village cannibals is one of those cute cards that will trap you. 10% of the time its a superstar but the rest its just another grey ogre. the upside of the other cards in that pick was enough to push them over taking that risk tho again as i didn't watch the matches its hard to say how useful it was to you.
Congratulations to Jens for completing the Maniac Challenge. Prize is on its way.
Maniac Challenge 2: I will personally stump up for the prize to support this. Maniac revisited same rules as before but let me make it clear the Maniac has to be integral to the deck and win strategy and spawn a new innovative archetype in the spirit of involving the format :D same prize same deadline.
And while ill agree it could have been 4 Bog Imps or w/e, i DID win Games with Lab Maniac (or would have if my Opponents dind concede b4 i had to draw a Card) So Yes, i think i´ve won this Challenge.
BUT this is ur Challenge and if u Guys think i "cheated" and dont agree that i´ve taken this down fair n square with just a innovative Way and/or cant see the Fun in my little "Project" then screw it and dont award my anything.
One thing I noticed and have been debating on constantly - has anyone else besides me noticed that it's coming soon to a point where the price of a Commander precon will soon be exceeded by the value of the cards in it? The one with Scavenging Ooze, for example, has a 26 dollar card... but the deck itself costs 30. And if you simply buy it, and then sell it right off, you'd get back in tickets what you paid and then some. Once that specific shelf hits... it will be very interesting to see if stores will do what I'm debating on doing, which is buy up a ton of the commander decks to strip. Even if I get pennies on the non-rares / non-mythics, the price of the rares and mythics'll get me over the value in tickets, that's for sure.
I don't own all the cards that are "Good in Stax" (if you don't get the joke just hang around thesource.com/forums during preview of up coming set weeks). Any other decks you'd like to see since RUG isn't your cup of tea, and possibly Bant isn't as well?
A much better article than last week, so keep up the improvements in that aspect.
I don't have much to say about the little green men as my love for them ranks right up there with my love for Goblins which is...........Zero.....
For your next article I'd like to see something different........maybe go rogue. I've played and written about RUG enough that seeing replays of it might be painful.
Are those cards seeing play though? I love Q Rangers but it seems like one of those cards that was more great in the past than now. Is there a deck for it? Fireblast is great in gobs/rdw etc but not so much outside of pure red. Lavadart...is that even played?
Welcome to pauper (again) :) The "Big post" deck you mention is pretty strong, but I see it time-out as often as I see it win. Also, many think Capsize is a lock vs. non-island lands...it isn't obviously. Many a time a flashed back lavadart, fireblast, q.ranger etc..., can shut the post player off from their bouncing fun.
"A more subtle reason for the banning of Wild Nacatl is the development of future Magic sets." I wonder if that means that they are thinking about reprinting the Ravnica block lands in a future set?
Oh yeah, Blessing (and its mate Stave Off) are great answers for the opponent's pump spells! Back when UG Infect was all the rage it was very common to Vines In response to a Distortion Strike. I really love versatility in a card! :-)
You might be amused to hear that Apostle's Blessing is being used by some as ANTI infect tech! "Countering" a few choice pump spells can buy you a lot of time.
People remember when port was the relevant land card in every format so they are hoping some new decks with it will be on the rise. That's my take on it.
You're probably being deliberately over the top and ironic here, but even still, I had to comment, as I think this type of attitude is completely worthless.
Even if I read this article series every week, I don’t let a comment every week. But sometime, I feel I need to do it : each article of this serie is really a must-to-be-rade, each time very interesting & enjoyable. Thank you for this awesome work Pete.
About Rishadan, the price is indeed currently irrational: the card is good and all, but I agree it enters in almost no one competitive shell nowadays. Much less than tangle wire, and probably still less than unmask or misdirection. And nothing seems to announce it would change soon. Like you, I like to collect old card to play them casualy. But like you, I cant understand this current price. I would be very interested in getting a rational explanation.
You should have chump blocked with the Fox and let de Apprentice alive. That way you could dodge removals and have an endless supply of chumpers. And it combo with the Crow. Pay more attention, man. :)
Game 2 Round 2. You saw the Rig. You got greedy by playing the Crow and the Torch instead of just put a counter with the Travel Prep and dodge the possible removal.
Round 3 the correct attack, since you were afraid of removals was send in the Slayer and the Rig instead of the Crow. That way you would have 3 blockers for his flyer, putting you in a very good spot.
Jens you completed this before the challenge officially started with the release of YSO46. You and I both know that this deck list is not in the spirit of these challenges. We are looking for innovation and you answer to jam 4 into dredge which has a ridic g1 matchup against the field only to side them out R2 and R3 for dredge hate is cheap. People could win the library challenge this way or the 4 bog imp challenge. I think we and the community that voted for maniac were clear we were looking for a dedicated maniac deck from this challenge. If you want to see this as a victory we will of course award you the title and the prize but tbh seems cheap given the date and mechanism.
Let the community know so they can act accordingly with a view to the challenge.

Bants always good, but as you know I've played tons of legacy so I've seen it before.
I've been working on a Dreadnought/Torpor Orb deck. Maybe you can help me break it lol.
It's your writing, whatever you want to write about than so be it.
I don't remember EXACTLY how well they were, I do remember this was the first time I realized the effect was now limited to my side of the table only!
Thank YOU for checking out the article man. Much appreciated!
Not gonna lie, your color pie for Griffins made me go dig up my copy of Pokemon Red and my Gameboy Color...

wow... Oo, relax - like, serious... relax.
First of all; I did this purely for the lolz. I dind intend to offend anyone...
I read your Post with the Challenge on CQ http://www.classicquarter.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=4376 and thougth, "Heck, lets join rigth the first DE of the Classic Celebration with 4 Lab Maniacs and do this!"

cheers

@goat314: thx!

was good, but the inrtoductionary pun was mindblowing.
im pretty sure that deck dosent want ports. not 100% but pretty sure none the less.

How about some videos on Stax lol.
The same workshop deck that uses 4 Tangle Wires runs port. At least the version that went 4-0 in the last classic daily I played in did.
Lavadart is played in some storm builds.

Great article as always!

Apples to Apples! Ha! What an awesome party game!

Wow, have you ever heard of good sportsmanship?

Thanks a lot!
