Just like he said, the idea is to get Vengevine online as many times as possible. Ranger of Eos is surely very nice but this new bird isn't bad either.
And considering the fact that the ranger is rotating out in a short time, this bird will become even more important in decks that like to abuse Vengevine.
Ahh okay hat makes a lot more sense. When I first read the sentence I though he was refering to searching up squadron hawk with ranger. And I was like You can't do that he costs 2, but then I was like LordErman wouldnt make that mistake, then i was like fjhbviurntsvbojs...I dont get it
Thank you for the responses, BTW. I figured that there was some sort of MTGOtraders protocol going on here, and I get that. I'm not trying to ruffle any feathers here. If the management of this site can one day address the situation of cards being linkable much sooner, then I'd be thrilled. But if that's not a possibility, then I really can't complain considering the content is free. Keep up the good work.
Ok... so are you justifying this author behavior then? I'm unsure what to take away from your response.
I appreciate most of the articles on here and I'm a daily reader. I just fail to see the point of preview articles of this nature where the reader has no clue what 80% of the cards even do. Maybe the articles are directed at people that already know the sets inside and out? That certainly isn't me.
I understand the desire, but I actually don't think it is fair to MTGOTraders to bypass the autolink.
You can see with Sea Serpent that I linked to Gatherer because that card is not online and is not currently scheduled to be online. However, M11 will be set up on MTGOTraders soon and then the the cards linked on PureMTGO to the MTGOTraders is usually updated.
If I linked directly to Gatherer, that automatic update would not occur.
If Joshua indicates that linking to Gatherer is preferred for the set reviews before the set is ready for autolink, then I will be happy to do link cards to Gatherer.
As a nonpauper author I have actually done that on occasion and let me tell you it is more work by far. Getting it down to a science requires a set up. Most writers on pure do not want to go through all that.
Also missed Veteran Teacher in a Level deck. Oh and Ghitu Fireeater for recursive damage. There are plenty of others actually. Flickerwisp is insane on recursion given the right board position.
The most interesting thing about the Lich is the fact that you can't kill him (it?) with Terminate but you can kill him with Naturalize!! Funny...
Oh and I forgot to mention one very important thing in the article: As a BYOS player, I'm soooooo happy to have Day of Judgment in M11. Now I can play both Baneslayer Angel AND Wrath of..err.. Day of Judgment in the same deck without selecting ZEN as one of my blocks.
Actually I do find the Time Reversal art impressive on the larger scale but it does not scale well as a magic card. It is much nicer as a background. Still not to my mind a great artwork but definitely attractive to the eye. What would I choose? Well overall M11 art is far superior to past core sets. (Kudos to the art director for that!) I would go with Mana Leak for just pure visual effect. That card makes me want 4 even though I have 4 already. Merfolk Spy has a kind of grim stark beauty to it. Scroll Thief is delicious, but Diminish is the real prize imho. Again this has has as lot to do with how the art looks as a miniature. In large scale I've only seen a few of the pieces so it is hard to say which I would choose then, but I don't think it would be Time Reversal. Again I did see that one large sized and it is definitely better looking that way.
Right, I was just implying there will be that "window" where you can get them for under $10 a pop, probably way under. I also got my Emrakul's for $1 each, not that they're "that" good, but still.
I know that you are interested in painting, so I would really like to hear what you think about the art quality of M11 (new cards only). For example to my totally amateur eyes, Time Reversal looks like Mona Lisa!
What do you think of it? What for example would you choose instead of it from Blue? I would really like to know.
Yes, it is the prerelease card but I don't think that this fact will make it any cheaper.
I remember paying $4,00 for my playset of promo Vampire Nocturnus last year and just after the vamps.dec won a few Standard tournaments, a playset of the same promo card was going for $60,00.
I've made this comment on similar article-types, but it would be quite nice if you (and the other puremtgo authors) could link cards to Gatherer (or somewhere else) in the event that the mtgotraders database doesn't have the new card information yet. As is, these articles are very hard to follow along with.
Does anyone know if Sun Titan is confirmed for the online pre release bonus as well? Emrakul was the same for paper and online but weren't there differences in the online and paper pre release bonus in the past?
Yeah, with the wrath and denial in the deck has BSA's body wasn't quite as important as her Lifelink effect. Battlegrace meant I could play a Sphinx on turn 5, then a Battlegrace on Turn 6, letting my Sphinx swing in as a 5/5 lifelink.
In "this" deck, when budget is a concern, having the first strike on BSA just wasn't a huge concern.
Play them if you have them, they're definitely the best option, but here Battlegrace is a very close second.
Good stuff. Sacred Wolf is a 3/1 though. Ironically, I think a 2/2 troll shroud for 3 mana would probably be better as it dodges tremor effects!

Flickerwisp isnt too good in pauper...

My vote goes to Phyrexian Rager, but seeing as how you've got it listed, I guess I don't have any usefull info. lol

I believe that the same will happen to Sun Titan.

They both give you in hand creature advantage I'd imagine. I could see them in a post-rotation GW/x deck with Vengevine.
Wow, I should have remembered Skyfisher... Good call. Chaining up recursive card advantage is fun.
Great article but I'm still confused over what Ranger of Eos and Squadron Hawk have to do with each other.
Treason, arcrunner, sparky, and keldon with some blink/skyfisher/lion goodness, may prove quite powerful in a White/Red build.

Great article!
I could be wrong, but isn't Sun Titan going to be the (Easily Obtainable) Prerelease card for M11?

Baneslayers go in the Sideboard for games 2-3.

thats a fairly accurate description. When the format was first used heavily it was all combo decks. Like bomberman and such. And no-stick.
