I did not know that such a card exist. hehehe. still don't know a lot of cards since coming back last october. I'll make sure to add that one. If you know other cards that has that kind of effect I would gladly try it out next time..

Believe it or not, the game in the video with Malum was the best I did that day (I dropped after 2 rounds). I definitely needed more land in a deck that doesn't do much until I get all 5 colors of mana. That was the only game where I actually got 5 lands into play, but I didn't have all 5 colors.

The Bottle Gnomes were just a target for the White Bringer.

I will have that info in State of the Program each Friday, because I do try to find all that info. I also include links to the sources in most cases (I don't link Twitter, etc.)

I would have expected Heroes' Reunion in that role, but I guess getting landfall and having a simpler mana cost makes it viable.

I am feeling old. I still think of Renewed Faith when I think of instant speed lifegain. I keep forgetting how ancient Renewed Faith is. It is not Modern legal.

Did you have Grave Pact? That is very good with creatures that sacrifice themselves.

Wizards has a highly annoying habit of placing information in a number of sources. If you don't follow the site, the group, the blog, the arcana, and at this point twitter as well you are likely to miss out on information. In this case it was the weekly post in the group about the downtime, about halfway down.

That's the current info you would be looking for.

I was actually looking for a true underdog and saw carrier was one of them and since all the carriers must be sacrifice the only cards that i can think of to be in combo with it are blood artist and falkenrath noble. I was actually searching what cards are good to help creatures that has to sacrifice themselves. If there is a black card that you can recommend to be used as combo for the carriers it would be a great help for me the next time I play it. I was thinking of adding damnation and other wrath effect cards but it would take me into an orzhov color and i really think that carriers should win in a pure color black deck since they are all black. I'll try and change tactics next underdog with those carriers..

The Modern Gifts deck you highlighted does not have a typo. Rest for the Weary is a decent life gain measure against aggro decks and when combined with Snapcaster, it can nearly reset your life total. Rest in Peace in a Gifts deck would be anti-synergistic.

Can someone please show me how to find out about upcoming events? All I know about is the wizards.com calendar page (http://wizards.com/Magic/Digital/MagicOnline.aspx?x=mtg/digital/magiconl...) which doesn't seem to mention Nix Tix events on the 13th or any other day.

By "We" I assume you meant "me", Andy. Charles is a real character and I'd like to STP his face.

He blew a kiss at Josh after the podcast too...

The Savannah is obviously to allow opponents to gain life from Lifetap.

The only other thing I can think of is that, given his largely singleton-oriented style, he might be missing the other white fetchlands in his collection and is using Savannah solely to fetch white mana with Misty Rainforests if the Tundra is already in play.

This game has cards about children staying up past bedtime, and mischevious pie-theft. A cute little bear cub isn't THAT out of place.

Wow an outstanding week all told! Grats to Malum for being able to pull off the Biovisionary win! Also Slug for his extortion thrulls, nicely done. I am guessing AJ's collection wipe didn't go so well for him. Grats to Ayanam for getting Rex's challenge done. I had hopes of doing that myself but I just never seem to be around in time to join.

Most especially loving the Ratanimator deck. Naga is typically an innovative builder so not too surprising. Robin actually told me what the Savannah is for but I am not sure it is my place to put out here publicly. Best to ask him, if he wants to clear up the mystery. :)

  • Bears   12 years 16 weeks ago

You must admit it's a pretty saccharine looking bear cub. Like, completely uncharacteristic for the game it's in.

One of the reasons why redemption spiked Worldwake mythics so much was that people wanted a paper playset of Jace, the Mind Sculptor. He was more valuable in paper (and people could use him in Legacy decks, which aren't generally used online). Giving players a reward for doing well online that ties into the paper game is perfect. Of course, since it's Modern, I will probably try my hand and fail miserably. ^)^

RE: Editing - I produce/edit movie trailers for a living - but I don't know of any consumer-grade editing that's worth much. There are great versions of FCP (Final Cut Pro) for free out on the web, the latest one is the least powerful, but easiest to use. Personally I use Avid...but that's a pretty big chunk of change unless a free copy is about.. Know this - like anything, 99% of the interface of any editing program is garbage - don't let all the buttons confuse/distract you. Simplicity is king - cut/fade are all you need...the second someone starts using jigsaw wipes etc.., it reeks of freshman newb in a bad way :) Keep it simple...keep it elegant.

And about Bear Cub: we can't blame Ron Spencer there. They told him to draw a bear cub, he drew a perfectly fine and lovely bear cub. The thing is: what the hell the creative team was thinking when they decided that a cub has the same exact statistics of a full, adult, grizzly bear? No, worse, it's plural: it's a GROUP of grizzly bears that fights as effectively as a single cub! (And don't even get me started about the flavor text: you can't justify a card mechanic with the flavor text!)

  • Bears   12 years 16 weeks ago

I give this article 5/5 firebears.

  • Bears   12 years 16 weeks ago

Wild Mongrel - seriously, if this was a new card people would devote articles to it.

  • Bears   12 years 16 weeks ago

Fantastic. Love it when articles take long divergent looks at the artwork. My taste in mtg art isn't quite the same as yours, and I tend to forgive alot of the quirky stuff its technical flaws, but I greatly enjoyed reading it.

Your bit on Forest Bear was hilarious. In addition to bad art, the flavor text seems woefully misguided. Personally, I think if I had bear paws I could probably have MORE fish, as bears seem rather adept at catching them. Swing and a miss, ancient Chinese culture!"

Geese, we thought Charles was a real bright spot this week. Kinda of reminded us of when the Hammer was the straw stirring the drink.
I gotta tell you GB, I was floored when I saw you get a memnite countered with a Spell Burst. One of the craziest things I have seen in my Classic career.
