100% agree with this. You said it before I could. This petty bickering is basically only serving to entertain those who enjoy a fight. Well said!

Whiffy, this will probably get lost in the shuffle, but next time, just rise above. Responding to his foolishness in kind does nothing to help your cause.

I would take that message down or edit it out, I can almost guarantee it is sending a type of message you don't want to convey.

At least some good came from this article, I now know there is a rating system.

I much prefer Elspeth... I only recently got back into magic, and played real life back in Revised/3rd Ed days - what was great about those collections there is that there were very few cards that were superior on their own and won you a game regardless of the rest of your deck. With few exceptions of course, and those did get restricted or banned.

Elspeth is feeds into a deck idea nicely, whereas Gideon will be great without requiring much cohesion in your deck.

I very happily drafted an Elesh Norn last week, I love her but my goodness is she overpowered and unimaginative. Any deck with white she'll go in, regardless of concept. I think most planeswalkers suffer from this disconnect.

Ok so first of all I am going to try and spell correctly since it is so terrible for you.

Thank you also for saying that I make videos because I can't spell. I am writing in the comments of a forum, I clean up my spelling and such for published articles, which are at or above 50.

No one is forcing me to read your completely inappropriate comments about 9/11? The focking article opens with your tribute to one of the most heinous acts in american history. It is hard to avoid reading it if you give 0 warning to the fact that your spewing garbage from your mouth. Did it ever occur to you that OTHER people may have known or had loved ones that died in the attack? Did it occur to you that a simple gaming site and article should not stir up painful memories? What the fock dude. You are a piece of garbage, not for writing it, but for completely losing your sh!t when your READERS say that they did not like some of your content. You were worried about the content, and told Heath to take it out if he wanted? Dosen't that mean that somewhere in your pea brained size head that you knew this was a hot button? I guess if you had not dropped out of college you may have learned this, but who needs school, obviously your rich from your super awesome ability to play the stock market. Congratulations your not only a piece of crap, your a rich stupid piece of crap. Bravo.

I wont touch on the fact that you have completely no idea what your talking about in regards to Classic, Legacy, or Modern, because Walker Dog already called you out on that sh!t. I will say that your lack of knowledge is pretty disturbing if your trying to write a speculation articles. You know what you need to speculate well and for profit? FORMAT KNOWLEDGE. Play with your zombies and your white weeinies and then tell me how i can trade them away for tarmogoyfs, that would be worth reading.

You seem to think that because people don't like what they read, that gives you free will to call them, Idiots, Fools, and what ever other deragotory statements you have made in your comments.

Also what the fock bro, you give your self a 5ball to even out the comments of your readers? your readers do not think you deserve a 5ball, they think that you primarily deserve a 1 or 2 ball. I guess that dosen't matter though, integrety be damned, your going to ignore your audience and give yourself an what ever you want.

I thought i was abrasive but you take the focking cake, you are the worst troll i have ever seen on this site. You berate , and mudsling at your readers because they are honest with you. Real classy.

I would continue with this, but you are thick headed and most likely wont even come up with anything intelligble besides "I am right, all you fockers are wrong, blah blah blah."

Heath and the editor of pure, I hope that you will not let this missing link write for the site any more, he has shown that he can not take critisism and he has thrown harsh language and berated your readers because he is butt hurt.

I will say that the one good thing to come out of this article, is that future new writers will learn WHAT NOT TO DO, from your example.

    Go fock yourself,
    George Efelis

Edit. I am well aware that this post may get removed or may even get me banned from the site, this is how strongly I feel though about how poorly this author has reacted to critisism. I hope I am not banned, that does not mean I will change it though.

Yeah sorry but my life revolves around more than a tragedy from ten years ago. I mean i had plenty of other things going on last sunday, like edh league, sunday funday at the bar, and some other stuff. Sorry I didnt remember something that really has had no affect on my life from what i can tell.

    Make it so...

"We had two bags of grass, seventy-five pellets of mescaline, five sheets of high-powered blotter acid, a saltshaker half-full of cocaine, and a whole galaxy of multi-colored uppers, downers, screamers, laughers... Also, a quart of tequila, a quart of rum, a case of beer, a pint of raw ether, and two dozen amyls. Not that we needed all that for the trip, but once you get locked into a serious drug collection, the tendency is to push it as far as you can. The only thing that really worried me was the ether. There is nothing in the world more helpless and irresponsible and depraved than a man in the depths of an ether binge, and I knew we'd get into that rotten stuff pretty soon."

