I just played my first game with this deck...so sick. I made a few alterations though...mainly
-Genesis
+Oracle of Mul Daya
and then
-Pendelhaven, -Gilt-Leaf Palace
+Evolving Wilds, +Reliquary Tower
I am trying out the deck myself to later blog about it. I don't see the use of hidden spiders, couldn't that be the spot for something to hate affinity? Crumble their early land seems decent.
Crumble: G istant, destroy target artifact, its controllers gains x life, x=cmc of the artifact.
I'll just take a wild guess as to the pilot's line of thought:
Ever pop a fetchland and then proceed to immediately draw another basic land?
It seems to happen all the time ;-)
I don't disagree with your assessment, fetching first probably is correct, but not doing so seems to actually up the chances of not drawing another basic land with this shuffler.
Standard Pauper deck tech is always awesome. Keep up the good work!
This is an unusual update to Boros. Landfall has become very predictable and has always suffered from trying to keep up with Esper on cards. This thing has more meat on the bones of its creatures and it's amazing how it keeps up on cards. It has me thinking that RW Metalhawk becomes more popular than RW Landfall in the next season.
I bring in one more shinen, the shields and fogs, losing vines, elephant and bonesplitters.
Affinity is always close, if they come out strong AND have the shaman, it's pretty hard to win, but it's also hard for them to recover many times as they have to sac SO many so early. Just need to not overextend, which isn't a problem with stompy, as the instants make the attack, not the volume as seen in goblins. Shinen and ranger make them have to trigger the shaman/disciples asap. Usually a skargaan or ledgewalker takes the game for me. You swing for 8, they do, repeat, and fog. Even if they 'play around' fog, you still get the fog benefit of buying you time for your unblockables to go to the dome.
Overextending is the obvious thing people do wrong vs. affinity. They have to sac the shaman, AND an artifact or two to get rid (maybe)of your one guy, not something any deck can do much of and win.
I was looking for a reliable pauper deck, and yours is really great.
I have played 15 matches so far, and lost only 4 of them. At the moment im pretty much enjoying the deck... ;)
Only downside is that I lost 3 of 3 matches against affinity. This problem mentioned already somebody, but since affinity is very popular, I would really love to hear about how you see the match.
What do you board, and how do you play against a possible krack-clack-shaman (whatever the correct name is... ;) )?
Thanks again for the article, you made my day - and some M11-boosters :-D
( shizzz on modo )
Great videos as usual! The thing I love the most is that I can actually become a better player thanks to you comments and your "live" decision making. Even if you had that much bad luck this time you played it out very well.
I was really looking for a reliable pauper deck, and yours is really great.
I have played 5 matches so far, and won 3 of them (Mirror, Goblins, GW Aura). Both losses were against Affinity (1-2). One I lost due to a play error (this deck IS hard to play) and the other one was kind of chanceless.
Can you give some hints what are the key factors when playing affinity? For example I was totally ripped apart by krak-clack-(whatever-)shaman. My poor Ledgewalkers!
I love the budget deck construction. I don't know if cabal conditioning could be something else to lower your curve because A) you need something good on the field, B) it cost a million mana. Also, the compact desktop is great for when you are on a notebook with a smaller screen like myself.
It seems like {Geth, lord of the Vault} would be a good addition to the deck if you are focused on the discard strategy as would the new {Sangromage} (or whatever she is called). Gaining life is always a good thing and she costs like .15tix.
Really enjoyed these videos. I can't really find the money to play Standard like this but I wish I could.
It's always interesting to see you play with these Tier 1 decks and what decisions you make.
Sad to see how unlucky you were with the deck, you just couldn't get the right draws it seems. Better luck next timne and thanks for an interesting article.
There are A LOT of silly stompy players about MGTO lately. Do your homework people! Don't represent this deck unless your a damn good pilot of it :)
The majority of the time new players lose with stompy, instead of focusing on their play abilities/weaknesses, they're ever so quick to add/subtract new cards, and THEN claim how terrible their results are. This is not a deck for someone looking for a casual game, or wants to throw it together and "Just see..." - you seriously need to set aside some time for reflective game replays, and even have a friend or 3 critique your play, then after a few WEEKS, MAYBE, join a tournament. 2/3rds of Magic is sideboarding...and again, sideboarding stompy is quite the art form - and I'm still learning where I put my paintbrushes sometimes.
I hate to beat this point over the head, but as I can see online, many folks are not 'getting it'. This is not green goblins. It is NOT EASY to play correctly.
I had to look up 'Whiteout' - not that you meant it, or implied it - but I fail to see how this could be remotely tournament worthy.
Hidden Spiders are insane against any air-based strategy from MUC to WW and some others thrown in. If fliers are your aim, there's much better cards to set your offensive sights on. I think the top choices are 1) Hidden Spider, 2) Scattershot Archer - the first being a CRAZY superior choice for winning...anything else is fun for a casual game, but if your serious about winning, look no further than H.Spider.
I'll admit Obsidian Fireheart potentially has multiple uses. For me, I see it as the high end of a cheap burn deck, such as Lightning Bolt, Rift Bolt etc., making sure you get those last few points of damage through.
It's odd that they only give you access to this in game. Thanks - I do like it a lot better, though the graveyard loss is a odd choice. I'm surprised they didn't at least put a tomb stone at the top near health and cards in hand to give you a running count.
Thanks for the good article. It is always a pleasure reading something with some meat to the bone. Especially if it is about Heirloom.
Sidenote: In my opinion Obsidian Fireheart does not work too well in an aggressive strategy. It works though in a more controlish way with red. At least i got into top 8 last PRE with it. :) The deck was still far from perfect but i hope to finlise it during the next few PRE's.
WHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

The deck is so smooth.
Winning with everything was great. Lol.
Nice article, a lot of graphics!

heh I may be crazy but I have gone 3-1 in every DE with the same list :)
and I won an oath matchup by casting t1 crucible t2 eon hub vs a t2 oath :) ( and recurring strip mine the rest of the game)
Thank you for the review, I will keep it up. :D
Thanks for the great article!

ah, was in a hurry. Great point! Didn't see that before sorry guys. Just wrong card for this style deck imo. Great maybe in Green/Red.
His point for whiteout had nothing to do with fliers. The card allows you to sacrifice all of your lands for +1/+1 to Wild Mongrel.
"Sacrifice a snow land: Return Whiteout from your graveyard to your hand."

Keep it up! :)
Thanks for the comment! Yeah I might be trying out some brews later that are cheaper (thought thats relative ever since mythics came around).
Thanks again.

Like the budget deck though.
A look at a MSS draft from a mediocre drafter.

I kinda love the deck, but I really love the videos!
Oh right, I forgot.
I swear this embed html code will be the death of me. The first video is redundant it is supposed to have the deck tech in its place. http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_profilepage&v=xzCIyilOkxc
Glad you enjoyed the article!

You are surprised by poor UI in MODO?
