I was going too, but I like keeping my articles around 3-4 pages in length which after a decklist and stuff is about 1500-1800 words. But next week will be a game report and a breakdown on cost so far.

Gratz on your 4-0. My release event didn't end too well :( but that's ok.
Why didn't you use your turn to slag while playing red?

Does anyone know a reason behind Gaea's Revenge jumping up to $8 today?

  • Heirloom: Beware the Pestermites!   14 years 35 weeks ago

A few points to note in my league I do a maximum of five games each week, although this dosent seem much it is when you consider the time zones your player base is spread across.

I will say that running a league is a lot of work on the hosts part and running them back to back does seem like a good idea in theory but would put a lot of pressure on the host. This is why I run mine every other month, but if you are keen to do it and have the time then go for it.

All the details of how I run my leagues can be found here or in my article this week.

It was a battle to get that PRE forum made in the first place. Believe me! I don't think they mind the fact that people run their own events... generally they're not even close to the same space (except PDC, which is fine since it's a gateway anyway...). Actually, Classic enjoyed any amount of success it had to PRE's run by DangerLinto in the years of Classic's non-existence as a supported tourney format. I'm not sure what legal issue they have with them... possibly some online gaming concerns/gambling... hard to say. They never divulge legal things. Corporate decisions still baffle me at time. :/

I wouldn't mind this either. My guess is 28, but I'm not any good at price stuff.

  • State of the Program - October 22nd 2010   14 years 35 weeks ago
I'd expect him to dip to 28-ish for about a day, then start climbing back up from there. There always seems to be one small window where everyone is trying to sell off at once and then things dry up. Being as he's about 32 right now, he'll probably get to his lowest during this weekend's release events. That's my best guess. :)

I like the series. Giving a schedule breakdown really gives an idea of where you are going. I remember from previous articles that cost may be an issue. Since the series seems to be built on creating a collection of Commander cards and decks that overlap and you are going to be carrying over a lot of the cards, maybe a cost breakdown of the new cards that you are adding?

Also, maybe a brief summary of how the deck does this time? Or a game report? It looks like you are going to give a more full report next time, but a little something to give us an idea of how it does as it stands right now would be nice. But maybe that's just me :)

Any predictions on how low Koth will go during the release events? I remember listening to the podcast after M11 and I think you were pretty close to predicting Primeval's low point. I'm looking to pick up at least a few and would like to at a low point.

  • A Commander's Point of View: SoM Set Review   14 years 35 weeks ago

Another card that I've liked so far is Kuldotha Phoenix. The red in the casting cost his high, but being able to bring him back for colorless is nice, and haste is what makes him great. I used Spellbound Dragon and other looters to dump him in the yard, just to have him come back the next turn.

  • State of the Program - October 22nd 2010   14 years 35 weeks ago
Yeah, Koth is one of the few "new" cards in the set. Granted, Mox Opal is cool, and the U/W and W planeswalkers are nice... but the Planeswalkers have competition in whatever decks they'd be run in, and Opal is a 3-of in any deck that even tries to run it... and there aren't many. Koth, on the other hand, is a very unique card to the meta and will hopefully be shaping archetypes for a while! :)

I really really wanted to play in Season 2 after my awesome showing in season 1 with coldsnap, but I just didn't have the time to do so, one thing I think you didn't mention here was a date for season 3, is it too late to jump in or has it already started?

edit: nvm i see it, Nov 1

  • Whats Wrong with Online Constructed, and What Can Wizards Do About It? Outside the Box Ideas   14 years 35 weeks ago

I really like this idea. It is essentially at the cost of 1 booster/year/player for wizards, and means you can generate a slight level of competition in constructed games, but seeing as each match is only going to be worth 1/60 of a booster, the sharks shouldn't be tempted to jump in. I just can't see wizards going for it though. It doesn't really help them at all (except making their customers happy, of course), and could potentially impact their constructed queues?

  • Whats Wrong with Online Constructed, and What Can Wizards Do About It? Outside the Box Ideas   14 years 35 weeks ago

Why do you think they don't have more support for PREs? Set aside the potential legality concerns for a second. The last thing they need are more PREs dragging potential players out of their events. They are a business trying to turn a profit in case you forgot. The one forum they have up now looks a heck of a lot better than nothing.

  • The Coalition League - Season three welcomes you to Mirrodin   14 years 35 weeks ago

Flippers, I just can applaud you for the service you provide. Leagues were the main entertainment of many players back in the day and now thanks to you and your sponsor MTGOTraders, they can once again enjoy leagues.

I was only a part of this fun for a short period during the first league and I wished I had more spare time to be a (bigger) part of it.

Well done and keep up the good work. It is being appreciated.

  • The Coalition League - Season three welcomes you to Mirrodin   14 years 35 weeks ago

Pretty awesome that you've gotten a full fledged league running like this. Necessity being the mother of invention and industry has certianly found a way to bring leagues to life.

Thanks for being someone willing to put in the time to make MTGO better, clearly longer than myself heh.

Why every time I open a good mythic for the Coalition League its price skyrockets down before I can sell it? :(

  • Heirloom: Beware the Pestermites!   14 years 35 weeks ago

Well we had 19 at the last event and as far as I can tell it's continuing to grow, and of course most players only attend half of events so without a specific time I could easily see more people for this.

Without having to have a single time to play the events, instead having people find each other (in the heirloom channel or buddy list) each week to play whenever they can (I'm thinking 1 match per player pair per week with ranking based on most total match wins (not win % since then you could just stop at some arbitrary minimum if you liked your score, and gives people incentive to keep trying to find new opponents, not sure if this is how yours works but that sounds like a natural system)

I would be hesitant to cut a week from the constructed schedule and I just think a league format fills in the gaps of player interest. (since we have a scheduled event this is then a non-scheduled event, and since we have constructed this then is limited)

I like the idea of people posting their league pool since then opponents can check for any fudging of the rules.

Maybe weekly additions of a new pack to each player's pool starting at 6 packs worth? And then new players can just get caught up on packs if they join mid-season. Have a weekly award and a monthly champ then start over each month.

What do you think of all that?

    X-

Rarity Smarity... people want a reason to play, the Ante chips idea is epic, fantastic idea. Love it. Bravo. More.

  • Heirloom: Beware the Pestermites!   14 years 35 weeks ago

I was thinking more of a sealed event to start things off with that way you can run it as an alternative event one week.

You cant really do a league unless you have a large player base ie 30 players minimum. I'm not sure how many you have for your events.

I think a sealed event is the best option to start with as it wouldn't change peoples schedule.

I use a thread in the wizards forum that players have to post their pack contents in and this can be used in the same way for sealed and it makes it easier for you to use the info for articles etc.
