Amusingly, that statement is true whichever format gets replaced.

There are no heros in Ferguson. Having troublemakers come into town from as far away as Oakland and New York City just to burn and loot is not helping anything. It's hard for either side to get their message across when they do not have the high moral ground.
I think the reason middle America is not more sympathetic is the video of people throwing Molotov cocktails and breaking into businesses and shooting at cops.
There's an old saying in law enforcement: "I'd rather be tried by twelve than carried by six."

  • Diaries of the Apocalypse: Tribal Week 189   10 years 42 weeks ago

I like the idea of doing regular tribal twice a months on some months. Regular tribal is something we all like to play, it's why we are here. So you would be putting a format everyone likes in place on one that a lot of people don't like.

  • Diaries of the Apocalypse: Tribal Week 189   10 years 42 weeks ago

K-scope tribal needs a shot in the arm. Looking at it, there are a number of extant issues:

*Oversoul of Dusk. Protection is strong in the format, triple protection even more so. I advise limiting it to its tribes.

*Knights, Goblins, Elves. The big three have a critical mass. I might suggest benching them for a session, seeing what people come up with, or identify lynchpins. Maybe remove cards that have been banned in Modern.

  • Diaries of the Apocalypse: Tribal Week 189   10 years 42 weeks ago

Oh, I don't really blame anyone and anything, and I'm positive it's mostly just random shifting (on the bright side, I'm pretty sure we had about a 50% change in the player base since one/two years ago, maybe even more. I mean, even the contender for 1st place is a newcomer this year). But I have the duty to interrogate myself, and the community, about what's happening, or if something is, in fact, happening.

Maybe the Khans of Tarkir block will give more fuel to K-scope Tribal.

And Singleton is definitely healthy. Goblins were predominant this time. Of course they're popular, they always are, everywhere. But Singleton has had a number of different tribes at the top so far.
Sometimes it's just about what the top players choose (the top players also include the most successful budget players). They would maybe win with a different tribe, too, but they chose that one, and sometimes they stick with it because they like the deck.

how much time do you typically need for a decision? probably no more than 30 secs.

I'm not sure how much of a delay I have during my streams, I am going to start streaming a daily every week day again on Monday so I guess that will be as good a time as ever to figure out!

  • Diaries of the Apocalypse: Tribal Week 189   10 years 42 weeks ago

Attendance is down...because it is. No predictor indicates who will show up and when. Don't put too much weight on any single factor. There may be a certain amount of ennui associated with some sub formats and others like myself may just find their priorities have shifted away from Saturday mornings. (Yes I know it is technically afternoon but for me to be able to attend I need to be awake in the morning and that isn't really my idea of fun.)

Imho Slugapalooza should not be about slug tribal which is clearly one of the most hated tribes in existence based on WOTC R&D output. If you want to honor Blippy go back to the first rule of having a slug in your deck. That made a lot more sense to me without totally derailing individual creativity.

I like Kaleidoscope. I like Ktribal. I haven't shown up because of the greater inconvenience to me of the time slot. (Yes I know, I am a terrible person.) It may be that the format needs a few more cards before it gains the flexibility to be viable without falling into specific tribal ruts.

The same can be said for Tribalton. Goblins were predominant? Shocking! Not so much, though I was surprised there was no Angel representative. Angels seem to shine in singles.

Just keep doing what you are doing. There will always be ebbs and flows. Don't blame yourself for the tides of change.

Congrats on level 7 already :D It took something like 50 matches and 7 or so years before I achieved level 27. And then nothing for 13 years since... :D Also apparently we are on the same general wavelength re: Ferguson. No Justice, No Peace, No Surrender. I don't mean to be militant sounding because what I am stating is not a slogan but an observation. It seems that some behaviors don't change so easily just because we make not doing them into law.

If you stream on a significant delay collusion shouldn't be an issue.

I'm not certain what 'reviewing' entails, but I'm excited to find out!

Thanks as always for reading and for the strong ratings!

I like the cut of your jib Frankie. However I feel compelled to tell you that you need someone to proof your articles for you. You can't expect Josh to find all the typos (especially ones like 'your' for 'you're'), grammatical errors and in a few places incomplete ideas or sentences that are confusing to read.

The deck idea itself is right up my alley and I have experimented with similar decks for casual play. I don't know that Standard really has a top tier place for a deck that includes Trading Post (yet) but it certainly is very playable in the format as a casual style deck.

    Keep on writing!

Just dropping you a line to let you know I selected July 31sts The Modern Perspective to review in my upcoming August article. I also mentioned this one as well.

I have a short history about trading on the new client.

When someone hit trade with you.. and you are not paying atention (maybe you are in another room at the moment) you just miss it because there are NOT any sound alert to warning you... Well, but sometimes you are back to the computer in time and then you accept the trade, but nothing happens! What's next? You are not allowed to trade anymore! You right click on someone and the trade option are disabled! So you have to disconnect and connect back.

    Nice client.

I do my best to not take a look in my cards because that collection screen is sooooo unfriendly. Build a deck is out of question.

    Nice client.

I have been able to resolve crashes in v4 for a number of people I've talked to by doing 2 things.

    1. Update .net

    2. Install the latest version of the video drivers for your chipset

If you aren't sure how to do either of these things, let me know and I can provide more details.

What about Hollowhenge Scavenger? A hasty 4/5 that gets you 5 life can't be that bad.

  • Diaries of the Apocalypse: Tribal Week 188   10 years 43 weeks ago

It's not banned in Singleton, nothing is ever banned in Singleton.
It was already banned in Kaleidoscope by the format's restrictions.
    It's essentially unplayable in Underdog.
It would have been banned in Pure soon enough.

So, it's only about Regular. Regular needs to be preserved a little, lest it becomes the most annoying event of the month. We had a Regular event where almost everybody was piloting Elf, Goblin or Human. Then we had the Regular event with the smallest attendance of the year.
Everybody building Elves builds Mantle.dek. Enough is enough. There are other ways to build Elf, and this is the right moment PRECISELY because it doesn't feel ad personam.

  • Diaries of the Apocalypse: Tribal Week 188   10 years 43 weeks ago

I don't understand why you're banning it now when it hasn't won an event in ages and the metagame has finally adjusted to its presence (hint: keep mana up to kill the creature when they go to equip it). It's only a thing in two of the events and you're banning it in all four. Why not ban a load of other things in singleton too?

  • State of the Program for August 15th 2014   10 years 43 weeks ago

I have no problem using shiny on my Vista machine (although I have intel quad core q6600 and 4GB RAM).

  • Diaries of the Apocalypse: Tribal Week 188   10 years 43 weeks ago

Nothing done against the #1 tribe in the meta can be called unfair. And I never promised anything, I just declined to ban the Mantle in that occasion (which is FOUR MONTHS AGO, by the way). Now it was the right time. And Elves won more events without the Mantle that they did with, so it's not really a matter of "Oh my God, now they're unplayable". They used to win Legacy tournaments back when the Mantle didn't even exist.
