Although I didn't know him personally and only saw him online a few times on MTGO, these unexpected news really sadden me. Best wishes to Erik's family.
Only talked with Hamtastic a few times on MTGO, but he was a good guy and I read his articles each week. Thoughts go out to his young family in this sad time.
Still in a bit of shock after reading this last night. His State of the Program articles brought me here each week. Thoughts and condolences to his family. He will be greatly missed.
I never met the guy, but I loved his articles. They were informative, well-written, and fun to read. What the heck happened? Thanks for sharing more information about him. Friends are lifesavers when a family crumbles.
I knew Eric as a friend, though I never once spoke with him. In reading his articles and listening to his pod casts each week, I came to learn how lucky I was to have someone like him working on our behalf each week to bring us news about the common bond we all share, MTGO. Love, kindness, care and compassion are some of his many qualities that were evident in his work and echoed by the way he carried himself. I will miss you dear friend. God bless you and God bless your family.
5 fireballs to celebrate Eric... not for the sad news of his departure.
Dear hammy , you will be missed , your sharp writing and great articles and the love for mono red decks...
my deepest condolences to his family.
i was hoping to comment about the leagues when they do come back (and i was counting on you to update us all) , and share some ideas,
It must have been some sudden tragedy since you never mantion anything about it in your writings..
can't say anything else since its just shocking.
Rest in peace
wow im totally shocked, always looked forwards to fridays cause of his articals, wow im in total disbelief, my condolences go out to his family and friends, wow, what a sad*&@#*&@^#)ing day blah!!!!!!!!
Erik and I always talked about getting together for lunch whenever there was a big Magic tournament coming to Minnesota, but we never got around to it. As sad as I am that we'll never get the chance, I am infinitely more sad for his family.
Sad, just so sad. Thoughts for his family first as well.It is always extremly difficult to find words in these situations. Erik was a pillar of this site, probably the author I rade the most as his implication was so deep, important, sympathical and useful that each of his article was a pleasure to read. I didnt know him personnaly, but I almost believe I had because he was regularly present here, with good mood and interesting articles.
Tribute, respect and RIP.
hammy was a awesome dude, always willing to take the time to chat with you pretty much about any subject. hope his family will do well and rest in peace hammy
Though I never met him, Hamtastic always came across as a genuinely good person. I was active on the WOTC MTGO boards before they ruined them, and interacted with the community daily. Hamtastic was the kindest, most reasonable person I have ever interacted with in an online community. He was patient, firm, and tactful as a community lead.
There are only a few people I have ever met that have seemed as good as Hammy, and I'm glad to see that being a good person is still recognized and valued. No matter how wealthy or prestigious you are, it's your impact on others that matters.
Hammy, I, I random college student who you never even met in real life, am crying because the world is a little bit darker without you.
I'm at work. I cannot concentrate or do anything. I just sit and waste time. A colleague asked what's wrong with me. I told her that I lost a distant family relative. Which wasen't a lie. Hammy belonged to my MTGO family. He wasen't one of my closest friends but he was family nevertheless.
Josh, this is very touching and coupled with all the others and the comments it made me tear up. The old adage good die young, never really understood it, but guess there is always some truth to those old proverbs.

Thanks for all, man.
You gave me a lot. I gave nothing to you.
I've read your articles in "lurker mode" for years and I've allways enjoyed them.
I've loved your effort.
I've loved your constance.
I've loved your organization.
I've loved your perseverance.
I've loved your humor. Aaaarrrrrrr!!!
Thanks for all.
Rest in Peace.

I am really shocked by this sudden news.
My best wishes go out to Hammy's family.
This is the first death that has made me cry. I'm 21. The world is darker without Hamtastic.
