i think one of the things i looked most to tuesday and fridays was the capture of trending crap cards coming out of nowhere to skyrocket up, like prismatic omen for example. thanks to him letting "us" know i was able to cash them in!
I can't wait for NPH to get online as a new plethora of strategies will become suddenly available. As you pointed out pretty well, the only thing that can beat control is a super-aggressive deck...But they're getting a new weapon as well, and what a weapon Psychic Barrier is!
First of all, I'm glad you are taking up the Mantle here, Pete. I think it's great that someone who's written for Pure before and knows what's happening all over the MTGO spectrum has taken up the Mantle, and I'm sure you;ll do just fine. In fact, I have no improvement suggestions off the top of my head - well done
I really liked the tracking on events. I'll try and use that data to embarrass the classic community into firing more events! (though we are now at 7 events a week, so just firing one will get the % up)
Great that the event fired as it gave me a chance to give the format a proper go after hearing about it from you for a while now. For the record the deck i played was similar to the one you showed off in the videos, with just a few small changes to suit myself.
Keep up the excellent work and I hope to see you all in the next event.
I know, but Vintage isn't Classic and vice versa. I've tried looking at and reading Vintage stuff, but it seems so alien. No P9 really does skew things in a completely different way, or seems to. Anyway, I'll check the guys/sites you mentioned. Thanks!
LOL No need to apologize for having an accent... I mean Hammer has one, so does Zach . . . NYC is a cool accent to have.
@MMogg Metalworker MUD aggro is almost card for card a Vintage port, much like Dredge is. Worker has been putting up some of the best results if not the best in Vintage since Lodestone was printed(Gush being the other but it goes into like 8 decks and Worker is in 1). You'll need them to beat MUD mirror match ups.
Sorry for the accent. I am not he best player to do a Primer on Dredge. TheManaDrain and Morphling.de have Threads and Reports from Bazzar masters like the Gans brothers Jake and Dave, Mark Hornung and Sam Berse. Mat Elias has 2 or 3 part primer on StarCityGames.
What NRK(Timmins on MTGO) said is all correct and I think you guys need to get him on to talk about Classic. Few Reasons are; he is currently in 1st place for Classic POTY, playing a Fish deck he brewed and designed, and all with great results(some odd number like 9 prizing events out of 15 or less entered with the deck).
Get DL to do something on the cast!! Greyes or Blazelix.. All top 5 in standings all with their own different decks. They can all talk about Match ups played out on PenguinTV!
Oh and I think more scripted segments with the guests would help to not only make them more comfortable but rehearsal can lead to more detail or open new topics going into the episode and add to the material.
Funny, looking back at "Episode 6: Frown Town, population- Classic" it was a sad sad day to only have one fired event in the week... fast forward to Episode 14 and it's ceeeeeeeeeeelebrate good times, come on... we omfg fired a f***ing event!!!! =D Sad sad times, indeed.
I do think it's good that you guys are still holding the torch. Blaze on, brave ones, blaze on!
Wow, I didn't follow much the NPH leak discussion so I didn't know the whole(?) French team was "behind" this. The whole situation is a bit sad :(
Still I think they should have balanced the punishment a little more... while being the original "leaker"'s fault it was really the actions of the last guy (very childish despite being a "pro") that caused the real damage.
I'm surprised to this point there has been no discussion over the position of non-Metalworker Staxless Stax builds. I think a lot of people are like me, bought the Shop deck and haven't bought the Metalworkers. I find, as evinced by the "mirror" particularly in G1 of Whiffy TV, that Shop decks without Metalworkers either have to redefine their builds to fight Metalworkers, buy them, or go home. I'm not even sure if the pre-Destiny Shop builds are viable at all. I think it would be nice to do a breakdown of Shop builds, where they are and where they may go. I know it's hard because of the lack of events firing.
Denis, that was some epicness. You've got the best New York accent. Not over the top, but still very easy to hear and identify. Would love for you to do a Dredge article/primer for Classic.
Go Clan Lotus Farmers! 2nd place to Angel of Righteousness! =D Looks like Merfolk was a great call for this event with all those Fish decks swimming around, not to mention Oath. Just needed more SB Dredge hate.
Pack prizes given out in the event that fired were M11, not UZ block.
