Thanks Much TW. Seems great for people who want to spend some tix. :D Still worried a bit about the drop of the power. Been regretting throwing down tix for the Mox Jet I got a while back. It is worth about 20 less than it was and that's probably going to drop even further. But hey :) more for everyone.
"When we talk about Abzan as a clan, it’s important to remember that this is an umbrella that includes WBg decks, BGw decks, and WGb decks."
Is there a particular reason why you dont include WBG in this description ?
The default meaning of playing a clan means WBG to me (no splash), though I do agree that playing BW with g-splash means you are playing Abzan (a clan) but that is beneath the umbrella of WBG(no splash).
What does "splash" mean anyway ? Its so subjective in my experience.
That said, I do find your articles very good and enjoyable, keep up the good work !
Well thank you both, I use Camstudio and haven't been too happy with it as of yet but I will check out both of those. I want to start doing video content asap.
My issue with the new client comes down to one main thing. My computer can't handle the program.
I used to play every day and had very few issues with the old client. My favorite format is sealed and I would play at least 4-5 4 pack sealed events every week in V3. With V4, I can barely finish a match without running out of time. I've lost more matches due to running out of time than I've won since the switch to V4.
This past weekend I played for the first time in 3-4 weeks. I did a KTK 4 pack sealed. Round 1 my opponent had a better deck than me, but I wouldn't have had the time to beat him had my deck been up to the task. Round 2 was getting really close in game 3 when I ran out of time. I had a bye round 3.
It just isn't worth it for me to play if I'm not going to have a chance at being competitive. I'd really like to play in the KTK Limited Champinship qualifiers that start this week, but I see no point in getting my hopes up when I know it will just end in frustration.
Since I can't play the format I like best, I spend little to no time using the program and can't really comment on what I do or don't like among the features that you are trying to gather information on.
Right now my computer is fine with everything else I use it for, so I really can't justify shelling out the money for a new computer just to play MTGO.
I <3 Purphorous. But you have to play it in the right kind of deck. Beatdown isn't really it. It is an alt win con and if you get to 6+ mana it can take the game away via pumping your dudes. But by itself it doesn't do very much. Mainly I find myself putting it in when I have a large token producing plan and don't need that slot for something else. But then again I am a casual player so it might not be good enough at all for tourney in this current Standard.
Also Re: Chained...try Bloodsoaked Mire, + more mountains.
The problem as I see it is this: for those of us that are not deeply invested, there is the fading memory syndrome (our emotions are not highly charged enough to vividly remember the older client and degrades as time goes on).
As for myself, I started MTGO (using trial playing) at the tail-end of V2.5 and made my first account on V3. So I never knew clans, leagues and other things that were stripped from the client before my time.
My criterion for judging the V4 client is simple...can I play a game of Magic whenever I am in the mood to do so.
I think looking at the average number of users on and the number of events firing vs V3 would give you the best general idea of how people feel about the new client. I'm not sure how you could get that information though--any ideas? I FEEL like there are significantly less people playing (and secondary market values imply a fairly significant dropoff in demand), but that might be a function of the formats I play. Sellers would know what is going on with total sales, but getting one to share that information might be tricky.
Stoke the Flames or Magma Jet for that final bit of reach. Banishing Light for those troublesome permanents. Kill Shot as another kill spell. Also with 24 cards meant to go to the bin, (21 spells and 3 fetches), jumping to 3 or even 4 Murderous Cut may not be out of line. I also might increase the Deflecting Palm as it gives a way to deal with planeswalkers and reach for those last few life points.
Mana wise, you might want to swap Temple of Silence for temple of triumph, try a few Nomad Outpost, or a few life gain duals to offset the pain lands a touch. (Past T1, you only need single black, so Temple of Silence doesn't help you that much by comparison)
By my calculation. you have a ~61% chance of a T1 play when going first (T1 black source and 1 CMC black spell), ~27% chance of having two 1 cmc spells (and a black source) in your opener, so the tapped land T2 or T3 would not be that much of a problem. BTW the stats are coming from here: http://stattrek.com/online-calculator/hypergeometric.aspx
I use OBS, or Open Broadcaster Software. It's great for recording but I've had some issues lately with streaming. That might just be due to my internet but it might also be an issue with the program itself, so be forewarned.
Now this is more like it! I haven't had a look at the video yet but this series seems promising and is definitely a great idea. One thing about formatting...you can hit ctrl enter in the RT editor to make it insert a break return instead of paragraph if that's what you want. In this case it seems needed between the embedded video and the deck list above it.
I was expecting a big tournament with cool prizes. Maybe some promos that don't exist yet. Maybe the best wouldn't be power9 but stuff that is too expensive right now like Daze, Wasteland and Misdirection.
Yeah the same here. I dislike it also because of the time element. Aside from the absolute time wasting of reading irrelevant posts, waiting for replies, posting and generally needing a device (and being stuck to it like glue) make the whole thing onerous and tedious. Not my cuppa. With facebook, I spend a little time reading my feed, responding to those posts I like, post things occasionally (mostly songs and art but sometimes political or social topics and an occasional public display of ire/angst.)
But the whole idea of social media is like something really bizarre out of Orwell's 1984. I make that connection mainly because of the social engineering aspect but also because of the information leak aspect.
I'm not so fond of twitter, I have tweeted just the once so far. What I dislike is the unstructured nature of it. Even on the mtgo channel it's full of irrelevant chaff that I wouldn't bother to read if it was structured into threads as on a forum.
...until someone started using Back to Nature! :P (And then actually drawing into it).
You don't run Horizon Canopy either, and that's a big part of the pro archetype (you really want to have lands that enter untapped and then you cycle away), but you still did great with the deck. Truth is, if you're not prepared, it's the type of deck that steamrolls you before you even know what's happened.
This said, I played SBena, who won a few Modern Times events with the non-budget version of Bogle, and my deck couldn't win when Daybreak Coronet was out, because the lifegaining became too massive and unrecoverable, both in attack and defense position. It's hard to replicate what that card does in that deck.
It encapsulates the beauty of MTG, in a way: any ridiculous bulk rare can become tomorrow's hit because the game is in constant flux. So the elements of the game can't be evaluated at a single moment in time. This is really unique of Richard Garfield's creation.

No link? :(
the announcement last night was markedly better than VMA drafts coming back

Yea that is the issue I am having. I will have to try the other programs. Thanks again.
I used cam studio for a while, and it just stopped working for me :/

Hey great article Casper, just curious what recording program do you use?
Thanks for the tip!

I'd be very surprised if we see leagues before the second quarter of next year.
anymore
