks im not coming back to the PRE anytime soon. I was also under the impression from Shard running it that those decks would not show up.

I definitely appreciate the feedback, although there isn't much I can do about the image formatting. I'm not sure why it hasn't been updated yet, to be honest. I also feel a bit pinned in by the thumbnail or full image options as the thumbnails are kinda tiny but the full images are enormous. Manually creating a link every time I want to display an image or link a cardname would add a LOT of overhead to my writing process and would probably mean getting these articles out a week later than they normally would (I don't have a ton of time to write at the moment). Given that people want this information earlier, I've decided to put it out there and let the editor decide when to publish.

As far as headers go, is there any simple way to generate these without using image manipulation software and then uploading the images to some hosting site for linkage? I've gotta be honest that I'm a content guy and not a formatting guy. I'd like to do this but I don't want to spend a ton of time making image headers that I could be spending on content.

That doesn't work, does it? I mean, he will obviously block the Cyclops with the Child of Night and gain 4 after a pump with the Infantry Veteran. So, when the dust settles he'd be at 4... unless I suck at math too. =D
