    Your ratings are very off.
    crusader>scroll thief?
    Azure drake> Aether Adept?
    these arent even negotiable.
also, you're overrating Ember Hauler and Shiv Embrace. the embrace suffers from the same problem as armored ascension, in that its effect is not powerful enough for its cost and the risk of a 2-for-1. also, ember hauler is good, but i would never take it as a sign that red is open

I don't agree that the top tribes should be playing this tournament. It's not hard with a little bit of money to make a top tribe deck and dominate this format. When shard ran the event, it was a gentlemans agreement for most of us not to use the top tribes and I am not refering to pauper. This was discussed in more detail in the comments of this article.

    http://puremtgo.jamuraa.net/articles/tribal-apocalypse-everlasting-torment

I was a little annoyed to play a first round Sliver deck, then a second round goblin deck??? Not to mention I did see the elf deck. I was under the impression we as a group would stay away from those tribes, but if the moderators running the PRE's are ok with these tribes, then the rest of us should go ahead an just build tier one tribe decks. I have a few Legacy goblin and sliver decks I would be willing to go with.

I would like to hear what Shard's take on this is since he is the one who originated the PRE.

  • M11 draft   14 years 37 weeks ago

Because he had Mind Control in his deck and almost for sure it was in his hand. Not only that but at the end of G2, before I topdecked Unsummon (without it on that turn I would have lost almost for sure) he told me he had 2 Mind Control in his deck.

i think u played very wrong last game. why didnt u play air servant, when you played drake?

  • Rogue Play - My 'Scars of Mirrodin', Part I   14 years 37 weeks ago

    Demonstrative? Impressive?

  • M11 draft   14 years 37 weeks ago

That's not true so early in the draft. If you already have some removal and 1 or 2 eather adepts than scroll thief becomes much better but that's in a specific deck. There are more decks where the crusader is better.

  • Scars of Mirrodin Mechanics in Draft: Metalcraft and "Artifacts Matter" (Part II)   14 years 37 weeks ago

It's true the formatting is a bit messed up right now, but the content of the article is excellent. Speculation on what archetypes are going to be important in Scars and what cards they will need takes a bit of courage and is invaluable. By the time I learned all of the ROE archetypes, the format was already starting to fade in importance. It's nice to have the goods earlier this time.

  • Tribal Apocalypse: Against the Gauntlet   14 years 37 weeks ago

In regular tribal there aren't enough options to boost the power of smaller tribes to the extent that they could, say, compete on a level playing field in a Legacy money event.

Fortunately, it's not like a goblins build could manage that, eh?

    Oh.

  • M11 draft   14 years 37 weeks ago

A player opened Frost, Inferno and Grave titan in his three packs at my local store 3 weeks ago. He played all three (and lost to a deck with two mind controls, har har har)

  • M11 draft   14 years 37 weeks ago

"Cloud Crusader is significantly better than Scroll Thief"

To me, it's not even better yet alone significantly better. I slam the Scroll Thief here.

Fun draft! Double titan... livin' the dream.

    Not reading this.

I'm *truly* meaning no direct disrespect to the author, but this formatting is an eyesore. Puremtgo needs to get their cardlinks programmed in faster. Rollover graphic popups also seem to be the norm on other similar strategy websites too, which would help here immensely.

And the graphics that are showing correctly are far too tiny to read.

Not trying to be a butthead. I own my own business and I always appreciate constructive criticism on how I can make my own operations run better. Hopefully the people (person?) behind the scenes here aren't offended by what I'm saying. I do appreciate the site but desperately want to see it keep up in article quality.

Wow, giving up when you have lethal on the board. I hope I've never done that!

  • Lessons In Draft: Rare Drafting FTW!   14 years 37 weeks ago

Shocked you gave that one up aswell. Weak play.

Apart from that its good to see a mono red deck drafted. Haven't seen too many of those. Nice work on that!

  • Tribal Apocalypse: Against the Gauntlet   14 years 37 weeks ago

I believe pauper tribal is a bit different than regular tribal, and banning the top tribes in pauper tribal makes a lot of sense.

In pauper there really aren't enough options to boost the power of the smaller tribes so that they can compete with the bigger tribes.

You have some solid insights on the format, but you really need to work on the formatting.

