I was somewhat enjoying your article (seemed more like a rant at times) until you called Modern "Legacy Lite"; I stopped right there in disgust and had to comment.

You are promoting ignorance. Is an orange an "apple lite"? Both are fruits, but they're not the same. Is black "white lite"? Both are colors but they're not the same. The 2 formats are not even remotely similar, other than being non-rotating. Have you even PLAYED any Modern?

I did not finish the article.

Anyone else notice that there is a new format that comes up when you look at the Stats and Format tab of the deck editor? It's called Mentor and I guess it's only available in the new player room. No announcement yet, but it seems to be a format for teaching new players. Great idea.

I can picture Lord Erman summoning Black Djinn of some CMC above 7 and siccing it on Alternate right now.

  • State of the Program for October 14th   13 years 39 weeks ago

adding that percentage takes a bit more work - adds about 20 minutes to 4-7 hours I put into each article. It's been worse lately, since the formats keep changing, but once Wizards firms up the weekly schedule, I may do them again.

Stoney is on the way out, but I make changes to all the tables to add Innistrad, move Scars to Modern or Legacy, and so forth. Eventually.

Email three extra days I can add to this weekend, and I'll get it all done right away. :)

I for one am not huddled in a corner. My decks may not be pro but I am finding at least one that does the control job nicely thanks very much.

Inre Alternate: just stop throwing fuel on the fire Whiffy. And dammit log in as yourself.

A few thoughts on mix masques. I really want the rebels and Lin Sivvi. So to me as long as she's not crazy expensive I'm happy that they are coming earlier than expected and all at once. Especially since I suspect that Nemesis packs would not sell at all.

I loved Masque Block when most people hated it but I never drafted it. Or if I did I have completely erased all memories of it. (I must have done so, huge piles of masques commons were tossed out by me years ago when I was cleaning my apartment. I just don't remember any of it.) I do remember playing in Masques standard.

Unfortunately every time I had an OK deck I'd run into Eric Taylor with a better one. :p

First of all, I never said it was stale. Stale means the same thing for a long time, and it WAS stale before. I like how you guys seemed to change gears and get away from the stale old format, but this week you slipped up and fell back into your old comfort zones of going over the DEs. My comment comes as an alarm bell NOT to lose gained ground and thereby fall back into a staleness. My fear, in short, is that the cast will *become* stale.

Actually, honestly, two DEs fired is precisely the reason not to cover them in such mechanical depth. When Classic is on the upswing, you want to capitalize on that by providing dynamic and engaging coverage. When you say how each week can't have a million things in it AND there are no relevant topics... wow... that's when you have to put your thinking caps on about how to frame the discussion. It's not only about the raw information delivered, but also the framing of how it's delivered.

Lastly, the cast is slightly schizophrenic regarding feedback. On the one hand you have Zach, who is generally open to it, and on the other hand there is George, who is very defensive and argumentative about it. George, you often get your back up over constructive criticism instead of just taking it on board and thinking it over. I don't expect everything I say to be taken as gospel, but I am a listener (and a pretty loyal one considering I have never missed a cast) who is trying to provide feedback to improve the quality and direction of the cast, not a random troll. When people asked for time stamps the first time, you fought with them. I posted the time stamps the following cast, and then you started time stamping afterwards (for a couple episodes) and now someone again is asking for them. People who take time to give feedback often do so because they care, not because they are just trolling. If you want more feedback from the listeners, I think you have to be a little more receptive, and no, receptive doesn't mean accept everything, but at least not get your back up so much. <3

I'm more interested in the theme than recordings. Id prefer a well written report in your usual style.

I had a non-powered vintage deck that was straight mono black Land D.

    4 sinkholes
    4 ports
    4 wastelands
    1 strip mine
    4 rain of tears
4 leeches (whatever the ice age leech was)

I can't remember what it used as a win condition. probably Phyrexian Negator or something like that. it was entertaining.

