• Scoop Phase - Elf-D   15 years 13 weeks ago

First of really enjoyed the article and game vids.

But is your sideboard deck not actually stronger than your start deck?
Losing game 1 and then taking out the LD package for the stronger elf list, means you have to come good on games 2 & 3.

Also, against Affinity would siding in the Naturalizes alone not give you 4 more land destruction spells, and maybe allow you to stick to your LD gameplan?

    hey paul

No offense in my words (or maybe some written english mistakes that i didnt see). The aim of my post was only to say that eternal must be supported by all the community as they have a primordial role into mtg, and we are all loving this game for what it was, is or will be. To me, the message should not be "we observe that classic is dying" but "hey guys, we are scared that this format could die. Support it and play it !". I am ever sad to see a format disappearing and always happy to see some appearing. But to me the most important of them are eternal format for the reasons i explained in my previous post

Yeah but in a classic tournament the card you're tutoring for probably isn't.

Pedantic note: Demonic Consultation is less than 2 a ticket.

I have found that it takes a great deal of skill to pilot eternal decks in a tournament setting. When your opponent can counter your spell even while tapped out or might create 20 zombies on turn two, every decision you make is important and there is no room for error. You have to know possible contents of decks you've never played and anticipate cards that aren't on the board yet. And you can't always trust that the cards in your hand this turn will be there next turn, so you've got to be able to determine the best plays and have alternate plans. Anyone who has gone off with Ad Naus Tendrils and miscounted so their opponent survives, or killed themselves by bringing out too many Dark Confidants, or exiled their combo pieces with Demonic Consultation will tell you that just buying expensive cards is not enough.

Agreed that people with powered decks shouldn't beat up on casual players.

And for you sir, welcome to the world of Pauper magic.

I agree with you fully, getting your bottom smacked by a guy packing nothing but expensive rares is no fun at all.

But if you play competitive Magic, then you kind of expect it.

My gripe comes from the so called "Casual" room. Where originality and the ability to try things out, gets squashed by netdeckers whose wallet is bigger than their imagination.

However I would love to be the guy with all the rares... but I have a mortgage and a wedding to pay for.

when magic is more about power and less about skill, something is wrong. when to even compete you must own hundreds of dollars in cards, something is wrong. and when people associate price with skill, something is most certainly wrong. no one will argue that magic isn't a game of skill, but surely you cannot feel good about beating someone if you won merely by outspending them. to me, at least, the less powerful the cards, the more skill it takes to play them. perhaps power is a way to accommodate for a lack of skill.

either way, good bye classic.. i hope vintage is not far behind.

Why are people being so offensive? its just a podcast. yea it may not have been the best quality, or had opinions that you do not share, but comon telling them to quit or trying to get them fired? stop being childish. how bout if you hate them so much you just not listen anymore?

As for classic, yea its taking a huge hit. but as this forumn clearly shows, it has support from the players and the weekend status is nothing new to us. yes it sucks that the format is being downgraded, but ill bet a huge percentage of regular players love the idea of 24 min, 6 tix, stable time slot. i know i do. and ill play all the legacy i can as well.

the format is in the same place it was last month, just with less visibility. know if we dont have a perfect mirror to vintage minus the power 9, then yea i cant see it coming out of its dormancy. if we do get everything though it will be vastly different enough to have more support and maybe even be called vintage. if they give us power 9 in med4 or a box set expect prices of all classic cards to soar as every one wants to sling moxen and by association other legacy banned cards.

you guys are great, keep it up.

You know, I think we need a petition to ban pointless petitions.

    www.petitiononline.com/PtlssPettnsdie/petition.html

(tried to Rick Roll that one, but the editor won't let me embed a different URL.)

Or maybe just a petition to require identification and end anonymous posts on the website. Anonymous posts are creating firestorms in the forums all over the place. I really don't see any reason / benefit to allowing them anymore.

I Personally took 16th in this tourney Running MBC because it had a good match up vs slivers which i bleved would abundant and didnt wish to face mirror matches all day(and i was right) , However vslo did run my personal slivers list that i gave him and ran it to a 34th place finish.

wow how clever....and anonymous is always less than me. I may not be the mostliked person based on some of my opinions but at least I have the moral fortitude to post them under my actual name instead of hiding behind my computer screen.

  • Freed from the Real #57: Legacy, in the study, with a candlestick...   15 years 13 weeks ago

yeah some cards shoot up into the stratosphere pricewise in a tourney deck and are then clamored after by casual players long after said deck is no longer popular...

  • Ten Reasons Why MTGO is Better than Real Life Magic   15 years 13 weeks ago

i personally have beef with the shuffler. just finished a draft. i had 2 lands in my opening hand and went without one for 16 draws then 14 remaining lands were next in a row. with that and my misclicks(irun on 3g mobile) i cant win:(

Hey LOurs, long time no see. I really am taken aback by the response to what seemed like fairly innocuous comments about the format. Really I don't think anyone was dancing on classic's grave or doing any thing else really disrespectful in regards to it's downfall. Whether or not Classic ceases to exist is not up to those commenting and honestly how can you think they mean it in malicious way? Personally I agree that peace and respect are key to any adult endeavor but I also think BOTH require active participation and effort to maintain. Not taking offense where really none was meant is a first step. Tough to do I know...everything tends to get oversized on the internet.

  • Freed from the Real #57: Legacy, in the study, with a candlestick...   15 years 13 weeks ago

Price tanking is a slow process. Cards rocket up when they fit into a winning deck, but even when that deck fades from prominence through rotation or format change the cards take a while to drop. Give it a few weeks and the price will meander down.

  • Basics of Drafting - Cutting Colors   15 years 13 weeks ago

I don't know if this is just the magic online community, magic players in general, or internet users in general, but I am horrified at how rude people are to each other - on both sides of this issue. I think everyone should probably take a big, deep breath and relax.

Honestly speaking, I didn't think this was a great example of cutting a color, but that's just my opinion. I've pulled this off and then the very next draft taken a 6th pick hideous end which turned out to be a fluke.

I wasn't offended by "idiots" - I was thinking the same thing when I saw that pick! It was meant in humour I am sure.

I am shocked at Pete's response in the comments though. It's hard to have a tough skin when so many people are flaming you, but in my opinion you can't feed the trolls or they keep coming back for more.

Pete - I hope you don't quit writing, you do a fine job and hopefully this blows over quickly.
