I like the focus. I would have never thought Oros would make a good commander.

So no different from the usual customer service contact point.

I tried to find it amongst the mtg bigwigs I have on twitter...nothing. Though it is true I don't follow that many and don't look at it that often.

  • Freed from the Real 161: MOCSgate   13 years 16 weeks ago

Any chance on a link to the MOCS tweet for folks who Q'ed but couldn't get in? The podcast mentioned something about a customer service link being posted on twitter but I actually don't know what twitter page they might be referring to. #mtgo seems to be a dead account and google isn't turning up anything else.

Good stuff. When I was assembling Kaldra a while back, a card that I really liked was Diamond Valley. I could attack with Kaldra, then sac him and reassemble him. Sort of like vigilance, but gains you life! Sort of janky and fun.

Mercadian Atlas is interesting. Another option, or something that you could even play in conjunction with the Atlas, is Oath of Lieges. Sure it helps other players too, but that should make people like you who are also falling behind to the Green player in mana development.

And I did do an Oros deck, but it was so long ago now (I think it was my 5th article or something) that it is pretty outdated. The interesting thing is that the emphasis was on dragons, angels and demons, all pre-Kaalia. Pretty funny when you think about it.

    A great article as always.

It's good to see Trailblazer's Boots get some love. I play one in my Skullbriar deck and I'm always glad when it comes out.

I like your comments on a deck's focus. Ever since reading your articles I make sure I think about my win condition when I build decks. My first thought when putting a deck together is to play to a theme and fill it with good stuff, but then I always remember your advice and make sure I have a good win condition... or two.. or three...

  • Freed From The Real #147: Which is worse, Red, Green or Prophecy?   13 years 16 weeks ago

Well, I am not playing Magic anymore, and its been 4 years already. But for me, white is the worst. I will not explain further since I actually agree with people who chose white as the worst, One of my favorites before is the wizard deck. However, it seems it is a little bit boring to always counter a spell so I decided to have a hybrid of red color + wizards. It became effective for me. You can actually think that it was an odd hybrid but I really love creating challenging decks.

Grats to your friends Keya and grats again for your SGC draft placing.

Currently I am loving the Curse of Exhaustion + Knowledge Pool combo I mentioned briefly in my last article. Hard locks = good times. :p Also enjoy flipping Huntmaster of the Fells to kill something my opponent controls via Moonmist. Too funny. Though I truly wish he was 1/4th the price. It really sucks to have such a fun card priced out of so many people's reaches.

My feeling about the two players who were caught subbing is they will get the punishment anyone doing that deserves. Namely suspension without prizes. Is it right that they get the punishment when so many people do it? Sure why not? If you do something wrong publicly there is no hiding it. It sucks that more are doing it and not getting caught but that's the nature of the anonymity of online play. Let this be a word of warning to those who indulge eh?

I played AJ's gravecrawler zombies a few times and it was brutal. A little slow vs Wolves but brutal nonetheless. The thing about gravecrawler is the propensity for that deck to just go aggro quickly and often. So then you become the control to its beatdown. Which means having to find creative ways to prevent the eventual combo AND stop the beatings. Not so easy. Some people I watched AJ play this against didn't even seem to realize they were going to be comboed out. The life loss zombies + phyrexian altar + gravecrawlers = gg.

It could happen. More playing is in order though before that happens and then I have to manage to get there on time. Unlike yesterday. :)

  • Magical Tidings - Infinite Wolves   13 years 17 weeks ago

That wolf deck looks very solid. When are you going to get it in Tribal Apoc?

  • State of the Program for March 9th   13 years 17 weeks ago

I'll have to work on this. The downside is that I write on three different machines, running three different versions of Word. That makes formatting tables tricky. Word keeps changing defaults and options between versions.

    Does sound more interesting.

  • State of the Program for March 9th   13 years 17 weeks ago

    Adjustment time?
I for one am waiting for the new client with a mixture of excitement and fear. I know the current one is bad, but it's a bad I learned to know, and the jump in the dark will involve a painful period of re-learning, and MONTHS of unspeakable troubles and general mess while all the major bugs will be slowly, slowly fixed.

  • State of the Program for March 9th   13 years 17 weeks ago

I like the idea of having "all the cards over 25$" replace "the top 10 most expensive cards". Yet following the STD-legal planeswalkers (or similar hot mythics) is a bit tricky. For instance, while I'm writing this, Sorin, Lord of Innistrad is sold at more than Liliana of the Veil, and both of them aren't over 25$ anymore. They change as frequently as stock market shares.