  • Friday Thoughts #6.   13 years 39 weeks ago

is meant to replace legacy, they are very different. As for the dual land comment:

    Watery Grave = 6.75 -- Undeground Sea = 28.00(why God why???)
    Breeding Pool = 14.00 -- Tropical Island = 18.00
and that's the closest one(that's any good anyway, as far as what I enjoy playing)

  • State of the Program for October 14th   13 years 39 weeks ago

Pete, about the Constructed Tournaments breakdown table, I noticed you stopped putting the total number of scheduled tournament in there. I would love to see it again, is it possible? That was important to understand what a low number of fired tournaments actually means, compared to the expected number.

Also, isn't Stoneforge Mystic obsolete now? She's not a chase card anymore, just a "little more than 1 tix" card, like thousands of others, and that's not going to change soon.

"Building block decks is huddling up in a corner in the fetal position?"

Yeah, that made me laugh (while simultaneously rolling my eyes). I mean, how you are supposed to build MTG decks anymore once you can't put 4 Black Lotuses in them? Like deckbuilding was about being clever and creative and not just putting the most powerful cards together. What, deckbuilders are supposed to be smart, now? Preposterous.

I can picture Lord Erman facepalming very hard right now.

  • State of the Program for October 14th   13 years 39 weeks ago

Are you just going to spout lots of opinions and try to pass them off as facts? As for MTGOTraders missing out, I'm sure they will adjust prices as the market stabilizes..just because you found a couple of dumb or desperate bots and people to make a few extra tix off of doesn't mean they missed out on anything, the damn set has been out for TWO DAYS, there are always idiots out there like you screwing over whoever you can to make a buck or two, which is fine, but don't come in here and try to pass it off as intelligence or prophecy. As for WW, I have been playing with it and against it alot in the last two days and let me tell you it is NOT a T1 deck, granted I am no pro(neither are you) but I have tried about 6 iterations so far with many of the new cards and while WWHuman is decent it is not T1. Monoblack isn't T1 yet either as it lacks a good draw power card and hand disruption is weak at the moment. I pray this changes as I have been playing MBC since $7.50.

I don't know if this self-satisfied delirium is really worth a reply, but just for the sake of it, I'd like to point out that nobody is saying Modern is stupid now. If anything, Modern players were looking forward for the bannings to kick in, in order to brew new decks in what will now very likely be the healthiest and most diverse format of the whole game.

And even pre-bannings, if what you saw was a 3-deck format you either can't count or just didn't read any serious analysis of the metagame (looking at the winners of the very first Modern dailies, PureMTGO writer Andrea Fonseca managed to find 30 different decks). And even the Pro Tour Philadelphia was a battle between 6 decks: 12-post, Zoo, Affinity, Pyromancer, Splinter, Infect Shoal. If I had to be stupid, I could say EVERY format is about the 3 best decks of the moment. Sometimes lesser than that.

So don't expect people to stop flaming you too soon. But I'm sure you know that, since apparently you know everything. Well, good for you, but please don't feel too compelled to share your amazing knowledge next time. Be selfish.

  • State of the Program for October 14th   13 years 39 weeks ago

There are so many annoyingly overpriced commons from that set, I'm excited to see Invigorate go down (and hopefully get banned in Pauper) Snuff Out, Daze, etc. Having fringe Legacy cards like Misdirection, Submerge, and Port doesn't hurt either.

  • Friday Thoughts #6.   13 years 39 weeks ago

I actually love them, sir. I actually commented on the Rebecca Black ref you made on one. Keep them coming. entertainment value is underrated...

    For Tyler-

I thought I saw an eye doctor on an Alaskan island, but it turned out to be an optical Aleutian.

A rubber band pistol was confiscated from algebra class, because it was a weapon of math disruption.

and one can only compete in legacy if they are willing to spend $200 on the manabase alone, $400 for FoWs, and ~$200 for Wastelands...

so a thousand bucks, retail for just this...

While you can get into modern competitively for half that- 8 Rav Duals ~ $150. 4 Goyf -$350

    :)

BTW- Just yankin' your chain. Fact is I am just jealous because I want to play a Legacy deck with 4 FoW...