  • Speculation 101: The Process, and the Rebirth of White Weenie   13 years 43 weeks ago

This is exactly why I've enjoyed these 2 posts from the author... because I'd love to find a way to get in on these little trades to help cover my new drafting habit - I don't ever want to be a serious player or speculator, and I've only seen speculating articles on the top end of town.

All the other stuff being posted, well, it is the internet - get roped in or walk away. I've found no one wins getting involved :)

  • Speculation 101: The Process, and the Rebirth of White Weenie   13 years 43 weeks ago

Yeah, I understand. That's why I wrote about the white weenie deck.

What people haven't gotten yet is that I write about speculation and budget playing. White weenie is a great cheap constructed deck. To make one that is good enough to compete in public games, it would cost you 10 tickets max. I mean planeswalkers are expensive, and always will be. But you can definitely make a competitive deck using mostly commons and uncommons.

If you focus on cheap flyers, get some Gitaxian Probes for card draw, and some guys with first strike, you would be in pretty good shape.

Since you are new, it should be rather easy for you to put together a deck right now that can play in standard, but it won't be a top tier deck, although it could be competitive.

If you want, I can make a budget White weenie decklist in the next article that would cost you next to nothing, and you could probably make it out of cards you have already drafted. I love playing on a budget. It really separates the smart from the dumb, and the original from the boring decklist copiers.

  • Speculation 101: The Process, and the Rebirth of White Weenie   13 years 43 weeks ago

    1) Me :) I'm new, trying not to splash the cash (although my draft obsession isnt' helping) and curious about entering cheap speculations... I'm keen on items up to the 1 tix mark, not 10 tix of big Mythic speculations.

  • Speculation 101: The Process, and the Rebirth of White Weenie   13 years 43 weeks ago

Well guess what, before M12 came out, everyone was talking about how Sundial of the Infinite was the best card ever made, and it's worth less than Norn's Annex. I already said it was a bad pick, but who knows.

And this is personal opinion btw since nobody here is a professional, but Norn's Annex is a good card against Zombie and Werewolves, Elves, Vampires, and can be easily put in a sideboard.

I admit it may not be the best card, but I like the idea of stopping creature based decks, especially one's that get out a lot of creatures quickly, and you need to get yourself set for control.

It;s not the greatest card, but I look at cards differently than you guys do. I look at Wizards as a company, and why would a company make something if it had no use?

Why would they waste time and money thinking of a card that was absolutely useless. I think everything has a use, it's just how it is used.

Just because something isn't on a decklist on the daily's page doesn't mean it's worthless. I mean Chandra the Firebrand isn't a heavily used card, but I think it's the best planeswalker from M12. It can be put in every deck by just splashing a little red, and it can take out those pesky birds, deal damage to planeswalkers, and oh yeah, try using Stagger Shock with it. It's fun.

I was tempted to make it, but I am afraid they might ban Emrakul (just my own irrational yet semi-logical speculation). Jin-Gitaxias seems interesting.

    Norn's Annex.

  • Speculation 101: The Process, and the Rebirth of White Weenie   13 years 43 weeks ago

gideon is better for control because it has control modes and aggro mode. Elspeth can tick up to an open board against mono red or tick down... either way a hero of oxid ridge crushes.

Mirran crusader is great against pretty mush everything except a deck that has cheap burn spells, but is worse against blade splicer.

Grand Abolisher is really interesting. Some decks really hate to see that guy on the board. He is very good at helping swords to connect since you should be able to navigate their options since they can only use land abilitys. The only problem is the match ups that he isnt so good in... valakut just doesnt care... after rotation he seems very solid hate bear action.

  • Speculation 101: The Process, and the Rebirth of White Weenie   13 years 43 weeks ago

Ok, let me admit this.... I WAS ENTIRELY WRONG ABOUT NORN'S ANNEX!

I admit it. I was wrong. I like to have 1 in my sideboard because I am used to playing SOM block exclusively. And I ran into a lot of those red decks where there was a lot of Goblins on the board quickly. Using Norn's Annex, public games and in Standard and SOM block, Norn's Annex has helped me out, but it's not a speculative card. I think it's good.

But people completely forgot about the other cards I takled about.

