Also, if you are milling, you don't play creatures at all (okay maybe a few walls here and there). A mill deck doesn't bother to play a creature, play this equipment, equip the creature, attack, mill etc... Way too slow and way too much effort for just 10 cards.
Nemesis of Reason does that all by itself and yet no one plays it.
AND there is the fact that protection from Green and Blue are very unimportant things considering the fact that Red, Black and White are actually the colors that can hurt creatures.
The sword as a whole doesn't make sense at all but of course we don't know anything about Scars yet. Maybe after we see the set we will all realize how awesome this new sword is.
I love list's like this because it can be so hard to see notice good janky cards from amongst the vast collection of stuff out there. And I suppose everything here could find a place in Commander decks as well.
Dreams of the dead combos well with the reverse evoke critters like meadowboon very well.
I'll tell you whats odd about it though, unlike the other two swords the abilities on this one don't really seem to compliment each other. I mean if you're milling why would you want to generate critters? and vice-versa? Seems a little quirky to me.
wouldn't animal magnetism be better in a creature-light deck? It seems like the more creatures you hit, the more likely the opponent is to just give you an elf or something. If you can somehow set it up so you only hit progenitus or something, then it seems ok.
This looks slower than the original version to me, without a 1 drop flyer it's impossible to pull off a turn 2 ninja. You also have lost the bonesplitters leaving yourself with rather underwhelming hitters. I wonder if this deck is fated to lose on time in many situations.
Some interesting cards. I missed most of the Odyssey and Invasion blocks so it's nice to see some interesting cards I haven't seen before. Reckon I might find room for aether mutation in my UG tempo deck. Shame that one isn't an instant though :(
Incidentally, not sure Ana Sanctuary does what you think it does. No counters are involved, so Finks will die like everyone else if you "double tap" it. Still +5/+5 isn't something to sniff at when it's as easy to trigger as this is.
Cool article..useful jank is great fun in the casual room. As a self-proclaimed "cheap" player I was interested to see what cards you liked and which ones I may have missed. Unfortunately I didn't find anything new, but I guess that means I've been doing a good job as a cheap player. Only nitpick I have is that Dreams of the Dead doesn't combo very well with Mulldrifter (at least not without additional help).
Edit: I'll add an extra that I've fallen in love with: Auratouched Mage fetching Fool's Demise is a cute play that's pretty resilient in the face of lots of different board positions.
I must admit that I will tend towards certain words, time to give the article an extra read through to change all the "whilsts"
I do tend to try and be creative with my decks, sometimes this has worked in my favour as I come up with something completely unexpected but often they can back fire.
The dipping into monocoloured cards for additional mill cards or support would have been another way to look at that deck from a Mill stand point.
Also thanks for the feedback and the support much appreciated.
Good job and very nice writing. One small caveat to that. Please stop using the word 'whilst' so many times.
I watched some of your PRE matches and I must say your opponents' decks were just brutal. The power level just creeps up week by week. Kudos to you for doing something creative and fun with the PRE instead of bring cookie cutter I win decks. Every week you bring something different and every week it is surprising.
Mill has had some upgrades but they are monocolored unfortunately. Hedron Crab does nasty things if left unmolested as does Mindspring/Braingeyser given the right timing. That doesn't really help you, needing to fit into Dimir colors AND trigger Circu consistently. I think you built the best possible deck for that considering.
Also mill is especially weak in any format Gaea's Blessing is legal in. That said, a must include is extirpate to handle the potentially troublesome sorcery. This works because at least some of the time your op is going to draw one or more and use them to restore their graveyard to their library at which time you exile them all and proceed to mill without fear.
Annihilators are the ones that nobody seems to like to play against. Although I don't think they are too bad. Although most games I see them in they are hard cast. I think that makes them much more tolerable then when cheated into play.
Two cards in standard that are always trouble are Bloodchief Ascension and Luminarch Ascension. They need to be taken care of before they build up tokens. The Luminarch is especially powerful because it's easier to token up and then very quickly you face a swarm of angels.
I ended up at a conference with some friends for a weekend and heard the best motivational speaker argue points and just make you think twice about what your doing day to day.
Yes that gem is the phylactery. Oh and you are thinking of a demi lich. I believe. Demiliches are usually identifiable by their copiously jewel encrusted skulls (and nothing else). The phylactery for them would be hidden else where though. (and usually more than one. though it has been years decades since I ran a game with them in it.)
1.5? missed that. Have all the first ed books except one...(which one I forget) and have most of the 2nd ed books. I have a lot of 3e books and none of 4.0. Go figure.
You do realize that your entire deck is Standard and could be tuned (and by that I mean almost entirely scrapped) for Classic, right? It does look like a decent Standard Pauper deck though.
The lich has always been my favorite of the Undead. Didn't they store thier life force in a gem that was hidden in the skull of the lich?
I miss AD&D. I had almost all the rules memorized. When versions 1.5 came out I was excited. Then they updated the rules again, and again, and again. Now we are on rules versions 4.0. With all the money I spent on version one when I was a teen, I was quite unhappy all my stuff was outdated and useless, and the fact I would have to repurchase all the books again to get the current rules.
Imagine this. Instead of just providing oracle for card updates, WoTC said that we would have to buy the new cards for tounaments with current and correct rules. I would be mad and quit magic.
I know wizards does AD&D, and they wanted to update the rules for better tournament realism, but the rules have been changes so much between them TSR, and when Gary Gygax and Dave Arneson started the game.
I'm surprised no one else has commented on this very strange card. Not only does it have protection from two colours, it also has abilities that belong to those same colours. Seems kind of conflicted. I wonder if this is a hint towards the character of the new set.
Also worth mention that the mask works incredibly well with other "enters the battlefield" effects, such as Fading, and Vanishing. This opens up Blastoderm, as well as Keldon Marauders, Calciderm, Ravaging Riftwurm, and Waning Wurm, as great, cost effective smashies as well.

I opened a Fool's Demise in the Coalition league... it took me forever to figure out what you're supposed to do with it...
This list helps to explain part of what is so fun about 100CS. Using janky cards is fun stuff! I look forward to the next 50.

Great article! Would you mind sharing what your current deck now?
Flaring Pain in the Goblin sideboard also deal with Circle of Protection and Guardian of the Guildpact

Oh, and Deadly Grub is fun too. I have that in one of my mask decks.
I also like Kjeldoran Dead too. 3/1 regenerate for one black is a good start.

Ah, I'm just dumb. Sorry folks! Thank you middleman for clarifying.
It works in the same way as the current two swords where it has protection from two colours and a related ability of each colour.
You do realize that your entire deck is Standard and could be tuned (and by that I mean almost entirely scrapped) for Classic, right? It does look like a decent Standard Pauper deck though.

Yea thats an old picture of my cat when I first got him. Although you can't tell from the picture, he only has three legs.

What does everyone else think?

New deck ideas are awesome.