Energizer was running what looked like your list Whiffy, although I can't vouch for them having exactly the same list - they may not have had 4x bargain etc or 4x Fow, but then I cut that from your list too for lack of blue cards. I had also played against Energizer in the TP room and it looked like your list then too. Perhaps they can come through and post about this.
Regarding fish, selkie is also good in the mirror, not just against oath and jacerator. Dark confidant is starting to become problematic with the amount of fish that is now showing up, and it is less easy to just hand wave away the life loss. Daze is iffy which is why there are only two, but it continues to be a clutch card in many games. It is definitely better on the play than on the draw.
There were two gush decks in one of the last events that fired a month ago, but neither got more than 2 wins. So it is being played occasionally, but it seems somewhat inconsistent and also seems to have bad matchups against oath, fish, shops and dredge. It is quite possible that a really good build has not been created or has not had a chance to shine yet due to variance or pilot unfamiliarity, and it remains a potential contender.
Another great show, keep them coming guys, I've said plenty about the leaks in other forums, suffice to say you guys have said it all in the podcast already.
Enjoyed the podcast guys. Glad an event fired for you all, as I missed the analysis of the money decks.
For Whiffy, I took your MUD list (Whiffy T.V) for a spin and liked it alot. I agree turn 1 worker is devastating when you get to that second turn. However I have been burned a few times giving the player a sphereless next turn, seeing all sorts of unpleasant shanningans, that I wouldn't have seen had i dropped a sphere effect. Have to test it more I guess and see what's best.
Zach I totally agree with you on the financial aspects / implications of the NPH leak. That is a potential for buying and selling up mass cards before the general population knows what hit them. I think that is a huge and unfair advantage for whom ever has that information.
Also like when you have guests on. Nice to put a voice to the names i see on CQ.
Looking forward to the next podcast and have a great weekend.
Finished watching the videos. You're using Camtasia, so to stop the annoying random zooms, start deleting all of the zoom keyframes on the timeline (they look like little blue diamonds between the video and audio in the Studio interface). You can enable some option that disables the auto-zooming, but I don't know exactly where it is.
I threw that Grixis deck together and tested it against Kiblers UB Infect list, a BW Caw List and a Big Red list and it rocks. I dropped only one game and no matches during testing. I only own 3 Jaces and 3 Koths for paper so I put in +1 Galvanic Blast and +1 Lightning Bolt. I'm gonna do more testing but so far I'm in love!
Oh my, I was pretty sure it said "return target permanent". That's kinda embarassing! :D
As you pointed out, that makes Skyfisher's ability even stronger against removal and makes counterspells the best way to deal with it. I hope the new pseudo-"Remove Soul" from NPH will help in this fight.
Are you sure about that? Normally, yes, but given the, ah, unusual, circumstances surrounding NPH this *might* change. They've been conducting the beta tests for a couple of weeks now, when they don't usually start until after the live pre-release.
Ty for your step by step on your draft and since everyone else has said something about the land zooming i am not going to say it lol. I love draft and being that i have been playing magic for 15 years i have never been that great at drafting but with peeps like you and others on here i have gotten alot better at drafting so ty very much for your hard work.
good start, only 990k words to go!
i think one of the things i looked most to tuesday and fridays was the capture of trending crap cards coming out of nowhere to skyrocket up, like prismatic omen for example. thanks to him letting "us" know i was able to cash them in!
stuff like that.
keep it up.
Top notch read as usual!

Ive got a very slight accent. Comes out mostly when I am too excited. Usually though people do not guess that I'm from "Da Bronex!"
I agree that accents are cool. :) Helps pin down where you're from. :D
Hi Guys, love the show

Dennis and Zach... city mouse, country mouse.
But Zach is still too quiet :(

I hoped it would come out early, but someone told me the leak didn't change the time they would release it.
Thanks for the feedback!
I really appreciate the zoom advice, I will disable :)
I think the vids would have been much better without them, and next week's installment will not contain any....
I will also go back and watch the round 2 timeout suggestion, thanks again

If Wizards won't let his widow get his passwords, there's something seriously wrong with that company.