Mirran Crusader, Grand Abolisher, etc.. Those are the really good cards.

I just want to know, which is better. Gideon or Elspeth.

  • Speculation 101: The Process, and the Rebirth of White Weenie   13 years 43 weeks ago

Ok, within the whole thing, the point was missed about speculation.

Since speculation is a large endeavor, it is a step by step process. I in no way said that Honor of the Pure is a buy for speculation. I wrote "how to speculate" but in my last article people wanted to see more decklists. So I just did a little semi-decklist using the main "white weenie" cards in SOM and then add in some stuff in Innistrad.

I did not say at all "buy Honor of the Pure because it will go up", in fact, the only thing I have told people to do to make tickets is play SOM block drafts. I haven't said what to buy or sell. That is like step 7, not step 2. I also would rather have people speculate on their own instead of listening to me, because if it is like the stock market, then everyone is right.

I do like what I see in Innistrad, and think there might be a place for White Weenie.

And for Norn's Annex, Zombies are going to be built in bulk. I think Norn's Annex is going to be very good against that card that puts zombie tokens into play. Which I think is a playable card. It has flashback also, so it is very anti-Wrath of God.

I just like mono white right now. I think when Zen is gone, there are some cards in White that will be very playable. What worries me is that people will use the non-aligned colored dual lands along with the regular dual lands to make a U/W/B deck that will be just pure control and winning with planeswalkers. That bores the hell out of me.

  • Speculation 101: The Process, and the Rebirth of White Weenie   13 years 43 weeks ago

annex doesn't really help in the zoo or splinter twin matchups.
the viable zoo list can get qasali out, runs bant charms and does not really beat with many creatures.
as for splinter twin, they have bounce as answers and they can play the control role well enough to not to ever get blown out esp if they have seen it.

  • Speculation 101: The Process, and the Rebirth of White Weenie   13 years 43 weeks ago

I started to read that and then was like "oh another 9/11 lets never forget borefest" skip skip... "ah theres the article!" I agree that you have a right to post it; i just have a short attention span.

you speculate how I speculate. When you mentioned honor of the pure i knew you werent including it in hopes that people would run out and buy them up. Anyone with a speculation back ground understands that the card isnt going up and even if it does the potential value gained is too low. Maybe you should have made that clear for the other people reading the article.

When you mentioned how back in the day the deck to beat was savannah lions, swords, ect I couldnt help but think "That was then, this is now". When we compare new cards to old cards that are similar some times the comparasion makes us think that the new card MUST be good... (see time reversal). While i personally dont think we will see WW be huge a certain group of players try WW every new set and rotation. Sometimes they have success. This means there is a possibility of tix to be made!

norns annex- If they had to pay 2 life for eash attacker no matter the color i could see this being borderline playable. The problem is when White is in alot of the creature strats since they have such good creatures. I do agree it really screws a Vamps player as long as you have pressure, but it seems some what situational, but i would be willing to give it a try out.

  • Pauper Standard Weekly Metagame Update: MPDC 14.04   13 years 43 weeks ago

First I want to say hi to everyone in the community. Just started playing in the tournament and I really appreciate the effort put into its organization. Keep up the great work gwyned!

I guess I got lucky this Monday. Given the current metagame I didn't have much choice when making this deck. This article does a great job in explaining why I included most of the cards. I just wanted to point out the main reason for including Pith Driller and Makindi Griffin and that is the 4 toughness. Most of the decks out there have access to great, fast and cheap red removal and blue card draw for additional fuel. The dominance of Lightning Bolt, Searing Blaze, Staggershock, etc means that your opponent can remove 2-3 toughness creatures with ease. Therefore the four toughness Pith Driller and Makindi Griffin are proving to be automatic 2fof1 every time they hit the board. Come into play effects/flying are just a bonus.

I am also looking forward to the new set and Standard's rotation. Removing M11 and Zen Block from the equation will provide opportunities for new players and a good challenge for all of us.

  • Speculation 101: The Process, and the Rebirth of White Weenie   13 years 43 weeks ago

I totally don't get this....... Why is mentioning 9/11 SO inappropriate? Honestly, and I may be wrong, but it sounds like a bunch of people who just can't wait to be offended by something! Like it's some sort of whacked out, skewed, misguided attempt a being politically correct or something....... Man.... I just don't get it!