  • State of the Program for October 14th   13 years 39 weeks ago

I'd love to play port and dustbowl in one deck alongside strip mine and wasteland. It will probably be EDH, not classic or legacy though :(

Mono-Black is not very good right now. WW is probably fine, tier 1.5ish, which is kind of a wash between your idea that it is tier one and everyone who says it's bad.

Building block decks is huddling up in a corner in the fetal position?
    I'm confused.

Your posts make less sense since I've quit drinking.

  • State of the Program for October 14th   13 years 39 weeks ago

"Masques is going to make Rishidan Port insane. I have it above Wasteland because it was a part of every deck. But just read Dustbowl. It's really good in Classic.

But wow. I said Modern was stupid and was flamed by everyone that had hands to type. Now everyone is saying the same and it's ok? I guess I'm just an innovator.

When it comes to Innistrad, MTGOTraders really missed out. You were buying Saint of Geist for 10, but another bot above it was buying it for 13. The same goes for the foiled Lilliana I pulled, the foiled Mickaeus (however you spell it), Kessig Wolf Run, and sold my packs for 5 a piece.

But let me just quote myself in what I said about Modern:

"I don't feel like paying $200 for lands and there are only like 3 decks. It's stupid". And I was flamed like there was no tomorrow. I must be a god damn prophet.

And way to get those videos of the pre-release online. I already have 2 done and putting my third on Youtube. It's not like I have gotten a massive amount of views or anything because people want to watch some pre-release videos online before they do it on MTGO.

But I think another Whiffy Penguin video of him playing classic based around fetch lands and Force of Will is really interesting.

**And one massive laugh at all the people who are trying to build INN block decks and new standard decks. Now that there are no more fetch lands and they lost the decks they have been playing for a year, they are all huddled in a corner in the fetal position dreaming up new control. Well guess what, if you are smart, you would know that the deck that will win almost every STD tournament to date is Mono-Red. Solar Flare, or Rainbow Alliance as I like to call it is terrible. I would know, I played it multiple times. Mono-Black gets no love yet it's beast mode

And oh yeah, to all my "fans", just look at tournament decks.
    1) What deck is getting a lot of "Tier 1" love? White Weenie. The deck you called garbage flightless bird.

2)What is a card that is getting main-decked.........

NIHIL SPELLBOMB. Oh snap! You just got served once again. I hate penguins anyway. I hope you weren't fed the same way a baby penguin is bud."

uhm. you continue to just make things up. Port is part of 2, TWO comp legacy decks. goblins and lands. wasteland is part of dozens of legacy comp decks. Dustbowl has seen virtualy no play in years. port will be a bit player in legacy, possibly classic shop decks. dustbowl will not see any play in classic at all. so your wrong there.

Im also pretty sick of your attacks for no reason. whay are you even bringing my name up?Im not sure what your deal is but i would kindly ask that you leave me out of your posts.

and speaking of white weeine? post results of how this is a teir one deck. pretty sure that the philly grudge match and the two scg opens prove that it is not a real deck.

It would be kind of nice if you just dissapeared from this site.

    - one flightless bird.

But I unloaded my Invigorates and Dazes on Sunday before the announcment. Pretty sure those dropped.

Pete- I think one thing that might be interesting for a week (like a feature), is if you priced commons this way for Pauper players. Or uncommons would get the "third set" discussion going (*cough*dismember*cough*)....

    Just a suggestion.

  • Conqueror & Commander, Vol. LXIX: Braids, Conjurer Adept   13 years 39 weeks ago

Hey, that's an interesting idea. I will definitely think about some sort of deckbuilding challenge. In the meantime I know that the Commander PRE on the weekend changes up their challenge every week. I think last week you weren't allowed to have colorless mana symbols in your cards. Interesting. I would link to it but I'm on my phone.

As for recording games, aside from the technical aspects (which I currently know nothing about) it takes a certain type of personality to keep people interested for up to 2 hours. I know that I have tried to sit through recorded games before, and it's tough. I will think about this too.

If people like this idea or have others, feel free to speak up! I'm always willing to listen.
