That's also an issue with Kubrick or Cronenberg movies: you can't show them to your regular 3-year old. :P

    (Isn't MTG PG-13 anyway?)

Liliana isn't bad, she's just drawn that way. :)

    Hi Pete and readers,

Quick question... When does one sell release stuff (opened mythics etc) Am I correct in thinking that right now is the worst time? In other words.. after the Pre release spike, the curve goes waaaaay down and then climbs up a bit a little later?

  • Ars Arcanum: Innistrad Limited Overview   13 years 38 weeks ago

I really like your articles. You have a good natural progression, you edit well, and you are thorough.

    Good work.

As an aside, I deal with the prereleases the same way. I refuse to pay more when I know I don't have to.

The superimposed Obi-Wan did not go unnoticed!!

I am certified to teach English as a second language (though I don't). My major in college was Linguistics. What kinds of language classes do you teach?

  • Conqueror & Commander, Vol. LXV: Innistrad Overview   13 years 38 weeks ago

I've been grabbing Innistrad cards for my Rhys, the Redeemed deck and I must say innistrad has been fantastic for EDH in my opinion. I do think you overlooked Intangible Virtue though. But great article.

If I thought merely pointing out how wrong you are was enough, then I wouldn't have to tell you to go fuck yourself.

  • Ars Arcanum: Innistrad Limited Overview   13 years 38 weeks ago

Wow, that was a really good article. Excellent analysis of Innistrad limited. Your decision to review so many games was clearly a great response to the "I'm not going to pay through the nose for the prerelease" experience disadvantage. I think this is going to be a pretty fun limited environment as well.

    Hi Michael,

Echo Zach above that we would love to have you on the show after your move.

From memory I think I was asked which two cards would you restrict from Shops if the deck was dominant post Tanglewire. I think the #1 target is Spehere of Resistance and so my argument although maybe not well articulated was that restricting Chalice of the Void would be my choice of the second card. Not my intention to make Shops unwinnable :-)

Hope you guys like the other content and the timestamping etc.

Laboratory Maniac - the good players will start holding instant speed spot removal to take this guy out in response. Or even sweep on their own turn if you can't just win right there. Test subject reads "Pay 13 and hope your opponents don't kill it in response: get a 13/13." so yeah not amazing if you are facing removal but 13/13 is a huge defender, attacker and can be sacced to effects like fling for much damage. I wouldn't totally dismiss it.

"Rakish Heir - Obviously meant for vampire decks, I just wanted to say that it's strange to see a skinny guy wearing a corset in Magic." yeah those are usually found on the fat guys.

"Grimoire of the Dead - Oh yes, the Necronomicon! I just hope that the face on the cover won't try and bite me. Unfortunately it needs a couple of different things to go right. First, there has to be stuff in the graveyards that you want to come back into play, meaning that it either has to be played in the late game, or you have to go the mill route. Then, if you want to make sure that it gets used before it gets blown up, you have to proliferate or find another way to add counters quickly, like untap effects. Is it easier to get going than Liliana Vess? Maybe, but at least Liliana has other uses as well."

It can be a backup plan Living Death as long as you aren't too reliant on it. I'd much rather this get hit by removal than my sol ring etc. And in addition if you do fire it off it is more like a living death + insurrection.

Well I guess I could nitpick a lot of your comments as I think this set is fairly deep for commander and many cards will see play even if they are subpar just because of availability and novelty.

I fully agree with your article.

    Seriously:
Change the stupid trading mechanics. Every more or less decent game provides better trading possibilities. And they are NOT TRADING Card Games.

  • A Pauper Primer   13 years 38 weeks ago

Ah yes, one of my pet peeves, the practically worthless article about Pauper. Anybody that wants serious information about Pauper, go to a site dedicated to Pauper. An article like this helps no-one, except the author I guess.

  • Tarmotalk - Snapcaster Mage Says Hi in Classic   13 years 38 weeks ago

I really like how you explain all your moves and thought process in the videos. If you do another one of these, you should slow down the replay speed in the settings so that when you press play the game moves at a reasonable speed.

  • The Trouble With Magic Online.   13 years 38 weeks ago

you are so right , i don't play PR since payout is worse then anything else
we should compare this to poker which in my eyes is very close to this game.

  • The Trouble With Magic Online.   13 years 38 weeks ago

Of course it does. People want the product soonest. WOTC knows this from observing paper prerelease sales and demand. Some people are willing to be ripped off to be first (check out the initial prices people paid to get things like a ps3 or iPhone.)

O man I just noticed I forgot to put the cast back in mono channel post edit....

Sorry for the Me on left "them on right" audo gents...

  • Yawgmoth's Soap Opera Episode 37 : A Tangled mess at Port   13 years 38 weeks ago

That is fair, and to be fair we should give someone such as yourself a chance to come on and discuss your positions regarding shops and the masqued menace.

We would love to have you on Michael, I think we were missing the shop player's perspective (although I can say most have the spike mentality :P )

    Let me know man,

    Zach

  • Yawgmoth's Soap Opera Episode 37 : A Tangled mess at Port   13 years 38 weeks ago

Tangle Wire discussion and restriction discussion was horrible, in my humble opinion.

    Andrew: restrict Chalice.
Whiffy: But Shops can still win without Chalice.

    >_< So you want to make the deck unable to win? It's not even that I'm a Shops fanboy, it's that the format right now at this moment seems pretty balanced with a bunch of different decks winning. Why is it no one mentioned restricting Tangle Wire itself? o.O If that is the card that you are supposing will disrupt the harmony of the format, why not deal with it directly?

What I think irks me most is that the same fears swirled around prior to Metalworker's release and Classic survived. The same hypothetical discussions about Shops domination and about restrictions took place and in the end, the format was healthy and adjusted and I think the same thing will probably happen here. If it doesn't, why not just deal with Wire itself, just as Trinisphere is restricted for making the game "unfun"?

  • Tarmotalk - Snapcaster Mage Says Hi in Classic   13 years 38 weeks ago

Snapcaster is broken. Wont be long before it becomes a staple in every format.

  • The Innistrad Release Event Survival Guide   13 years 38 weeks ago

Yeah, this is a much better wording than my comment :D

  • The Trouble With Magic Online.   13 years 38 weeks ago

The entire concept of the "prerelease" is a scam.

The prerelease was invented for paper magic to smooth distribution issues. They needed to get product to everyone in time but didn't want to ship much in advance of the release date, so they sent out "enough to play" with the "enough to sell" quantity then coming a week later. Thus the prelease was there to cover the week when the set was fully spoiled but couldn't be sold because not everyone had received their supplies yet.

None of this has the slightest relevance on MTGO. There 's no reason to even HAVE a "pre" release except to manufacture scarcity and charge a premium. But apparently it works.