  • Speculation 101: The Process, and the Rebirth of White Weenie   13 years 43 weeks ago

Its quite an interesting article you wrote here and its certainly worth taking into account for those who are interested in doing the stock market thing in MTGO. I have my own strategies but I'm always looking for ways to improve and this is the kind of article that can do that.

Regardless of whether what you are saying is valid or not, I would like to give you this feedback on the style and form, which I hope you find constructive. I'm afraid the article itself feels like a forum post. Its conversational, which can be a good thing, but its taken to the degree where the information just doesn't feel like it can be taken fully seriously. You should probably take a bit more time to edit it more. You said that you were getting various directions people wanted you to take it and I suppose that's why it turned that way. I would recommend just listening to one, whoever is the most important and focusing on that idea and try to make the style a little more formal, it gives the whole article more credibility.

While the style of the article itself could do with improvements, I think where you most need to be careful is in how you are answering the feedback you are getting. It usually is in bad form to justify your ideas with your background. This is because in the internet we are basically anonymous so anyone can say anything about themselves and unfortunately this usually ends up just sounding pompous and fewer people will take you seriously. Another thing, being the author of an article for a website you want to keep your answers professional and avoid being trollish, even though the people commenting will likely be critical and seem idiotic. In general try to avoid getting defensive about your ideas and even more avoid attacking the people criticizing them. It gets you nowhere and just makes you lose credibility as an author.

One thing which I am very bad at is keeping my own posts short, as you can see, but you really have to try. I would recommend ignoring the people who don't say anything useful, and only adding information and ideas if it helps to make a specific point that is being debated about the content of your article but don't write about yourself or person you are answering unless absolutely necessary. For example, don't knock off someone for their bad grammar and spelling. There are a lot of incredibly intelligent people who don't write English as a first language or who are just in a hurry to give you their feedback and don't have time to spell check.

Some of the posters are trolling you, though your comments kind of are asking for it, others are giving you good feedback. You should ignore the useless trolling, though realize there may be a reason for it but specially pay attention to the feedback and consider that some of the things you are saying may be wrong or in bad shape. For example the 9/11 thing.. this is probably the wrong target audience to direct that to and the comments show that. It is indeed a very important thing but I think the feedback should have shown you by now that this is not the right place to mention it.

  • Mikey K Pauper Testing Session: UR Cloudpost   13 years 43 weeks ago

You're right. Cloudpost was ontop and it looked like a Glimmerpost to me the first time around. I still think you should have played it out though because you never know if your opponent will click through an attack step or F4/F6 through his/her turn. Although unlikely, there is still the off-chance he/she doesn't even cast the elf. It is just a good habit to get into when you're grinding these queues. No need to make anything easier for your opponent.

char49d's comment is really on point too. If you decide to start hitting DEs that is something to definitely consider when building a deck. However, in the 2player queues it is a different story because you see so many different decks and builds, you almost just have to hope to get lucky with your pairings.

  • Mikey K Pauper Testing Session: UR Cloudpost   13 years 43 weeks ago

I agree with you char... Cloudpost is the hardest deck I've played in pauper.. the irony is that I actually play MBC usually, lol... But I totally see what your saying, next time I do a session with post.. Believe me, I will have a much better list and a much better view of what I'm doing(I hope:D)

@greyes: I figured that's what you thought... Believe me I'm not that bad, I would have seen that, haha... But thank you for your comments non the less. I agree with you on not making it easier for your opponent... I do have to get used to mtgo and the little ways you can "steal" wins... I've only really been "grinding" mtgo for about 5 months now.. I'm still used to paper...

I see this article only got 2 fireballs.. Though I hope you all still enjoyed my vids and hope for more... I mean... 2 is better than 1 right?

  • Speculation 101: The Process, and the Rebirth of White Weenie   13 years 43 weeks ago

You are right, I just got caught up in the drama. LIke I couldn't get through to people, and I guess I got frustrated. Which is easy for me because I tend to have a short fuse.

I got caught up in the moment, which is stupid, but my problem is, and being from NY you know this, if you have a problem with someone, you say it to their face. When I write for other websites like CNN or SI (I do mostly research or contributions) there is no flaming. There may be negative comments, but it's less personal, and people don't hide because they are on the net.

But thank you. You are obviously a lot less hot-headed than I am.

Normally I am not this angry, but I don't know. Maybe the subject matter hit me where there was no grey, just black and white, and either way it was a lose lose for me.