I know that Puremtgo.com hasn't linked in Scars cards yet, but they are up on mtgotraders.com, and you can link them manually. You could also upload some card pictures and some graphic headers to break up the walls of text.

By their very nature, set reviews are a bit dry and boring, and it really helps to add whatever you can to keep things interesting.

Thanks for the reply. I'm sorry about the title but I'm not very creative when it comes to titles. It doesn't help that English is not my first language.

I like the videos CFB style but that's not something I want to do because even the pros make mistakes when they're not focused only on the draft, so I can't imagine how many times I would punt if I was doing it that way. I realize it's the best way to describe what is going on at the time of the picks/plays but I'll leave that to the pros.

But if I'm not doing it CFB style, I prefer putting the draft there because it's so much easier and faster to do it and the same is true for the reader. I don't like the way some articles here do the pick presentation because you have to keep click to go forward instead of just scrolling down and that way you can't comment on each pick.

For the games, again if it's not CFB style, I like videos and than some written commentary. That way it prevents some comments "why did you do this?" or "you should have this instead of that" when you already have an explanation for those situations.

One word about the format: I hated M10 limited, both sealed and draft but I really like M11 in both. Sure it's a core set so it won't have much synergy but they still managed to make the RB sac outlets + skeleton and act of treason archetype viable while balancing the colors much more than in M10. One year ago I only played in M10 ptq but this time I played both M11 ptqs and I plan on playing the 3rd even though it starts at a bad hour for me. The only thing I don't like in M11 is Primeval Titan because it makes ramp deck viavle in constructed.

I haven't even read this yet, and I have to say that at a glance I am very eager to see what it says. Thanks for the analysis.

uh.. yeeeeaaaahhh.. people need to learn a little patience, and mathematics.

  • Lessons In Draft: Rare Drafting FTW!   14 years 37 weeks ago

that way you can deal 15 in total (if you pump shiv's embrace) but there's a way to deal 16: play triske, ping him 3 times and attack with everything. Kill the flier with the 4/4 and pump shiv's. Now you deal 3 from triske, 6 from beserker and 10 from spitfire. He'll gain 3 from lifelink. 19-3=16. Not relevant in this case but he could be at 16 and it would matter.

One thing I like about mtgo is that in situations like this (and those more complex) you can take your time to stop and think about every option. IRL even if you have played fast the whole game and there's a really hard play that you need to think for a few minutes you'll probably be called on slow play. In mtgo if you have been playing fast (and are used to the interface) you can take your time in a few situations when you really need to.

  • Lessons In Draft: Rare Drafting FTW!   14 years 37 weeks ago

Another option would be to cast the Triskelion. Ping your opponent down to 13, spitfire up to 4/3. Ping him again: life total down to 12 spitfire up to 7/3. Attack with th 7/3, 5/4 and the cyclops and put the cyclops damage on the spectre to take out the flying blocker. Still have another point on the Triskelion for kicks.

  • M11 draft   14 years 37 weeks ago

I enjoyed it. I almost didn't read it due to the title, but that just goes to show how much psychology revolves around every facet of presentation. I'm not speaking down to you at all, just thinking out loud. That said, I actually really like the format, and will consider, um, borrowing it for my future draft articles XD. I, like so many other readers/writers here, read Pure from work, so having the hybrid written/video format is just great, and has only made me realize how much I've fallen back on that media for my articles. I say an article that makes others want to improve is a 5-star in my book! Also, nice draft, pulling two titans is good tech, I'll try to mimic that strategy in the future XD.

  • Lessons In Draft: Rare Drafting FTW!   14 years 37 weeks ago

Match 1 game 1: Play the trike. Ping the specter. Ping him: lifetotal down to 13, spitfire up to 4/3. Ping him agan: lifetotal down to 12, Spitfire up to 7/3. Swing with the 7/3 and the 5/4 to deal 12 damage.

  • Tribal Apocalypse: Against the Gauntlet   14 years 37 weeks ago

There's a number of good reasons why Shard used to ban the most egregious tribes from his occasional pauper tribal apocs. People can bring what they like, that doesn't mean we have to like what they bring.

Many thanks for standing in Marcus.

It will be interesting to see if Elves, Gobbos and Slivers turn up again this weekend