  • Magical Tidings - Infinite Wolves   13 years 17 weeks ago

    Thanks for the comments guys.

@Keya no doubt in my mind you do.
@Pete I think Erik helped keep things real a lot and kept tempers from flaring too much. Bubba is a great VCL but it seems like he's doing it alone now and the Mods aren't always cooperative or involved to help steer things in a more positive direction. I agree with the golden rule idea. It is tough to stop one's self from responding to something that is disagreeable but I will make more of an effort to do so.
@Kuma I look forward to seeing your take on them.

  • Magical Tidings - Infinite Wolves   13 years 17 weeks ago

Thanks for the support Paul. Still not sure that I contribute enough, but it is nice to be appreciated.

I love that you take your time and invest so much in your articles. Keep up the good work man!

  • State of the Program for March 9th   13 years 17 weeks ago

not sure I understand having both the new client and v3

  • State of the Program for March 9th   13 years 17 weeks ago

Don't expect to have leagues back by the end of the year. If I remember the update correctly, what they said was that development on leagues would start in Q4 2012, not be completed by then.

  • State of the Program for March 9th   13 years 17 weeks ago

Fair enough, thanks for the reply!

  • State of the Program for March 9th   13 years 17 weeks ago

    - Most likely they will reprint Wasteland if they do what I hope and that is manipulate the secondary market to make other formats more affordable. I doubt the Classic players would argue if they made some of the Classic cards/Legacy cards cheaper and more available to the new classic player. Also I would like to see cards they promised they would never reprint, which are Tolarian Academy and Gaea's Cradle.

UB Zombies has gotten a lot of play, but people, including me who play Ramp Run, and people who play White (Either Humans or WB Tokens) destroy Zombies. I mean ramp main-deck's Slagstorm and Whipflare, so I don't know why people continue to play the deck. The only way to win is turn 4 obliterator, but White runs sword of war and peace and Ramp runs Beast W/in.

I am happy the infinite combo Havengul Lich deck is winning online because that deck is cool, but I have seen people try to make it in paper and fail miserably.

I just don't get it. The Zombie deck doesn't work. I mean it will win it's share of games, but every dog has it's day. I just feel like every deck has a way around Zombies, and it won't be extremely viable until SOM Cycles out, or Avacyn Restored has insane Zombies.
Personally I enjoy working on my RB Vamp deck. It needs a lot of work, and it needs a top of the line 2 drop vamp in the next set to make it great, but it's pretty fun/good.

*I think you should talk about the next set being reported having absolutely no Werewolves, no flashback, and being 244 cards, which is 10 more cards than SOM. And it will be drafted alone instead of being drafted with ISD and DKA. I love Werewolves and that really sucks, and there are a lot of decks that have used flashback for fun purposes and now they are just going to get rid of it? Why?

Are they releasing this set to completely wipe out ISD and DKA? The last time they did something like this was ZEN, and that led WWK becoming one of the sets that had some of the most expensive/rare cards that got play, including Stoneforge and Jace, the Wallet Sculptor. And with Restored being a "stand-alone" set, the Supply of DKA will be tiny and therefor very expensive.

Plus if they get rid of Undying I will be pissed as hell at WotC. Battle Cry had a chance to be great, it's gone. And Undying has potential to be amazing also but if this is it for undying, I will be pretty sad.

  • State of the Program for March 9th   13 years 17 weeks ago

the update was bad. looked like gordon took a mail from 2 years ago and just changed the dates

  • State of the Program for March 9th   13 years 17 weeks ago

I bold anything that moves a lot, but I'm not excited about doing the math for % change. (The other alternaitve is putting this into a spreadsheet and having it do the calcualtions automatically, but getting the data from Excel into formatted tables and have it load into the article loader has proved awkward.

Maybe, but for now its a "too busy cutting to sharpen the saw" things.

  • State of the Program for March 9th   13 years 17 weeks ago

Yeah. What stood out for me is leagues by the end of the year!

  • State of the Program for March 9th   13 years 17 weeks ago

I thought there would be more excitement over the new client.

  • State of the Program for March 9th   13 years 17 weeks ago

Been seeing UB zombies (almost that exact list) for a while now in JuFF... I keep hoping people will move on but lol it persists. Or has undying... You brought up some lands I'd forgotten to think about with the FTV topic in FFTR. Vesuva is pretty likely, isn't Maze reserved? If not then yay? Reflecting Pool is another one I overlooked. Great land that.
