So the verdict is that you need to be able to predict the future to make money speculating on cards? Whodathunk?

I guess that if you invest in a crystal ball and make a deal with the devil, then you can make money shorttrading on MTGO.

  • State of the Program for April 20th   13 years 11 weeks ago

You want to know what is money right now? And you can ask Heath.

    ISD foils.

There was a store that bought 30 foiled playsets to redeem last week, and other stores are doing it, and I am doing it also. It has brought the price of terrible mythic foils like Army of the Damned from $5 to $11, and that's a low price.

Liliana has skyrocketed from 25 to 35, Geist of Tramp Stamp is $30, it's insane right now. And try to get a foiled Forbidden Alchemy. It's close to impossible.

I can't blame you for not doing so, but as LSV says forcing mono red is most def an archetype. Try taking a look through the packs. No one at the table is playing red.

Im actually a little sad. I would never play RDW but you had some gumption and tried to tech it out a little. Keep going for top 8 and then you can lose again :)

Great article as always. I like how this series seems to be pushing you out of your normal comfort zone and into playing some different decks.

  • Yawgmoth's Soap Opera Episode 54: One down, eight to go.   13 years 11 weeks ago

I hope you're happy. I lost round 1. Cownose had his own bolts to speed things up and figured out that using fetch lands just helped me. Plus I had to mull to 6 twice. You were right, no flashback on Bump; the game didn't go that long. Wheel of Fortune worked out though.

  • Common's Corner   13 years 11 weeks ago

Other than saying that Delver is a very good card, I'm not really sure what the focus of the article was supposed to be. You start out by saying "I will bring you the in's and out's of the Common's in Standard format." but the article isn't about Standard nor is it about commons. It's just an article about a common from a Standard legal set. I was never really sure where you were going with the article because you never said how you were going to be examining the card.

The thing most noticably absent from the article is an explanation of why Delver is so good. You seem to imply that Delver gets played turn one and then it becomes a 3/2 flier on turn two. While that does happen a lot, it's certainly not guaranteed to happen. The trick is to either maximize the chances of that happening or to maximize your opportunities once the Delver finally does transform. Achieving either of these goals will depend on what type of deck you're playing. What the article needs is some form of statement like "The type of deck you play will dictate what instants and/or sorceries you'll have that can transform the Delver for you." Then you can give examples of what instants and sorceries are in the different deck types and how those cards work with Delver. But you never even come close to saying anything like that. You just name a few deck types that Delver can fit into.

Honestly, I think you do have some good ideas and I do think you have every intention of writing a good article. But you really need to work on developing a focus and deciding exactly what you want the article to say. And you might want to have someone else read it to make sure that what you're trying to say does come across to the reader.

Thank you, and i agree entirely. More eyes = better. Thanks for your input, i will be making it better thank you!

  • Common's Corner   13 years 11 weeks ago

9 out of 17 apostrophes in this article are used incorrectly. *tears own eyes out* Is there no one editing these things at all?

I really don't want to be hard on you because you're obviously trying and want to put out content to help the community but as the other poster said, your writing/punctuation/grammar really needs some work. If pureMTGO does in fact have editors, they're falling down on the job. If not, find a friend who can at least proofread your articles for you prior to sending them off to be posted. Everyone can use another set of eyes on their writing to catch the things they miss.

In short: The content is good, but writing needs work. Keep at it!

I think your draft was mostly fine, but you didn't settle into being control or aggro very well (or aggro control) so you had too little removal for a slow control deck and too many slow control cards in the deck. I think you should have just played the deck with the aggro-control cards cutting necromancy, willbender, and probably shackles; this makes your deck much more aggressive and allows you a chance to actually play kokopuffs or profance command as finishers rather than the last card you played before you died.

Also, value the manafixing much higher; P1P5 is a great example. That pick is either one of the lands or the red cards. If you're sure you want to be blue, take the BG card since there are all sorts of B or G cards that complement U decks in this format. 2 picks later, you repeated this mistake, take the manafixing instead of the above-average fatty.

Most of this is just experience with the format, but that's what I saw.

