    shhh....

I love the idea of leagues.

I strongly dislike the idea of simply cracking packs outside of a draft or sealed deck tournament. I am probably not the only one who feels this way.

Have you considered the idea of players taking a screen shot of the first pick of a pack in a draft and using the contents of that pack as one of their packs for the league? This would make it a lot easier for many budget-minded players to join.

I realize that this could lead to cherry picking packs, but there is not much preventing that now, if players want to start cracking some of the higher expected value packs like Tempest (with Wa$teland being an uncommon)

By the way, beware the small sets. All Morningtide or all Eveningtide decks can get pretty broken, pretty quickly.

Nice deck and I agree with most of your picks, but about deckbuilding, you're running 2 ondu giants and a growth spasm. When you picked the Drana I understand it was a hate draft because she can single handedly wreck matches, but when you picked up the back to back ondus, my first thought was nice you can splash the Drana, so what was your reason for not splashing her. I understand it was a double black casting cost, but you got 3 land searchers and she pretty much is game over as her only removal is really heat ray and flame sash. Narcolepsy and guard duty still allow you to use her removal.

  • Tribal Apocalypse: Burn Em If You Got Em   15 years 6 days ago

and as i mentioned my deck is probally the only one that has a chance in other formats such as legacy as it's specifically built to make removal more or less dead cards in an opponents hand.

Kaladines deck here is hardly "fast" the only plays it has till turn 3 are L-bolt,gorilla tatics,Lasher, and Harbinger. None of these putting any real pressure on the board With maybe the exception of lasher if u were expecting to use lifegain. After turn 3 he's not going to be casting multiple spells per turn and this all assumes he hit 3 lands by turn 3.

However lookin back at the past 6 tournaments not including the pauper and spirit ones. Yes i can see a trend of burn like red decks winning and can understand the resentment from that, but i still stand that Kaladines deck was actually a very fair and innovative deck and should be shown the respect its earned.

So would I, but as a budget article it wasn't an option. Vengevines are pushing $40 and Survivals are as well. Running Glimpse is something I've been considering though.

  • Rogue Play - Seven Deadly Sins, Part VII   15 years 6 days ago

great stuff and congrats on the job! I have to say I love the blightning deck and cant wait to give it a run

  • The Coalition League   15 years 6 days ago

I love leagues, and I will definitely be playing this starting next pay day. :) Right now I'm thinking Ravnica block all the way, love that set!

  • Semi Pro - Budgeting Your Way Into Legacy With Aggro Elves   15 years 6 days ago

theres a new age of elves coming around that I've seen a couple times with Survival and Venges + elves, even the "older" version of elves was more with glimpse and 1x grape, dont take this wrong, but lookin through this is nice and all, but I think id rather play one of those versions

  • The Coalition League   15 years 6 days ago

I'm really interested and despite a new busy schedule I'm going to do my damnedest to get in on this, I've already been plotting packs since you told me about it

I would agree that the snow thing is something to decide because if you can bring in snow lands like basics then it makes coldsnap a lot more favorable and you'd be better equipped to put together the snow control build, the lack of snow lands really made it a harder set to draft, but on the other side since it isn't a draft you'd have very few snow lands available so no one would be likely to open cold snap for this

also I saw theres like 40 people in the group, is this like really what the numbers are going to be like? it'd be awesome if it gets this kind of community support in numbers

  • Semi Pro - Budgeting Your Way Into Legacy With Aggro Elves   15 years 6 days ago

Yes, reanimator is an issue. Once I make the jump to NO Elves I'll have a couple outs like Duplicant and Ulamog in the board, but, it's still rough. Landstill is also an issue for sure. My best bet is to have the grip ready on turn two and hope he doesn't followup with a second deed.

    Glad you liked it!

  • The Coalition League   15 years 6 days ago

I can almost assure you that allowing unlimited snow lands would result in Coldsnap decks dominating your league.

  • Semi Pro - Budgeting Your Way Into Legacy With Aggro Elves   15 years 6 days ago

Seemed to me the Thresh player cracked his EE prematurely. 2 decks in the meta that I think you will have a problem with are Reanimator and Landstill. Reanimator for obvious reasons, easily can shut down mono green with or without the GY. Landstill runs board sweepers like deed which would be far worse than EE.

Nice article, videos were sweet, maybe I should try videos in my articles sometimes eh.

  • Fun with Vanguard #37: Getting Fisty   15 years 6 days ago

not only have I always wanted to play with Imp's Mischief I'm the only one I've ever seen actually do so, glad someone else is throwing it out there, def a big fan of SuiBlack so I'm liking that list with a few changes

  • Tribal Apocalypse: Burn Em If You Got Em   15 years 6 days ago

"Why innovate if it's always a monored fast damage deck that wins, regardless of what you call it or what it qualifies as?"

    exactly

  • Semi Pro - Budgeting Your Way Into Legacy With Aggro Elves   15 years 6 days ago

The ESG's missing from the list were accidental, and I'm still running them and am quite happy. The Chokes are gone. They were fantastic for that one game but no where during testing.

In lieu of new information, the deck will almost certainly shift to NO Elves now.

  • A Look At Legacy: Exploring the Depths   15 years 6 days ago

Ahhh ha, knew I forgot about something. Oh well, gatekeeper ftw.

  • Semi Pro - Budgeting Your Way Into Legacy With Aggro Elves   15 years 6 days ago

Yep, Natural Order was 46 tix a piece last week, so a playset would have been just shy of $200. This is great though, I may finally get to play NO Elves :D

Also, yes, Link to the Past is amazing (I'm staring at the cartridge right now and I have the emulator on my Droid) however before the N64 came out I never owned a copy. So, OoT was the first Zelda game that was "mine", well that and the NES original one, but to be honest I was using my NES strictly for Shadowgate at the time!

  • The Coalition League   15 years 6 days ago

I am totally interested in doing this. Can't wait to put my deck together.

  • The Coalition League   15 years 6 days ago

i would be careful with that one flippers. I know in all the constructed limited events i played with coldsnap, they limited you to the snow lands you opened.

  • Freed from the Real #69: Geopede in my corn flakes!   15 years 6 days ago

FOW hit 60!!!! crap! shuld have bought in. oh well. i get too tied up into charts and speculation and all that. still waiting to crack my first jace 2.0, 200 packs+ now...

  • Semi Pro - Budgeting Your Way Into Legacy With Aggro Elves   15 years 6 days ago

Natural Order were about 40 each last week

  • Standard Pauper Deck Tech #3: Prismatic Rioters   15 years 1 week ago

At one point you could have gone Skyfisher, bounce the plains, replay the plains, play another Skyfisher, bounce the Mnemonic Wall and get back Flame Slash next turn. And what's the deal with not playing Rioters any sooner and put some pressure on him?

  • The Coalition League   15 years 1 week ago

That's an interesting point i'd say snow basics are ok as they are basic lands and it makes a lot of the Coldsnap cards more playable

  • The Coalition League   15 years 1 week ago

Sounds like a blast! I'll see what I can put together.
