Naw naw naw, you play THE Internet Star!

  • Legacy Lessons: Team America, Magic Police.   10 years 18 weeks ago

Hey I play Big Internet Star!! :D It is all a matter of style doncha know? :p

  • Legacy Lessons: Team America, Magic Police.   10 years 18 weeks ago

Oh yeah, Reddit is full of experts, some might actually even be experts, but much like its predecessors, Reddit draws a lot of folks who just have to be the last word on anything.

I'm like you. I can sift through the junk and find things that actually help me, but in my case I have very little patience for folks who play Big Internet Star. It's why I tend to stay out of forums these days.

But great work and keep em coming!

I did notice a ton of cat creatures recently. Nothing has a bonus exclusive to cats in Standard. I wonder what a cat tribal standard deck would look like?

Thank you very much. It wasn't comments on this website, it was on reddit, and to be fair, I did ask for honest opinions. Some people just prefer to point out flaws, and not offer anything positive. But I'm cool with it.

If anyone (like you) was influenced positively, it was all worth it. Thanks for reading!

    Thanks Zach.

I did consider Ancestral Recall but it fell into the same realm as Underground Sea, not enough hobby funds. My power is at level 7 and I can't see it getting much higher unless prices go down or I win the lottery!

    Hey

I hope the negative feedback was more constructive rather than just negativity or nit picking. If I make a mistake in an article I'm fine if folks want to point it out if.... And this is a big if.... The mistake could inadvertently cause a reader to misplay a card, or buy a card they can't use, or hurts a reader in any way however subtle or gross. But if it's negativity like 'why don't you stick to writing about x until you're an expert at Y, cuz you don't understand it at all. ' I'd tell those folks to take a walk.

We all make mistakes and very few of us can claim to be experts. Corrections are okay, but using a persons mistake to tear into them isn't cool.. While I haven't kept up with the comments and so have nothing specific I'm ranting against, just wanted to chime in and say that Legacy is a mystery to me and reading your articles not only helps understand Legacy, but makes me consider actually playing it. The information and presentation of your articles far outweigh any mistakes. Keep going!

Yeah I started playing Tome again after several years away. Lots of interesting stuff in the pipelines now. And the addons are pretty insane.

I don't do review articles but I wouldn't rule out a few deck lists at some point. Been on a real procrastination jag of late. (Too many other games, too little motivation to write, but I do have stuff to write about so I guess I should just go ahead and do it.)

Yeah was thinking it was the excitement of having new toys that kept you off the right line of play. Especially knowing the combo, that cat needs to be gone quickly or it takes over the game.

Speaking of which seems like there is a new form of cat tribal in the works combining some of the more recent cat cards + older stuff.

  • Becoming A Modern Man - Ad Nauseam   10 years 18 weeks ago

I love this deck! Saw Travis Woo pilot something similar a few months back and was intrigued. Drawing the entire deck always is fun. Great article and fund deck to watch!

  • Cracking the Code: A New Hope   10 years 18 weeks ago

Mon Ment needs its own deck to shine, not just J R R Tokens deck.. Maybe a four of with a full four of Soulfire GM tempo and burn. There has to be something. Those two plus every one mana spell available? Plus Stoke? Someone somewhere has the spot for him. Prowess Tokens. Has to be good.

But it's not my job to build decks to beat me with so we will have to wait and see.

Some of my better nicknames cannot be recorded or I lose my g rating.

  • Cracking the Code: A New Hope   10 years 18 weeks ago

I didn't charm that turn because I wasn't in a rush to remove the kitty, because I thought any removal would do and I had plenty. Had I not been testing my Wardens I would have nuked him more aggressively. In short I was cocky and unfocused for all of those matches.

I haven't played TOME in a while but I do love that game dearly.

Appreciate the comments and would love to see your review of the other cards in the set. I had someone play a Kill Shot on me main deck so I know other folks are trying some of the less flashy cards out.

  • Cracking the Code: A New Hope   10 years 18 weeks ago

Monastery Mentor IS good, but in my opinion every knows how to beat the Jeskai token deck that it just dies to all the hate that unless you're playing it on turn 5, you're not getting value out of it. It doesn't help that it seems a bit silly to play it when Doomwake Giant is heavily played. It also competes with Goblin Rabblemaster, and that's a card that can win games on its own whereas Monastery Mentor needs help. Of course, I think the Jeskai token deck is completely unplayable, so take my opinion with a grain of salt. That said, I did manage to untap with him one time with Jeskai Ascendancy in play and Stoke the Flames in hand. My opponent did not get another turn.

    As for when I'm online, to tell you the truth I don't even know. I imagine tomorrow between 5 p.m. - 10 p.m., Friday 2 p.m. - 6 p.m., Saturday 5 p.m. - 10 p.m.

Watching your first video, I noticed you are a fellow TOME player. :) Been working on a Shalore Anorithil crit spell build lately (and whining a lot in chat about how broken the RNG is sometimes.)

BTW in that first match, 2nd game you won despite yourself but your mistake was not just with downfall but in playing the 2nd warden which sat there like a lump and did nothing but keep you from attacking one turn. Why? Because with all your mana open you could have charmed his tiger on his turn and thus had your way clear to swing and end the game a turn earlier.

His problem was that he played ascendancy instead of having a defense against your beasts. He really needed something better but sometimes the RNG is a beach. To your enemies.

