Yes, I have had people cast Yawgmoth's Win late game. If they have a Dark Ritual and some lands, it usually means that they can recast their two best removal spells, and maybe a creature or two. Priest of Gix is great in that case.

Not the editors fault - I'm prone to malapropisms. JXC got most, but my average article runs 3,000 words. That's lots of errors to find.

First, my cards blocks are not intended to show pick orders, just a range of good cards to illustrate what the color offers. Rune of Pro Green was in there because RoP Black was not autocarding, so I tried other cards and RoP Green was the first to link correctly. I just wanted an example, so any of the five worked.

As for Titania's Chosen over Troll - I was showing mechanics. Chosen grows, while Troll is just a regenerator (albeit a great one.) And I did mention the Embraces elsewhere.

Again, I didn't post these in pick order. Sanctum Custodian is fine - although ever since LSV posted his draft video, white is overdrafted. I am seeing packs with a fourth pick Expunge and no white. That's wrong.

KALEIDOSCOPE. Pay no attention to who wrote the example article.

Good week. As for Thopters, it's a fun little deck, but the key card is Sharding Sphinx. Mass power boosters help.

I actually think you are correct, after reading some faqs I came across this:

10/1/2009: The source of the damage is Blazing Torch, not the equipped creature. However, the equipped creature's ability is what targets the creature or player. If Blazing Torch is equipped to a red creature, for example, the ability couldn't target a creature with protection from red. It could target a creature with protection from artifacts, but all the damage would be prevented.

I actually thought it could target and I got the confirmation from a couple of judges but aparently its a tricky card with a tricky ability.

I would probably recomend switching the sideboard slot towards Unstable footing since that one can actually help killing Kor Firewalker.

Nex time, DON'T take drugs before writing.

Ok, where I'm gonna start? Oh, that is a good one: "In Saga, red has a lot of fast beaters, and the card Falter, which prevents non-fliers from attacking." Ok, not that big kind of a problem but biiiiiiiig slops to the editor.

Then - why do you rate Titanias Chosen over uhm Albino Troll or even Gaes Embrace? Chosen is good but kinda slow and nowhere near ridic if you aren't monogreen.

And why on earth would one rate Rune: Green over the other ones ( especially black??? ). That just doenst make sense... It's not that green has not even a way to remove the rune...

Edit: About the pickorders: Sanctum Custodian is the best white common in this format. It does so sick things. Sure, it still gets beaten by pestilence but its the pest for a reason isnt it?

Oh man. Nothing personal, but that was not a good one...

  • Rogue Play - The Final Curtain   15 years 7 weeks ago

RDW is not a contender in this format?

  • Tribal Apocalypse: We Are Still On Top Of The Food Chain   15 years 7 weeks ago

What would people's take be on using Sword of the meek with Thopter foundry. I know its a key piece in a Thopter Depth's deck, but after looking over making a thopter deck, the deck seems a little week the direction I am taking it with out something to give it an edge.

If you are only drafting the format in terms of racing, then yes, Congregate can be good. If however, you have a back-up plan or are against U/x or W/x, then the life gain rarely matters. Honestly, I'd rather main deck Whetstone, which usually tables, than main Congregate. It's a decent sb card, but I'd rather have the in-color rune of protection or run lull, which also cycles. About the only time I'd really want to play Congregate is if I see Pestilence or Falter (in which case rather have lull), since Congregating when they are trying for an all-in kill or on low life is another way of stealing a win.

If you are considering other strategies than racing, then Congregate is about as good as Fiery Mantle in mono-red, or Fortitude with Endless Wurm... worth playing if you have a low playable count, sometimes swingy, but not something you should pick 1st-5th.

I want to note I've never lost a game when I've had Congregate played against me, but have lost games where I've used it.

I think this article is trying to imply that blazing torch can kill a kor firewalker, which is mistaken. Since the torch grants the activated ability to the creature, if the equipped creature is red then you can't activate the ability targeting the kor firewalker. I admit this can be a little confusing since it's the torch dealing the damage, but the creature doing the targeting.

i played last night mono red, i housed the first game by turn five with three arcs, two heat rays, a bunch of goblins.
game two would have been just as quick, but he landed a pro red dude.

then game two i got HOSED! pro red dudes, pro red enchantments and of course, pro red rune. oy! dame you white!!!

