You fulfilled the Advisor challenge pretty impressively: that's the best showing by a challenge deck to date. Are you going to lay down a pauper challenge or wait 'til the week after?
yeah i dont know what happened...i was working on some sort of oddball reanimation deck and since i owned the horde of notions i thought that isnt a horrible reanimation target....then I just fleshed it out with other random elementals I owned. I only ran 2 mulldrifters since i have all the other draw spells already. And extra horde ane exemplars are fine in hand since it means i can discard them with research or knowledge to reanimate the next turn. I mean turn 4 exemplar is pretty sweet. Especially if followed by a turn 5 heat shimmer
Personally, I want 4 Harbinger, Smokebraider, Soulstoke, and Mulldrifter. Harbinger and Drifter give you so much card advantage/selection its not funny. Couple that with Braider powering them and the cards you draw/search, you have the potential for some silly sequences. Soulstoke is your lord, so that makes me want 4 right there. But on top of that, its activated ability lets you cheat some of the really stoopid guys into play for way cheap. So by upping Harbingers and Drifters, you could cut back to 1 each of Horde and Exemplar making it less likely you end up with awkward hands containing multiples.
I liked you Chimaera deck. It definitely had some interesting tricks and I'm not surprised it beat my Advisor deck. You consistently put enough pressure on me that I couldn't go for the combo and needed to play survival mode with my Imperial Recruiters.
There are a lot of different opinions about what is not fun to play against. Here is a short list of things that some players find offensive.
1. Goblins
2. Elves
3. Merfolk
4. Money Rares / Money Mana Bases
5. Combo Decks
6. Losing to a good deck
7. Losing to a bad deck
8. Losing due to skill
9. Losing due to a player's misclick or mistake.
10. Losing due to a top deck.
11. Losing to a jerk
12. Losing...
In short, you can't make everyone happy.
Generally speaking, if you spend some time creating an original deck that doesn't totally shut your opponent out of the game, then you'll probably have more people liking the deck than hating it.
Without having looked at your sealed pool too extensively, I think I'd go G/U/w (white splash for smite and oust pretty much, off evolving wilds, prism and a couple of plains). G is pretty much your only colour with plenty of creatures, and U features a couple of creatures, sphinx, domestication and narcolepsy. All three remaining colours have good removal, so I guess you could splash B or R instead. R has a few decent creatures on single-red costs, so if you're creature shy I'd consider going there, but the B and W are probably best splashes for removal?
Interesting pool! My sealed pool was complete pants...
yeah i noticed that issue when posting the list but figured hey that is only proof that im having a busy time lol. I guess with that being the case would take them out for say Dread Return.
Im looking at the Elemental deck thats posted and while I like the look and idea of it, I cant help but wonder about Breath of Life. I know its only a 2 of, but with only 2 Sanctums to cast, well, yeah.
to be honest goblins, elves, and slivers i would guess. A lot of people frown more upon combo decks using any tribe but are vocal about a few tribes as well.
ShardFenix: Thanks for the commendation.
I know in the /join tribal room, there were lots of groans about Goblins. What other tribes are frowned upon for lack of a better term?
I played you second round. I had rough mana one game and you have a good deck. I had also made a poor decision in my deck construction as my last choice before the tournament was whether to run Cenn's Heir or Burrenton Forge-Tender -oops!
My only frustration was you were the second goblin deck I had faced in the tournament.
I faced you in round 3 (Kithkin deck) and it felt like your deck had a the ability to take over the game at any moment. Fortunately, I had drew into answers to a lot of what you did, but Iona would have shutdown my mono-white deck.
I think you could have beaten any deck in the tournament, but it would be very draw dependent. Moat would have limited the ability of the various Goblin decks to win.
@Endless' Deck - I played a few matches against it earlier in the week with my insects and yeah it did suck when he got out the iona turn 2 one game. To be honest I told him "The deck isnt terribly overpowered, but it won't make many friends" And while the deck is very good, somethimes i think my others decks may have stood a chance better than insects where all my removal is in red.
@Yrdbrd420 the deck was not that bad I myself have ran fully pauper goblins before. I think putting yourself into double restrictions like pauper and tribal when everyone else is playing rares and the such and doing well is commendable.
In round 1 I played against the Advisor deck, very cool deck, suprised I beat it 2-1 in the match. Round 2 I played against Shards pesky little insects that crushed me under there little feet. And the third round that I played flippers kobols, would of had a chance in if I didnt make the mistake of playing Academy ruins twice which puts it in the graveyard since they are legendary, I would of had the mana to start playing my chimeras. Other than that I had a very good time at the event and I should be back this Saturday.
That Angel deck definitely looks like it is a tier above the other decks. How did it drop a match?
edit -nevermind I see endless just talked about it.
I think Iona herself is a lightning rod for a lot of disgruntled players. It's very hard to fight and frustrating to lose to. Sure, the deck may not consistantly get her out on turn 2-3, but every game you win that way is going to be a game that your opponent may feel somewhat cheated.
I know that playing Gobbos is kinda poo-pooed and Im sorry about that. As ShardFenix wrote, this was my 1st time playing so I wasnt too up to speed on the etiqutte of not using certain tribes. I really didnt think a deck comprised of 17 basic land, 35 commons, and 8 uncommons would 3-0 after some of the decks Ive seen posted from past events.
I had the deck already from playing Pauper where its competing with WW for King of Aggro. I wanted to play something fast and consistent with removal (BURN!!!) since this is a format all about creatures. So I cut some of the "chaff" i.e. Goblin Bushwhacker, Jackal Familiar, and Hissing Iguanar for Maniacs (giving me 12 1cc creatures at 2/x) Ram-gangs, Chain Lighting and Fireblast.
Everyone I played was really cool and I had fun. I hope to be able to make it on a regular basis. Im excited for Pauper this weekend since thats what I play mostly.
What is the purpose of sideboarding? The idea is that you are replacing cards in your main deck with cards that are better in the particular match-up from your sideboard. In a deck like Polymorph much of your main deck cannot be touched - you need to generate tokens, protect them, cast polymorph, have a giant creature to put into play, and have ways to put put all of these elements together.
Shaving the numbers on any of those puts you at risk of not being able to successfully cast Polymorph. That only leaves 7 cards to cut, essentially your acceleration (Rampant Growth, Everflowing Chalice) and Vapor Snare.
Everflowing Chalice is just the worst card in the deck. It can be cut and is inferior to Rampant Growth in the deck as it doesn't provide a shuffle effect to pair with Ponder and Jace.
The other cards that are cut in each matchup are dead cards (Flashfreeze against non-red/green) or straight upgrades (Flashfreeze coming in for Negate).
I think the Pauper Challenge is enough of a deckbuilder's challenge and it's difficult to lay out a reasonable challenge in the pauper format.
However I will lay down a challenge for the week after the pauper event, and that challenge will be the "plant" creature type.

Counterpoint: If the deck is original enough, sometimes you can get away with totally shutting your opponent out of the game.

Great rundown, I built a similar version using the 1cc wall that gains life every time it's damaged, great for goblins meta...

Far better to protect and ensure the win than to get greedy and potentially lose.
edit: my mistake, I was thinking of a different situation where white mana was available

why didnt you just kill the jund player with vines on iona when he was at 11?

Well lets see to address the subjects

where did you see how many nominations you got?
