Slayer's Stronghold will be a GREAT addition and allow the deck to be more threatening while still running more lands. I'm pumped for it! Cavern will be fine, but won't support token-heavy builds quite as much.

Ive always been a fan of boros. No love for blasphemous act?

  • This Week in Magic - WrDW and Wins and Wins and Wins!   13 years 9 weeks ago

If you're running RW tokens, Rally the Peasants is a very, very good card to put in it. I'd go as far as to say maybe over Devil's Play. I think RW Humans is about to get very good with the addition of Cavern of Souls and Slayer's Stronghold.

I'm mostly grateful for the link to the custom art article, I was thinking about it the other day, but couldn't remember where I'd seen it or who may have wrote it, but now I can get rid of that ugly Lor Ponder art!

  • 10 Reasons Why MTGO Rules!   13 years 9 weeks ago

For those reading this. This is my first article written on my Kindle Fire. I am noticing a lot of mistakes, so hopefully my next one will be better. I apologize for the poor article.

  • 10 Reasons Why MTGO Rules!   13 years 9 weeks ago

I actually had about 15 reasons, and the clock was on there, but for length, I narrowed it down to 10 and the clock did not make the list. I am a huge fan of the clock and I really wish they would instate it in PM.

  • 10 Reasons Why MTGO Rules!   13 years 9 weeks ago

All good reasons, don't forget the Clock as another good reason. Few things are more frustrating in paper than going to a draw because you have one person that needs a few minutes to think before every single decision in the game.

Thanks for the comment Leviathan. I could have (and usually do) provided more match reports, but I felt that these ones pretty much covered off everything the deck could do. I included the last one more to show off my opponent's interesting deck, rather than to say anything about mine, although it did highlight how slow the deck can be. Also, the match reports take me AAAAAGES to write!

But yes, it would have been useful for me to provide a final decklist to show my thoughts after playtesting.

Generally speaking I'm aiming to provide fun, budget, casual decks featuring underused cards. I think I mostly achieved that, although my biggest criticism of my own article in this case is that the deck wasn't surprising / innovative enough. That will change in my next piece...

  • Overdriven! 22   13 years 9 weeks ago

Can't wait to see how many players we get! It's going to be awesome to play a full 5 round Classic tournament in Erik's honor.

  • Mikey K Radio – Power of the Songs Combo   13 years 9 weeks ago

Glad to know you tried the deck. Most post decks I see don't play crusher, sounds like you ran into the players who like crusher. If they are playing crusher, then 3 doom blades should be in the board for such a threat.

Sounds like vs aggro, you got unlucky. It happens, I was testing against goblins the other day and it isn't a walk in the park.

Infect is hard as hell to win, but not impossible. I will be doing another session with this deck in the future. Be sure of that.

  • Mikey K Radio – Power of the Songs Combo   13 years 9 weeks ago

I got the exact 75 together except for rats that I replaced for pestilences for budget reasons. As I am probably the unluckiest people on earth when it comes to magic I got terrible draws in almost every game. But the deck is awesome.

I played against 3 posts, WW, infect and a very cool mono black suicide. The only match I won was against cloudpost because he timed out. Here's how they went.

All the post decks I played had at least 1 crusher main decked, I think this is a weakness of this deck, maybe adding some edicts to the sideboard would be good against crushers and Guardians of the guildpact (rats don't hit them). Most of the matches the post player could get to the capsize land bullshit. Minotaur really shined in this match, I never cycled them and they always took down a mulldrifter.

Against the aggro decks they usually killed me before I could do anything. Of course the gnaws never came in time and post board the removal became hidden somewhere in the library.

Infect seemed really hard, because we give them all the time they need to get a hand that protect his dudes kill you in one shot.

It would be very nice if you do another test session with this deck, it's very fun to play.

  • Your MTGO Stock Analyst - Looking at the Big Picture   13 years 9 weeks ago

Woof I like what you do, but using the PTQ seasons (especially modern) and selling off standard cards the spring/summer they're going to rotate is just free money that's been basically covered. You can think of selling (most) about-to-rotate standard cards as short sales. If I sell my Blackcleaves this summer, then rebuy post-rotation, i'll have a few dollars + the cards.

  • Your MTGO Stock Analyst - Looking at the Big Picture   13 years 9 weeks ago

I need to my research on set change dates and PTQ season type changes. One key item to research will be if there is any pattern seen before, at and after say the rotation occurs. Perhaps prices already have accounted for the rotation and won't be affected much at this early stage, I doubt it though... A future article will have to micro-analysis these large format changes and new card introductions to see if we can deduce their impact.

Thanks for bringing these up and glad you like my articles!

  • Design Review -- Avacyn Restored   13 years 9 weeks ago

I also think that Soul Bond has a lot to offer and flash/flicking creatures could create tricky situation in constructed. Birthing Pod looks like a good Soul Bond dealer...

To me Thunderous Wrath is not that good, and certainly not as good as Gut shot, It's barely a decent card without Miracle. And if you built deck abusing Miracle mechanism, there are better cards to play before putting Thunderous Wrath in your deck, I would sell them as fast as possible, especially for 3 tix.

Vexing Devil, I can't see any situation where I'll be happy to play it. If I play against RDW I'll be more than happy to spend 4 life in exchange to 1 card and my opp skips his 1st turn. And playing RDW, I would never consider not having a creature T1 on the board. Same is true T2, T3 and T4+ it's probably a dead card.
Any player playing against RDW dreams of having a free removal for 4 life for any early creature. How and when Vexing Devil can be good? 0.5 Tix in 1 month for me, just because people will try it and because it could be funny in casual, otherwise 0.05 tix in 2 weeks.

Archwing Dragon, even if I don't like it very much, may be to consider. Unlike during Viashino Sandstalker era, there are Plainswalker around, + that guy has flying and a bigger toughness. He is not that easily stoppable by regular "crawling" creatures and he is a re-loadable silver bullet for Plainswalkers. Probably not too bad overall, a little bit like Dragon rajhi: you don't want to have 2 in hand, but very likely 1 in mid game. Although Hellrider is playing in the same categorie...

  • Out of the Blue - Thrills and Spills   13 years 9 weeks ago

I liked the budget deck, but I thought the article could have used a little more meat. I know that losing the Blighsteel Col-suck-ass is horrible, but a few more game break downs would have been nice. Plus a finalized decklist at the end. Naya is a fun color combo with some cool interactions and you were able to show some little used cards. Unfortunately I almost did spill my drink, but my cat-like reflexes and soft hands contributed to catching it while tipping over, and I was able to recover nicely.

  • Anything But Special Edition! - Budget Mechanics Pt. 1   13 years 9 weeks ago

I rarely play formats other than Commander, but when I do I really like budget articles. This is great because it gives plenty of options. Videos were nice because I could understand you and you did a good job of explaining the deck and plays. Plus your voice is very soothing. Like listening to the ocean on a warm summer evening. Mmmmm, sleepy. Good stuff.

  • Mikey K Radio – Power of the Songs Combo   13 years 9 weeks ago

I do that already:D. But it took me half an hour to get the decklist working and I wanted to go to bed. So the last time I copy and pasted after figuring out the order in which the article needed to be written so the decklist worked.

The entire article got mashed together, so I manually just spaced everything correctly and cut off a few things. I just filled in some stuff without proof reading it.

They are just some sentences that got a little messed up is all.