    GG.

Haven't watched the rest of the videos but enjoyed the article over all.

Obviously everyone is <3 the new hybrid activation cards. But there are so many interesting cards in the new set I may have to write an article. Of course it won't be a pro level tech but hey who cares about that on this site? :p

Re Hordechief: I don't think 4x copies is wrong. I mean Hellrider was a 4 of and this guy is substantially very similar, trading haste for the ability to blow out a tough defense by choosing who and what get blocked and how.

LOL at Stinker of the Way.

  • Flippers Corner - Turtles in a half shell   10 years 18 weeks ago

    Hey there -

I liked the vintage list but couldn't help chuckling at the lack of ancestral recall in a deck where the true duality of the card could shine for once in the vintage format - outside of a dredge match and a desperation decking attempt.

Cheers - keep up the good work

    Zach

If they reprint the Zen fetch lands, Paul's dreams of a rainbow standard will be one step closer to a reality!

  • Flippers Corner - Turtles in a half shell   10 years 18 weeks ago

Perhaps you missed my Towershell lich deck from October but it abused the turtle in an entirely different way than yours. Love the interactions. The orc that is indestructible on your turn is a possible inclusion too if you don't mind splashing red and black. (you can see how I love those 5 color decks right?)

  • Flippers Corner - Turtles in a half shell   10 years 18 weeks ago

Cheers I'm glad you find my articles funny, I do try and make them a bit more interesting.

I don't really like videos. I don't watch them myself I prefer to read articles with lots of nice images etc, it also gives me more of an outlet for creative writing.

Now the deck its self is really fun to play, when you play the first turtle people get the wrong impression and think its an arms race and start to empty their hand of creatures to keep up. They do this even when I have the vault in play! Then the turtle wonders off and I think at that point it dawns on them that they have made a grave error as they suddenly start to play a bit more conservatively but at that point its too late.

A lot of games I do actually win in the early game due to how fast my creatures are. Hero of Leina Tower is much better than I thought she would be.

I did used to write up a few matches in my articles but its just too time consuming. I'd end up only being able to share one deck an article instead of three.

    Thanks for the comment CLB

  • Flippers Corner - Turtles in a half shell   10 years 18 weeks ago

Your articles are so much fun to read! I would really love to see that Standard Turtle deck in action. Do you do videos? Or could you walk us through a few test games verbally? Have you had a lot of luck playing it?

It's the kind of deck that makes the opponent sit up and pay attention.

  • Pauper Reanimator   10 years 18 weeks ago

The big strike against dredge is that it doesn't let you select the cards you want. I cannot overstate enough how important it is to be able to Forbidden Alchemy at the end of your opponent's turn to nab a key piece and then set up a haymaker, with defense, on your turn.

  • Pauper Reanimator   10 years 18 weeks ago

I will say this- Ulamog's Crusher doesn't care about Turbo Fog.

  • Pauper Reanimator   10 years 18 weeks ago

This deck seems sweet. Makes me want to try pauper again. I dabbled in it for a short period of time, and I immediately faced a turbo fog deck, which kind of turned me off. But this deck makes me want to give it another shot. I love to reanimate fatties.

  • Your MTGO Stock Analyst - Trading the Spread   10 years 18 weeks ago

I've seen Sorin cropping up in some Modern decklists. He makes dudes and he has a decent +1 and ultimate. I've never seen Sarkhan get much play period. I think Sorin has potential and is worth grabbing if the price is good.

  • Your MTGO Stock Analyst - Trading the Spread   10 years 18 weeks ago

There's some good information in the article but in my opinion you wrote a bit too much about the stock market.

I do understand the basic of stock market because I like sports betting and I've looked into trading in a site for that. It works in a similar way. But for most people, I think the article has a bit too much information they don't need/care.

About the bots facebook comment, he does have a point. Some people make accounts with similar names to big bot chains and that can trick some people.

And yes, there are some bots that buy cards way lower than their current value and sell for much higher. Sometimes it's just some cards, other times it's many cards. But it's a free market, if you sell to the first one blindly without checking the prices, you're bound to make a bad deal. This is also true irl and not really a problem. It doesn't take much time to check MTGOtraders or something like that. And people who do this probably don't really care. They are probably adults with full time jobs and draft whenever they have the time. They buy some tix, draft, sell the cards and when they run out of tix they buy again. They don't really care if they lose 1 or 2 tix to check other sites but sometimes they'll lose more on a good rare/mythic but that's just their fault. Sometimes it's not even the bot's owner doing it on purpose but more of bad bot management.

I do think trading in MTGO could improve a lot. Sometimes trading is slow and clunky and it would be great if mtgo offered a way for anyone to set automatic trading so having an outside bot would be irrelevant or maybe just a small advantage with more options. But at least splitting the classifieds in selling and buying would be an easy and helpful change.

But in the state things are right now, bots are pretty important. Humans can't keep track of fractional tix so usually it's better to sell stuff to bots (and it's way faster). Booster are usually in a price that it's impossible to get a better price from other players (unless you sell/buy 7 or 8 and that gets you a value between bots sell/buy). Obviously bots take advantage of this sometimes buying for 3.01 or selling for 2.99 and avoiding prices allow people to make better deals between themselves but it's business and they make sure you can find any card you might need fast and a fast way to cash out if you need to.
