I would abuse the hell out of forced aether in casual. It might even be good enough to abuse in tourney decks, though that would seem to be unlikely since its mana cost is perfect.
Best combo with it? How about paradox haze and senseis divining top :) and some fattys...progenitus and emrakul?
Hey Blau welcome back! :) I stopped doing the CCC because I found it consumed a large amount of my time but I do endorse it and people should try out the various contests there because you never know. In any given month the theme may really strike a bell and inspire something beyond the ordinary. Thanks for the lesson! :)
Was definitely a misplay, which I am not immune to. Sometimes I get impatient and play horribly, but that is what dissection is for. BTW stop using CME tag and use your name.....
Still watching round 1, but you playing Essence Flare on your own guy looked really strange and was prolly terrible, even if you don't click through the attack. The damage that early is not worth the disadvantage. It's funny that you are still going to win that match, but if your opponent doesnt't understand activated abilites, I guess that is what has to happen.
perhaps i should have worded that jace allows you to "see more cards" in your deck. and each mechanic creates a most reusable advantage. most people would call it putting something on a stick. well jace has 3 abilities on one stick. tied in w/ the fact that there is minimal direct pwalker removal.
I hear ya in regards to the avatars. That was just ridiculous, and I still, to this day, can't believe they gave out such a huge payout.
But perhaps this new reward is more geared towards the new blood rather than the old. All players new to MTGO in the past few months or past year will definitely have opened and play the PW format already, so it's really no skin off of their backs.
Well, so much for all the "experts" who said they wouldn't ban Jace, The Mind Sculptor or Stoneforge Mystic.
They would and they did. I see the prices for those cards have dropped in a big way. Seems like a good time to pick up a few for formats other than Standard.
Maybe we'll have an uptick in the number of people showing up for FNM now that they don't have to face Jace four or five times in a row (after July 1st, of course).
I stand on the side of the people who suggest that mythics should be restricted in Standard. When I see decks stacked with mythic rares I think of the old days when decks started out with one of every card on the restricted list and then built around them.
As for the subject of card advantage, card advantage and the total number of cards in hand are not the same thing, not even close. It doesn't matter how many cards you hold in your hand if you are in an unwinnable position.
Kiritz said it best when he called it "Caveman Magic". All that shuffling and card flipping and awkward priority passing... you might as well turn off the lights, sit around a fire and shout "Unga Bunga"
I played paper drafts a handful of times over the last few years, however the commander product and the experience at card kingdom has me hooked again. there is a strong commander group at my local shop so it all works out, going there tomorrow, see if im a local celebrity. ha
First and foremost: CONGRATULATIONS! So cool. It makes me want to get out there and community lead just for a chance to do this. ;-)
Ok, another question nagging me... were you into paper prior to this event and are you more interested in playing paper after the event? Are you going to look for a Commander playgroup back home (etc.)?
You are forgetting the prizes/promotions for the past 2 Community Cups weren't a free copy of a useless common.
Two years ago, we got a free Momir tourney, where the prizes were TONS of avatars of your choice (back when there were some avatars worth 20 tix each), and grabbing 6 of them was ridiculously easy (I never played Momir before, and got my 6 avatars totaling 40-50 tix of value). The best players were able to grab a number of avatars worth hundreds and hundreds of tix. (This is in fact the event that annihilated the value of the rarest avatars).
Last year, we got 3 free Mirrodin boosters. That's absolutely less than the previous avatar feast, but way more than a single M11 booster (which is worth 3 tix). Also, you didn't have to do nothing, you just had your 3 boosters delivered at your account. As a bonus, youd could use them in a free draft.
Call me ungrateful, but a free M11 with a mandatory Planeswalker tournament attached (where only 4-0 players are rewarded) just doesn't feel the same to me. It feels more like a way for WoTC to have players buy PW products from the store (since that's the only place where you can buy them).
With this progression, if the Community Team will win again next year, they'll take 10 tix out of every account. :)
LE your articles each seem to surpass their predecessors! :) Your daughter is a beautiful copy of yourself. Love the decks.
Thanks man :) I'll try to get better moving forward
Interesting article.

Much better.
After watching it completely I def want a new name for the show - drafting with Zach and fam or something like that ;)
Other cards affected by the ban hammer announcement: Batterskull (down a lot), Avenger of Zendikar (up a lot).

Would make it hard to read the cards though :p.

Anyways I make some redeeming plays later on..

Looking back, it's just funny seeing these comments about how big Jace won't be banned.

Hey George,
I couldn't help feel like I was their with you through portions of the video.
That looks like you had a great time.
Congrats on the victory

Don't worry. The 'War of Attrition' event deck is still legal in Legacy if you keep it intact out of the box. ;)
mayb u should reprint my article :-)
i told you so...

Careful you might end up being me. :/
Looked like an awesome time with some awesome people!
