• Conquerer & Commander, Vol. XVIII: Rith, the Awakener   14 years 47 weeks ago

Rith and Treya are actually both the females and the other 3 are males if I remember correctly. But ugh, great article, though I cant put into words how sick I am of seeing Uril. Everytime its the same thing derp derp Here's Uril and Enchantments. Like its basically the most net-deckded EDH general around since the gameplan is so horrifyingly obvious. And it's not too terribly good, since they almost rely completely on uril and a handful of other threats.

You guys are definitely right about the pic. I remember looking around for something that fit the requirements and that was the first one I could find. I then promptly forgot about it. I've been looking for a replacement pic but all of them are with my kids. Corporal Hicks it is then.

Sheldon seems like an interesting guy. He said he based his lord of tresserhorn deck off of mine, so I thought that was cool.

The verdant cards are good and worth considering. However I'm generally not a fan of auras, and I don't like waiting for my tokens to accumulate. Plus force costs a lot. I like dragon broodmother though because of the flying. Feel free to tweak and change the list as much as you want.

    Thanks for the comments people.

No - that does not work. REB is modal - and the chosen mode is destroy permanent. You cannot change modes with a Misdirection, only targets. If it had been countering a blue spell, Misdirection could be used that way.

There is a player run event by the name of Tribal Apocalypse which is run by ShardFenix, who posts articles on what decks did well that week, as well as his own take on some tribal aspects. The link to the last article is http://puremtgo.com/articles/tribal-apocalypse-i-will-not-reap-destructi... and you can find a post on the magic boards at wizard here http://community.wizards.com/go/thread/view/75846/25418377/Tribal_Apocal...

Thanks for the rating. Yeah the Balefire Liege would have been a better option. I like the idea of the Orim's Thunder, I tend to be very bad in investigating options outside of sets I've played, plus I'm so drawn to the newer card frames that I sometimes miss good cards like that. I'm hoping to build up my online collection over time to give me, more and more options when building decks, at present I work mostly with what I have and buy a few key cards like Agrus Kos.

  • Adventures in Tribal Land- The Guilds of Ravnica: Boros   14 years 47 weeks ago

Hey Shard, thanks for the nice comment, and more importantly thanks for running the PRE in the first place without it, I wouldn't have somewhere fun to play the Tribal I love so much.

  • Adventures in Tribal Land- The Guilds of Ravnica: Boros   14 years 47 weeks ago

Thanks for the feedback. I like the idea of the Balefire Liege. I will admit sometimes I get greedy on cards and don't play enough land, its a habit I'm trying to get out of. I tend to run Disenchants as I don't always like the idea of having a important combo piece of a opponent sitting under a O-Ring ready to be brought back into play by the O-ring being destroyed but the deck could certainly be played without them.

I would also like to say that it's probably wise of your wife to suggest that you not include your daugther in your profile picture. Although most of the people I know who read this site seem to be nice normal guys, I can't vouch for everyone on the internet.

For a while I had a profile picture of me holding my daughter when she was about a year old. I eventually decided to change it for the same reasons as have been echoed here. Now, I don't mind talking about my daughter online in a very generic way without giving out specific names and locations. I try to avoid devulging too much about my family just to be on the safe side of things.

  • Adventures in Tribal Land- The Guilds of Ravnica: Boros   14 years 47 weeks ago

    Very nice first article.

I would second the motion to replace Glory of Warfare with Balefire Liege as that gives your deck a way to win the game beyond non-flying combat damage. This is especially important considering how popular Moat is.

Also I would replace Disenchant with Orim's Thunder. The one extra mana is definitely worth the possibility of a two-for-one.

  • Conquerer & Commander, Vol. XVIII: Rith, the Awakener   14 years 47 weeks ago

Thank you so much for making the deck I requested. It looks like quite the fun deck, and really looks like it can perform as well. Can't wait to build and tweak it! Seeing you take out Uril was sweet too!

  • Conquerer & Commander, Vol. XVIII: Rith, the Awakener   14 years 47 weeks ago

This is the first article of your I have read. Rith caught my attention as I have a physical rith deck myself. My version, originally being a Mayael the Anima is based on ramping up quickly and getting huge creatures on the field, so I am intrigued by your token stategy. I am curious why there isn't a verdant force or verdant embrace in the deck?

I am a big fan of EDH and consider myself one of the lucky people who gets to play EDH with Sheldon Menery on a weekly basis. One of the things he mentioned about EDH/Commander strategy is simular to what you mention here, and that's not to be the biggest threat at the table first. Usually the person who is next to start showing power is the one who has a good chance of winning due to the other people wasting resources to take out the original table threat.

As far as Rith being female, she is. I am currently catching up and reading all the books in chroniligical order and a few months ago read the books on the 5 primeval dragons. Rith was the first to be awakened and was refered to as a female.

