Maybe I'm just a little bitter they didn't pick something like Invasion Block. Now that would have been epic.
As it stands it doesn't really matter, cube drafting is one of the greatest drafting formats of all time. People are still happily playing SWISS drafts of it even though it's impossible to come out ahead. First place breaks even and everybody else loses.
That's really a testament to how good the Cube format is.
fifthchild your premise is flawed. same ignorant line of bs that completely ignores the actual issues raised which were relevant. maybe if you actually spent the time reading and understanding his issues with the promotion you could understand the logic.
if wotc hypes something and only .01% of all mtg players in the world get to actually experience it that's failed marketing by any standard.
"My name is Pete and I have a massive sense of entitlement! I also hate free stuff."
Does that cover the Helvault griping?
To be less facetious, an event with a bunch of extra free stuff can never be 'strictly worse' than an event without. I always read your article and I have gotten used to your tone, but this time I think you were out of line.
The Euro event has been super fun! Join up even if you don't have a straight up competitive Classic deck. My matches were Merfolk, RDW, RDW, Death & Taxes. Not your typical Classic event. And in watching games I saw tons of mono-black control, vampires, and homebrews.
I'll be in the US event, too!
Thanks so much Blippy!
I had the red text in the Word version. Apparently that got lost in the conversion to online. I'll fix it next week.
I have to admit that, by the time I finished it Thursday night, I was dead tired, and I didn't notice when I scanned the article after conversion. Sorry.
Due to the wonderful world that is WOTC, I've been instructed to change my screen name as it was supposedly offensive and against the code of conduct. Can you please change ImpinAintEasy to NarrowGate as that is my new name.
AVR cards were in the Beta Boosters with the new build (the Wednesday)after the complete set was spoiled! Way to go, WOTC. Could be why they spoiled the set on Monday; to give the maximum time for Beta testing and shortening the lag between paper and MODO.
I always love reading this article every Friday, but I miss the red type for cards that have fallen in price from the previous week. Makes the charts a lot harder to read.
I had went to a midnight Helvault event. I'm the come and go type of player right now (trying to change that) And as the store who ran it did so very well, the Helvault that was opened was one with "rocks" in it. With days leading up to the event, I was aware of what might be in them, dice, over sized cards, and tokens, but was hoping that wasn't true. I was also finding myself feeling like I was wasting my time and that this Helvault was just that another gimmick. I am almost tired of WoTC doing things like this.
Time Spiral block was not a good choice for Nix Tix block. Goyf is the only thing in Time spiral that is worth anything, the rest of the block has not really stood up to the test of time.
Kamigawa, Masques, and Time Spiral are the worst three blocks as far as lasting value is concerned. Any other block would have attracted a reasonable amount of budget minded drafters.
Of course any block WotC pick would sink the pack resale value due to Cube Draft prizes, but there is nothing really great about Time Spiral to encourage budget drafters even if they can draft for 7 tickets.
Unfortunately, I can't compete because my daughter's birthday is today (May the Fourth be with you). But GL to those both playing and running the events. Kudos to Blippy for putting it on and Kuma for handling the Euro participation.
Well, every block has its fans.

It's good to hear that the Community Cup Event is still alive.
I really thought that it was cut to save money because of the current state of the economy.
What were the achievements?
never trust anyone with the name ripping off bounty hunters from star wars

Just wish they'd tell us more now rather than at some future date. :D
Not really sure I get the reasoning behind that. Sorry to here it though.
Thanks Blippy!
I'm Dead serious. After like 4 years + of having my screen name I get a notice from WOTC stating my Screen name violates CoC.
Oh well, life goes on, just sucks cause I've had it for so long!
Done.
are you serious??? that's so lame.

See you guys tonight!
while i can agree on the value in TSP it was one of my personal favs to play

Any deck that is Standard or Modern legal is also legal in Classic. You're welcome to play with a Standard or Modern deck if you like.
You are entered in the US Event as Player #90, under then name Cownose.
:) Good luck!
I'll be there, this seems like an awesome way to remember Eric!!! Thanks for doing this!
(can this post count as my registration?)

Too bad I don't have a classic deck so I can't play :(
