I hate this for so many reasons...mainly because the person who would benefit most from our love, is now gone. So to your lovely wife - Erik was the glue of our little community. And to your adorable son - game on, I'm sure you'll feel the energy of your father when and if you ever pick up this game we all love...
I rarely draft control or blue cards for that matter but after getting an Angel first pick and an Atonomist second pick I decided to take the third pick Infuser from a fairly weak pack and give this deck a try.
Ended up losing in round 2, some how for a U/W deck I had surprisingly few fliers and that cost me. Still the deck seemed good and I'd consider playing it again if I find myself drafting blue.
I'm just finding this news out tonight. My condolences to his family and friends. I was just talking to another MTGO player about him. How he contributes to make our experience better. Say a prayer, I'll miss his work. He is truly inspiring.
Normally, April 1st is my favorite holiday because I always love to prank my friends and family. However, now I am going to look at it in a different light.
I am hoping now that there will be more people like me that have always read Erik Friborg's articles and will now step out of the shadows to comment and possibly even create our own articles.
I never posted before but normally I would just read Erik Friborg's articles and I always thought the information was useful or relevant to what I was playing in the Classic format. I loved seeing the prices of cards go up and down and I always used MTGO Traders and MTGO Library to compare prices.
It is really sad to hear this news and it is going to be hard to find similar articles that discuss card prices the way he did it.
An amazingly written tribute, very heart-felt. Thank you for writing it, it gives me a better view of Erik, who I only spoke with a few times.
Rest in peace, Erik.
Wow, I don't know where to start. Checking my daily magic articles and comming across what has been posted here at pure mtgo has really brought me down. When I saw the first article, I thought this was some kind of April Fools Joke. Guess the Joke is on me.
Like many others who have already posted, I can't say I knew Erik, but I can say I enjoyed his articles, and the work he put through to the community. Sacrificing one's free time is never an easy thing, especially when you have a wife and a kid. Erik gave a little bit of himself every week to entertain the magic community. For that alone, I am appreciative of what he has done. His work will surely be missed.
Magic the gathering has brought many of us together as a big family. We share good times with each other, we fight like siblings, and when one passes away, we mourn. Erik will always be remembered by all of us. My heart goes out to his wife, his kid, and to the rest of the magic community.
Let us not dwell on the passing of a fellow magic enthusiast, but celebrate the fact we were blessed enough to have been graced by his presence.
Rest in Peace good friend, and may your trip to Heaven be guided by true angels.
A few months ago I decided to come back to MTGO after being gone for several years. I was looking for a podcast that dealt mainly with MTGO and Freed from the Real was that podcast. I really enjoyed Eric's views on playing MTGO and I never missed an episode and I will continue to listen moving forward to honor what he helped create.
Waiting for the podcast , Rest in peace Hammy
His kid will never get to know him , as a father of three kids myself , i can't help thinking about that.
I hope that he will know about his dad and about his deeds.
May he be a great Mage like Erik
I have not been in touch with Erik since we worked together at IBM, but I am very sad for this loss to all, especially his wife, baby and family. RIP Hammy
I didn't really know Hammy, but I was amazed by how open he was when I asked if I could write about the Harem format. Not only did he suprise me then, but after my first article posted and people started the flames, he messaged me on MTGO and told me not to quit. He basically, after a short conversation, convinced me to keep writing about the format even if people were angry. He was always willing to chat with me on MTGO and I will miss having him as a game buddy. The site will not be the same without him.
So sad to hear this, going to take a while for it to sink in. We all lost something, and its going to take a lot to begin to get on with our own lives.
Condolences to the PureMtgo staff and Eriks family
Your articles were the reason I became so interested in MTGO, and I can't believe we will no longer have our talks about card prices. :( I'm so sorry for the Friborg family, and my thoughts and prayers are with you all. Erik always wanted us to be up to date with MTGO prices and big new, he will be missed. Thank you Erik. Goodbye my friend. It's a honor to be posting this on his last article.
I only knew the guy from his work here and elsewhere but I enjoyed everything he did for the community. This is a sad turn of events and my condolences go out to his friends and family. You will be missed.

Words fail me. Rest in peace. I am praying for you and your family.

Has anyone heard yet how this happened? My condolences to his family.
Somebody blew up your golem foundry?! :P
That was my thought as well. I definitely hugged my kids extra hard last night...

One last 5 fireball rating for a job well done over the years.
You will be missed, Erik.
Our thoughta and prayers go out to your family in this time of sorrow.
Glad to see that you will be continuing the podcast. I'm sure Erik would approve. He may be gone, but not forgotten!