Great article. Now I have a need to go back and catch up on your older articles.

Is there any tribal tournament on MTGO?

  • Adventures in Tribal Land- The Guilds of Ravnica: Boros   14 years 47 weeks ago

    Lythand " benefite of a lightning bolt/healing salve "

    So lightning Helix?

    Lol just picking man

@Mel great article, and I do always enjoy it when players act take the time to explain the how and why of the decks they do bring to the event.

  • Ten Cards I Wish Were Online   14 years 47 weeks ago

Sorry to be nitpicky, but the correct play in your REB example would be to redirect the REB to target the misdirection, wouldn't it? Since aren't targets chosen when the spell is cast, rather than when it resolves in this instance?

  • Adventures in Tribal Land- The Guilds of Ravnica: Boros   14 years 47 weeks ago

Great job on the first article. Here are some suggestions.

Article was a little short for my liking, however if you had provided more match results as already suggested or you could of worked on the manacurve issues and post an updated list. Then that would of been good for me

    Deck suggestions.

For my personal taste I would of run Balefire Liege over the Glory of Warfare. It provides the same pump for your creatures and has the added benefite of a lightning bolt/healing salve everytime you cast your multicolored spells and the benefit of another attacker. I also probably would of went without the Disenchants opting for one more oblivion ring and 2 more lands.

All in all a good job.

    Thanks!

Paul - So it was a test? Funny guy.

No Dromar. If he could bounce colorless cards I would consider him. But he doesn't and therefore isn't effective against Eldrazi.

As for a beginner commander article, that's a good idea. Although the Kaervek deck in my last article comes in around 11 tux which is really cheap. Maybe also a review of cheap commander staples. Things to think about.

  • Ten Cards I Wish Were Online   14 years 47 weeks ago

Holy cow! Wb... is there an article in the works Steve?

  • Ten Cards I Wish Were Online   14 years 47 weeks ago

I wish I played enough to get 60 rewards points for just ONE Blue Elemental Blast. Maybe I'll just buy 60 tickets and be done with it. :(

Looking forward to FtV: Relics for helping my Commander deck!

  • Conquerer & Commander, Vol. XVIII: Rith, the Awakener   14 years 47 weeks ago

Agree with Paul and your wife about a non-daughter-containing-photo as your avatar. Don't take chances.

The problem I have found with the dragons that have to attack to have an effect (Treva, Darigaaz, etc) is, well, you have to attack to get an effect. Sheldon has switched out Darigaaz for Karrthus, noting that a hasty dragon is top notch. I might do that with my Commander deck, ditching Darigaaz for Karrthus, Tyrant of Jund.

I made a Rith EDH deck (physical) and have it ready for anyone that doesn't have one in case I ever play in real life. If they're very nice, I could just give it away since it's just built out of spare (but good) cards. It's kind of a "starter" EDH deck that can be modified by whomever finally gets it.

Have you considered doing an article on how to "break into" edh with a cheap deck? Maybe start with mono colored Commander, flesh it out, add another color/Commander later to add play value?

Your Rith deck has given me at least three good cards to add to my physical Rith deck (Night Soil, Nullmage Shepherd, and Ant Queen). How did I forget about Ant Queen?!

  • M2011 Vs. M2010   14 years 47 weeks ago

    That was massive and mathamatical!

  • Ten Cards I Wish Were Online   14 years 47 weeks ago

Sol Ring? Awesome! Actually all the cards you list would be great to have, especially life force. Something tells me we won't be seeing that one though.

2010 was good for when it was made. Tough to live up to the original though.

  • Adventures in Tribal Land- The Guilds of Ravnica: Boros   14 years 47 weeks ago

Its funny, when I was playing a ton of tribal a couple years ago I used to run into those guys all the time. Glad to know they are still around.

Good first article. I agree on having more reports, but that should be covered by the tourneys.

  • Boosh's Deckbox of Tricks: Flicker Me This!   14 years 47 weeks ago

While I like reading articles here, I far too often get turned off reading an article if I see some glaringly obvious grammatical or typographical errors cropping up right from the beginning. With this one, I just stopped reading after noticing two major gaffes...

    * "Pouring over" is something a liquid does. "Poring over", meaning to examine closely, is what you should have written. Spellcheckers are no good for catching this sort of error, by the way.
    * "... the predecessor ... kind of like the roman republic and democracy" needs capitalisation for "Roman", obviously, but there's still a historical inaccuracy here: it was the Greeks, not the Romans, who invented Democracy. Although you may not have known it, the word Democracy itself is the clue... it comes from the Greek "Demos" + "Kratos".

Like I said, I stopped reading at this point. I might come back and read the full article, but why should I read things that annoy me?
