So in response to the comment on yso, I plain ol just never even thought about using gush. I dont see how it could be a terrible card, so i will try it out :)
That will take some time to come to fruition I guess. I first have to try not to be too conscious of being accountable to others in recorded matches. @_@
1. Yawgmoth's will
2. Tinker
3. Force of Will
4. Mishra's Workshop
5. Bazaar of Baghdad
6. Time Vault
7. Gush
8. Dark Confidant
9. Sol Ring
10. Demonic Tutor
Just pointing out that I'm not a fan of oath of druids as a strategy.
Also, my article just somewhere below has a classic green sun zenith deck that I worked on in the past which should still be playable today. It relies on gush as an engine to push out more threats and uses green sun's zenith to push out key creatures that easily take over without having them clog up much when they are useless.
I'm curious as to why the green sun zenith list and the cliqeuarator (from last week) don't play gush which is able to provide some card volume needed to beat the matchup the bolts are designed to help in. Why I say that is because card advantage plays a big role when u're actively trading 1 for 1 or 2 for 1 or worse, when u have dead cards.
I must admit, I'm kind of sad that we only have one top 10 list in the comments. Come on Classic guys, put up you lists and we can compile them all into YSO 35. Would like at least 6 more people to participate!
Yeah, sadly there just aren't enough in the system. CSP came out a little after dissension and a little before Time Spiral. So you're draft choices were:
RGD
TTT
or
CCC
and CCC was a lame draft. If Nats that year didn't have coldsnap drafts, rite of flame would prolly be $10.
We can only wait and see how the new b&r list enhances control decks. We do need it to keep the format healthy and the players interested. Too much of one thing is bad.
Survive? I am pretty sure control decks do quite well surviving in unknown metas. ("No!" is usually generically good.) The question is will they thrive? And if not then why bother? If the top tier of decks does not contain a Control deck (other than the RU combo decks with control elements) that means only that control decks aren't favored by top players. It does not mean they can't survive or even do better than average.
It is true that knowing the meta makes defining a top tier control deck easier. And it is possible once the most correct control plays have been seen for Modern (as it stands assuming no unbannings and expecting only 1 or 2 additions to the list) that a top tier control deck will emerge.
Counter Cats has the possibility of morphing into a more control oriented archetype as do the UR combo decks. In addition Fae has been noticeably absent. I wouldn't count that completely out.
Now that the initial wave of top decks has been established those trying to break into the top (PTQs/GPs etc) will try and brew decks that kill those decks or at least make them uncomfortable. (CF: Lord Erman's latest article.)
Correct me if im wrong, but arent control decks only able to survive in a "known-meta".
Which leads me to the question, do the nonexistent control decks stand a chance because of the meta being more defined after the pt?

Lol yes, this guy was really good when mbs first cameout seeing that there were more playable metalcraft decks with 2 packs of scars. Thats when he sort of broke out. He's almost easier to splash with nph cuz wellspring.
When you aleady have a well spring and you get passed that guy Its like the finding the holy grail. Hes also a late game card so you get 12-13 cards into your deck before you need a forest to cast him as well.
I also have 57 of them in my collection from drafting.
Yeah, I brainfart a lot when I am picking cards. The title "Limited Abilities" is semantically multi-layered. One of the layers this references is that I NEVER drafted until my recent conversion to digital gun slinging.
I am really liking it though and feel like I am getting the hang of it.
I like instrumental music, and Ghosts I-IV was brilliant.
I can agree though. Since he has gone independent (no more interscope or atlantic), it seems that he has been releasing more of his own flavor of music rather than just stuff with mass appeal.
Good business decision? Maybe not...
Great demonstration of musical talent/ability to make composition? You bet'cha.
Korn is from Bakersfield, CA. My in-laws live there and I have had the "pleasure" of getting to know Bakersfield.
I often joke to people that my personal hell is having to live in Bakersfield listening to Korn on Buck Owens Drive for eternity...
When I was a kid, I went into a CD store and I wanted to get the new Limp Bizkit CD, but because it had the sticker "explicit lyrics" I instead bought the first Korn CD. Way to go mom.
And Trent Reznor is a god. I have seen him live 3 times and NIN is one of the best bands ever. Too bad Reznor has gone a little nuts lately and has released some WEIRD stuff.
"Erik noticed this right away, and decreed that Innistrad Limited would be significantly slower than Magic 2012. While there are cards in the set that support very aggressive strategies, those strategies are the exception rather than the rule. The Werewolves needed time to breathe, players needed time to get enough mana to pay expensive flashback costs, and horror movies need time to build up to their exciting parts. It was also nice, as previously mentioned, to provide a contrast to Magic 2012's speed."
From the Mothership today. Talks about the speed of the limited format.

3) Mishra's Workshop
4) Lotus Petal
5) Bazaar

7) Tinker
8) Mana Crypt
9) Time Vault

I'm kind of surprised how few people have Brainstorm in their lists -- there's a reason every single deck that runs blue has 4x of the card.

What was the $33 Standard deck anyone? Interest is seriously piqued...
One of those Dissension Jace's..I didn't even know Planeswalkers were around back then, he must be uber powerful.. :-P ...
Good article Mr. Jahn, thanks as always.
I think videos from you would be very good beacause your a very serious player and a good one.

I'd just like to add that Rite of Flame is insanely high in mtgotraders now. Last time I checked it was $5. For a common, that's pretty insane.

Good. I like slower draft formats. Based on the spoilers that have happened since this article, I am going to like this format.
Thanks

You'll regret selling those Null Rods for $4600. They're only going to go up.
