Tolarian blue aka "Stroking Moma" more famously. I had a version of this that placed 5th at NY states at the same year but lost to the first placed and 3rd placed decks also Stroking Moma...popular deck that year.
I like to play the tribes like rhinos in their raw form rather than their sentient half. It would be interesting to see a rhino vs sentient rhino deck play each other.
Anyone interested in PPS might like to look at the Peasant Prismatic Singleton http://www.atfreeforum.com/pps/index.php?mforum=pps forum (don't be fooled by the name, it's for pauper too, they just never joined in calling it pauper when everyone else did).
There are occasional PRE events for PPS both on the wotc forum and on PDCMagic. I think you might be pleasantly surprised by the support once you start looking.
My feeling is, if it's legal it shouldn't matter. I haven't felt the urge to play the PRE because I know the odds are I will face a tier 1 shoehorn deck and that IS a turn off but at the same time I think it is a fault of the format and not the players. I know if I owned the right cards I might bring (my version) of RecSur, etc. I prefer to win, have fun and earn respect while doing so but mostly that is preference. The only requirement I consider essential is players don't be rude, don't cop out in the middle of a match just because they aren't having enough fun and don't act like the end all and be all of the format because that doesn't exist. Other than that I could care less what people bring EVEN when I get annoyed about facing heinous decks in opposition. Bring what you want, it is on me to be able to deal with it. Afaik no one needs my approval (or anyone else's) to be able to play magic.
Rhinos are pretty cool, I have a Bant rhino deck which is fun to play. I hope that a block at some point has Rhino's and Elephants again as sentient beings again like those seen in Mirrodin, Alara and Ravnica.
Er are you sure about multi color cards NOT counting as all colors? Because that has not been my impression. Granted it has been awhile since I created a Prismatic deck of any kind but I remember them counting all colors. Though the client sometimes (randomly) excludes some.
I stand corrected. I checked the client with a deck containing mostly multicolored cards and indeed it only counts one or the other. Something I didn't know all these years. (*embarrassment ensues*). Odd, how it never seemed to come up.
Aura Shards is such a beating particularly in a token generator. Tell your wife at least one puremgtoer agrees with her, even if we didn't know the context of the image. Better safe than sorry Mike. Re my deck, yeah the zoo theme was a hidden trick for you though someone spoiled it last week by mentioning it. It does have some applicability because none of the creatures (except planar guide) are particularly weak but 2/3s generally don't have much weight in multiplayer except as chumpers with decent behinds. So yeah if I owned them in would go outcast (love the dragons for nothing aspect of that), student of warfare, figure of destiny. Not sure about Protean Hydra. He often seems less good when I go to include him in decks. I DID have Meglanoth in this deck and I have absolutely no idea why he didn't make the final cut. Call it a brain fart. I just got Karmic Guide (3.3 tickets ouch! but better than 5) so that would definitely fit. As usual good article. Next week Dromar?
Hey Paul, thanks for the welcome, you would have got a game report or two, but the replays in MTGO, broke during Wednesdays update :(. Thanks for the support.
Heh welcome to Pure Mel :) you didn't mention our adventures together with Boros. (*disappointed face*) Anyway nice article and hope to see lots more like this.
You obviously don’t have to go the token route with Rith, there are plenty of other options. The colors actually are pretty good for just straight beatdown. Paul went a slightly different direction, with an emphasis on white for a bunch of recursion effects. Interestingly, he also includes a bunch of one drops that you typically don’t see in EDH games, like Kird Ape and Loam Lion. If I were to change the deck, I would take out some of these weaker one drops for more powerful versions, such as Dragonmaster Outcast, Protean Hydra, Figure of Destiny, or even Loyal Sentry. I would also add Proclomation of Rebirth and Karmic Guide to help the recursion aspect. The deck’s only other issue I can see is a lack of graveyard hate, so maybe also include Relic of Progenitus. Anyway, this is another way to go with a Rith deck. I really like Meglanoth in a deck like this also.
Open the Vaults. That card really begs to be abused doesn't it? Sadly I am not sure it can be but it might be that a combination of that + the knight exemplars + some other throw away enchants/arts could be worth the try.
Get two knights down and its good to go? Perhaps. :) I do look forward to owning them eventually. I suspect the price will quickly sky rocket if they turn out to be any good at all in standard.
Great article! I'm waiting for Misdirection, Land Grant and (cheap) Daze and Snuff out :P But all those should be out next year.
I still stand by my heavily ungrounded theory that we'll be seeing P9 in MED 4 and that "Classic" will be converted to "Vintage"... You just wait!
Nice article. As a newer player, it's interesting to see some of the old cards and the common decks they were in.
I love 2001 and have been reading the books (up to 3001) right now. Can anyone tell me how 2010 was as a movie?
Post from editing
Great, thanks for the link! I'll have to check the forums more often to try to get into those PRE's when they're offered.

Yeah nice cards luckily sol ring will be online come august 30th.
Yeah that would be a intriguing matchup

"Other colors got Stone Rain effects: green had Thermokarst and Winter's Grasp."
You forgot to mention the original green Stone Rain: Ice Storm.
Cool article!

On this one point I favor consistency: Shoehorned decks do not earn my approval in this tournament.

Whilst I disagree with a few of the specific numbers, I really like this format for discussing Core Set Limited.

Really enjoyed reading through the article, lots of cool deck ideas, and look forward to the next part.
Thanks for the Feedback, I think long term, I will include some more reports.

You're getting some of your wishes... Sol Ring you noted, and also Maze of Ith is a MOCS promo and Blue Elemental Blast is a player reward promo.
Very nice first article I look forward to seeing what you do with the rest of the guilds.
My only suggestion would be to include a few more game reports as two doesnt give a full enough impression of what the deck can do.
Other than that though you captured everything I look for in a article and made it an interesting read.
