• Increasing Ambition: Attempting Endless 4-Pack Sealed   12 years 48 weeks ago

    Hi Superdax,

I do in fact sell all of the sellable cards I get from limited tournaments, as I don't play in any competitive constructed formats (yet!). Another approach that you can take if you are running well enough is to save 1 card of each set to redeem for a paper set. I've done this in the past and it's a great way to have something to show for your efforts.

Hi, I really liked your article. Short and sweet. But doing this without taking any money out means you sell your Rare and mythic each time your finished with the sealed?

Hope to read what was your numbers next week

Kara, the beta sneak peek ended today. So if you were trying to get on, it was closed. I suspect you clicked on a MTGO_net.exe shortcut mistakenly instead of the beta client shortcut.

Also today MTGO III had an update requiring the usual kicker.exe update. (Find it in your Magic Online III folder)

Typically you only need to run the kicker once every few weeks since even though we have maintenance every week we don't always have an update.

WotC is doing what they can to steer people away from calling the new client v4. But, version numbers not withstanding, the current client really is already 3.5. Go back and compare what we have now to what was first available when they pulled the plug on 2.5. That and the new client is a completely different platform and design, it's definitely a full version increment.

  • Freed From The Real #180: New Client, Old Problem   12 years 48 weeks ago

Well I guess I'm still frustrated. I tried logging on today but it said I'm running an old version of the client and I had to run "the kicker." I have no idea what is meant by that. Behavior like this from Wizards really makes me question whether they have the best interests of the players at heart. How am I supposed to know what to do if I can't even follow their instructions?

That Rock article was hilarious to read from a 2012 point of view. Man, Morphling was still "the best creature ever made" back then. :)
I'd still say: if it ain't BG, it ain't Rock. Anything more than that would be something DERIVED from Rock. Like Gifts Rock, for instance, which got a whole new life now that Gifts can essentially put a creature directly into the battlefield via Unburial Rites. Jund might be a descendant of Rock, but it's very different, both to play with and against. In fact, it isn't called Rock at all. White elements also take it into another direction. But I guess Doran Rock is a viable moniker.
I recently tried out a next-level traditional Rock in Eurodrive!, ending 2nd place I believe. Thrun is what Spiritmonger was in the old deck, and more. Maelstrom Pulse is there in place of Pernicious Deed: not as good, but quite.

You know what these articles could use? Videos! Now, if only someone provided you with them. :P

Glad you liked it, Keya! We missed your presence. What would make it worth your while?

  • Freed From The Real #180: New Client, Old Problem   12 years 49 weeks ago

I feel your frustration and I get what you mean about not wanting to be nice when you're mad but I am fairly results oriented about this kind of thing. If you are pissing people off (via rudeness, yelling, etc) they won't pay you any mind and then you aren't getting the results that you want.

I am optimistic that they ARE paying attention though (and I hope grokking) since a lot of erudite individuals have made their opinions known on the forums. Lets hope the v4 (or v3.5 according to some) client does get some positive changes made so that we haven't all wasted our time.

Anyway thanks for listening and commenting!

I listened to my first podcast of this series today. I didn't like when you guys were saying that you should be polite and articulate when you encounter a problem that really puts you off. For me, I'm consuming their product and if they're not smart enough to create and/or maintain the client in such a way that lets me have if not an optimal experience at least a decent one, then I'm going to be angry. I'll leave magic (for a while anyway) if the frustration outweighs the enjoyment. I simply don't want to be an unpaid Wizards employee telling them everything they need to do when they can't figure it out for themselves. That is beyond annoying.

Thanks for entertaining me on my flight home guys!

While I like the new price point, a core set full of reprints makes it not worth my while to prerelease.

Don't worry about naysayers. Your articles are great. I love to follow the way you are tweaking your decks, but I also love to see new decks. Great job.

  • Anything But - The Rogue You're Not Playing #1   12 years 49 weeks ago

Not sarcasm. Just like rerepete said, most mtg players cannot spell rogue (doubly funny if their rogue deck is boros)

  • Freed From The Real #180: New Client, Old Problem   12 years 49 weeks ago

Well you can tell I was a newb to this with all the "Ums and ahs", etc. But this was a lot of fun to do. Thanks for having me on AJ.

  • Anything But - The Rogue You're Not Playing #1   12 years 49 weeks ago

Many times the word rogue is wrongly typed as rouge. The spell checker would not catch this as rouge is also a word (make-up for adding a rosy color to the cheeks)

MBeasley says some things that seem deliberately dumb at times but his commentary on the fetch lands was not. He was saying in effect that there aren't any alternatives to the fetch lands (as for example Wilds does not fetch duals) so they are in fact a good investment (long haul wise). Whether this will be born out in time remains to be seen. I'm inclined to agree in this instance though.

  • Freed From The Real #180: New Client, Old Problem   12 years 49 weeks ago

I will not be in the pre release. It is not worth it at all. I did pre on the last 3 sets and regret them all. I can wait. I might if there was a sweet promo, but there isn't.

sarcasim? o.O I tried my damnedest to spell check it, which is my biggest failing lol

  • Return to Ravnica: Information & Speculation   12 years 49 weeks ago

I suspected that that would be a problem with the Mirrodin Besieged prerelease, but it turned out that people chose sides pretty much down the middle in that event, per Mark Rosewater.

I bet that they were willing to take a risk on the guild thing because of the success of the Mirrodin Besieged prerelease and the fact that people split so evenly between Mirrodin and Phyrexia.

With that said, there is a huge difference between two sides and five, and there is a high likelihood that there will be some guilds that end up overrepresented. However, surely each store will only have a certain number of each guild pack, and if you don't sign up early, you probably just won't get the guild pack that you want.

  • State of the Program for July 20th   12 years 49 weeks ago

actually, i made a fair amount of TIX on the SOM lands - but I only sold half my stock before the prices dropped. Now I am holding them until next Modern season. They should rebound.

Everything I bought was based on rcommendation from readers - including you.

BTW, you cannot fetch shocklands with Evolving Wilds: basic lands only.

  • State of the Program for July 20th   12 years 49 weeks ago

I know that you can make money if you find two or more bots with significantly different prices, and sell between them. That is similar to finding players who don't know the value of cards, and trading with them. Profitable, at least annecdotally, but that is not what I am testing.

I'm testing the theory that you can buy cards as investments, let them rise in value and then sell them for a profit. Different question.

  • Anything But - The Rogue You're Not Playing #1   12 years 49 weeks ago

+1 for spelling rogue correctly :P

  • Freed From The Real #180: New Client, Old Problem   12 years 49 weeks ago

Why is everyone calling new client v4 ,when it'll actually be v3.5?