I was curious why no one was talking about the power on Mastery, but I guess if you didn't see it then you can't comment lol awe-some and you def nailed the fact that with the new delver world we live in, printing this is nuts

and I def think you guys should keep score on the match predictions

  • Common's Corner   13 years 11 weeks ago

Glad to hear that you will work on your writing, although I am not sure that you'll be able to sufficiently improve your english in time for your next article (unless all those mistakes aren't caused by your inexperience in language, but by you not trying enough).

I would suggest that you run your articles through someone who is proficient in english before you send them for publishing (since I am not sure editor/editors here actually read them).

  • Common's Corner   13 years 11 weeks ago

Couldn't finish reading the article since I was constantly distracted by countless grammar mistakes and *terrible* writing style (I know it's popular to throw a bunch of dots around these days (style that I call "women's magazine style" because all women write like this in women's magazines (at least in my country)), but you took it to the whole next level of terribleness. You used dots where there is zero reason for doing so, to the point that it almost looks like you threw them around in random fashion, just to interrupt the flow).

I don't know how an article like this can be published anywhere, let alone on the site that pays authors for their work. I mean, did the content manager actually read this, and thought to himself: "Yes, this is good enough to publish"?

  • Common's Corner   13 years 11 weeks ago

I am sorry you couldn't finish the article. I will work on that. Thank you for your critisizm. The next one will be better.

  • Anything But - The Little Things   13 years 11 weeks ago

sounds like the start of Pauper Caw-Go lol

  • Anything But - The Little Things   13 years 11 weeks ago

Your ending of the article did remind me of another nice interaction with Trinket Mage. It shuffles the deck. Which there is a fairly large lack of options for in Pauper, and one of the strongest cards in Magic is Brainstorm, if you got shuffling. Most also know this goes well with Squadron Hawks for extra draws, and blue and white does offer momentary blink.

Another fun card to use with the Trinket Mage is the Myr Adaptors.

Anyway it is something to consider. :)

    Aye

As if Jace TMS didn't already work enough miracles. ;)

  • Freed from the Real 166: What else does Avacyn Restored have in store?   13 years 11 weeks ago

haha, yeah I am sure that miracle will give many people a one way ticket to the TILT-o-whirl. I look forward to being on one side of it, at least.

Glad we can help with the tedium that is laundry!

  • Freed from the Real 166: What else does Avacyn Restored have in store?   13 years 11 weeks ago

I tend to agree Grasharm. I tend to think that the miracles that will end up being most successful are going to be ones that have reasonable casting costs, since that is what you will be doing 95% of the time.

  • Freed from the Real 166: What else does Avacyn Restored have in store?   13 years 11 weeks ago

Though timewalking with a JTMS in play.... :D

  • Freed from the Real 166: What else does Avacyn Restored have in store?   13 years 11 weeks ago

I don't think miracle is broken in con. It will be a huge thing in limited. Mark my words, this will be somthing you will see people complaining about in the limited chat. They will be like me and my mill hate tantrums I scream about. I whine like a little girl. Some of the creatures I don't care for becuase I like multi-player games the demon 7 life thing is wrong. I like 2hg more than EDH, but he will appaer alot in both i'm sure. Seem's like somthing those Fruit loops clan or the NO_ clan will use. Anyway another great time listening while I fold my laundry.

  • Conqueror & Commander, Vol. LXXX: Chromium   13 years 11 weeks ago

As you know Living Death is one of my favorite cards and reanimation a favorite theme of mine. Great fun, though I suppose when faced with 3 other reanimation decks your fun is cut a little because everyone is competing for the same resources.

One thing I would do is play the Trinket Mage package: 1 top, 1 nihil spellbomb, 1 elixir of immortality and maybe the removal artifacts at 1cmc.

  • Freed from the Real 166: What else does Avacyn Restored have in store?   13 years 11 weeks ago

I think most people that are worried about this mechanic are also overlooking it's already been done. Djinn of three wishes, Nivix, Minds Desire, Galvanoth, ect. These all take the top card of your deck and let you cast them for free. The only real impact I see here is the obvious synergy between Miracle and Delver type decks.

Also I'd like to point out a major drawback to this mechanic. It's only the first draw. This means that if you are drawing more than one a turn and this is the second card you pulled your SOL. This combined with the fact that they are overpriced mana wise for they do when hard cast and your looking at no real gain. I may get one or two off for a reduced price but then I just spend that mana I saved to cast the one in my hand,