  • Drafting Saga for Fun and Profit   15 years 7 weeks ago

I'd just like to note, that I don't think I've lost or won a single game in triple Saga; when I, or they (respectively), resolved Congregrate. It's such a race-based format, that the life gain is crippling. I've also drafted this format about 10 times or so on Modo now, and the best archetypes as near as I can tell are Mono-B, BG, and BR.

  • Freed from the Real #63: Run Rune, Run!   15 years 7 weeks ago

This is a tough sell for me, because I already have my FoWs, Duals, most other eternal staples etc. on Modo. But, I would still like to point out that despite FoW selling for 150 tix on MTGO I believe the cost barrier for entry in Legacy is still way worse in paper. It's getting to the point where the duals online are approaching the prices they're fetching in paper (and this will probably only worsen as time progresses, as the player base online is inherently more likely to expand than constrict), but all in all that gap (legacy cost paper -> digital) isn't really closing. The only real argument against Force of Will being so expensive online, is that the majority of the uber-expensive chase rares for legacy in paper, are not multi-deck staples. Force of Will being played in every eternal deck that plays blue is essentially the problem. Cards with that much functional utility should never be scarce enough in abundance to create a supply/demand situation that is this skewed. This is the only realistic argument I can come up with for why FoW being valued like this is "bad".

Sadly the Burn deck stole your 3-0 but I think that is definitely a 3-0 deck given ok draws.

  • Taking the $ out of $tandard - Goblins ! (Plus sneak preview on a post ROE deck)   15 years 7 weeks ago

Yeah I am inclined to agree here. I hate goblins as a deck type as it forces you to play with horrible cards but the horrible cards do come together and sometimes steal a win.

  • Pauper Times #9 - Pauper Enters The Battlefield   15 years 7 weeks ago

Thanks for running the deck and giving me this input. Perhaps Curfew isn't a good idea then. I only briefly tried Counterspells back when my UG list looked like a normal UW one, but I felt like the deck wanted to tap out too often (draw card + cast it, or bounce + cast it). But my testing was hardly extensive. If Counterspell can fit here, it'd be by far the best inclusion, since it's one of the best cards in the format. Good suggestions.

  • Drafting Saga for Fun and Profit   15 years 7 weeks ago

I've been repeatedly surprised at how few people seem to be drafting black. I have multiple times gotten passed cards like Pestilence and Befoul as pick 5. I've gotten passed Dark Ritual, Duress, and Wretched Anurid as pick 7! Needless to say I won those tournaments. (It doesn't happen every time, but it happens oddly often.)

  • Pure Ridiculousness   15 years 7 weeks ago

yes to put it in context, there was a PRE like 2-3 weeks ago where he brough UGr snakes and I had been toying with a UGr snakes deck myself at the same time that I was going to use for an article that is waiting to go up (in at least a week) so I asked him if he minded me using his list in the article and showing some areas I thought could be improved, one big thing I missed was Brainstorms, which in retrospect was silly.. going into the past weekends PRE I wanted to bring Giants, but I had been continuously second guessing my deck choice and decided this time I'd go with my first instinct, which was the snake deck and it just so happened we got paired in Rd 1

  • Taking the $ out of $tandard - Goblins ! (Plus sneak preview on a post ROE deck)   15 years 7 weeks ago

Well I kind of disagree. Raging Goblin By itself is a terrible card but it feets the deck because its a better that triggers Quest for the Pure Flame and also it powers up a useless Jackal Familiar.

  • Pure Ridiculousness   15 years 7 weeks ago

i always liked UGw snakes. I splashed white for craziness like fetters or glare or condemn. Always great fun too.

  • Taking the $ out of $tandard - Goblins ! (Plus sneak preview on a post ROE deck)   15 years 7 weeks ago

C'mon, Raging Goblin is terrible. We can play budget decks and not play terrible cards like Raging Goblin. Does this deck really need 12-16 one drops? (Bushwacker should almost never be dropped turn 1) Even sligh only ran 8 1 drops. Its not the worse budget deck I've ever seen, but anytime an opponent lays out a Raging Goblin I know I have a win.

  • Pure Ridiculousness   15 years 7 weeks ago

Obviously you are missing the context here. Just Sin TOLD me he was taking my deck and making it better. I was like "go for it!" and he did. 3 color snakes is not your typical snakes deck and snakes has never been a popular Tribal Wars deck anyway (though snakes can be seen in the casual room now and then at about the same frequency as clerics.) But thanks for your input anyway :)
