Thanks for mentioning the website again. I like the idea to have a place where you can find all the links, rules, discusions and ideas of the Heirloom Universe! Maybe the site will reach its limits soon if the Heirloom Universe is still expanding as fast as now, but for the moment it makes sense to me.
The "Big Fish" Deck is my favourite up to now. The matches were always close and interesting, only facing gobos in round 3 AND 4 was to much in the end! If I only get another beast like Stormtide Leviathan from upcomming sets!!! Even for classic only crap fills the creature types the Quest supports....
that's exactly my experience. Describe the issue in detail and they will always be willing to give you refunds. The bad side is, if they are able to give you back products without complainig, that's a sign for how much profit they make with you paying in the store...
That was a tough event for me. My silly deck went toe to toe with Naga's Leviathans deck first round and he squeaked out the win in the end. Then I beat some deck I don't remember and lost in the 3rd round and dropped. I ran the following
I've always gotten refunds when I've had a problem. Even when I'm not sure I deserved it and told them so in the email - like when I was having lag that I'm sure was because of a slow internet connection on my end. I'm just always courteous and professional and describe the situation. I've never abused it, but I won't hesitate to click that link if even the slightest thing goes wrong in an event.
First of all thanks for the last set of pauper commanders. I still haven't actually played a game in that format but I did build some decks for it utilizing the pirate. I agree that modular deck building really shines in 100cs where everything is potentially a tool in your toolkit. I probably would not feel bad about bringing Emrakul in this format though. Unlike most formats played in cas cas I have yet to see a noncompetitive deck for 100cs.
Sunchaser is just a bad bear, almost always you want to play metalcraft cards that are good, regardless of metalcraft, and use metalcraft just as a plus, the exception to this rule is when you play metalcraft artifacts like Rusted Relic and Chrome Steed because they help to get up the artifact count in my opinion.
Flippers has commented price isn't a consideration: People have bought decks with force of will, Jace TMS, even Kargan Dragonlord without repercussion.
Wurmcoil Engines are artificial wurms, the true green natural wurms strongly despise them. :P
Seriously speaking, where are the Wurmcoil Engines? Well, in my wish list actually. Let's see:
See I disagree. Goblins are why Moat is important in the format. Goblins and to a slightly lesser extent Elves and white gobs (soldiers) are kept in check by Moat. Take it out and those decks completely dominate. They already have an advantage which is why people bring them.
I really like the idea of the open Tribal room all the time. I really like the format, but can't make the Saturday PRE and it was too hard to find good games in the casual room. I'll have to bring out and re-tune my decks now.
On another note, I think Moat should be added to the banned list. In this format it is just as powerful as Extinction against all non-flying tribes, and has a lower mana cost. If you build a deck without flyers, you have to build an answer to the one card into your deck. If Tribal had sideboards you would be able to sideboard for it and it wouldn't be that big of a deal. But as it stands, it's too powerful a card against most tribes. Plus Teferi's Moat costs more and has a more limited effect, again showing how Moat is too powerful.
Prototype Portal can also be stupidly good. I lost a game because the guy used a Portal imprinting Accorder's Shield and next turn he played a Kuldotha Forgemaster.
When I dealt with the forgemaster, I thought I was ok but then he played a Goblin Gaveleer and began equipping all those shields.
He quickly became too big for me to cope with.
According to legend, the ancestors of the wurm rebelled against their fellow dragons. After losing, they were thrown to the ground, beaten and stripped of their wings.

My only complaint about the wurm deck, where are the Wurmcoil Engines??
I had the same thought as well when I read the article that tribal would be a good place to play if you like swinging large creatures around.
I expect its why I like tribal so much as I used to be the green player when I played paper way back. I loved my Force of Nature's and Berserk, I didn't think you could get better then that. Then I found discard when Fallen Empires was released and my play direction changed.
The problem with a "3/3 flier for 1W" is threefold:
1 - In a deck with 14 artifacts, some of which cost 5 and 6, it's often not a 3/3 flier until turn five or six even when goldfishing, and it's completely useless if not turned on.
2 - The non-metalcraft form is incredibly easy to deal with, and is VERY easily 2-for-1'ed when only 'crafted at 3.
3 - It takes up precious colored-spell slots in your metalcraft decks, even though it isn't as strong as the colored removal or other top picks. It's just a dude, not a major player.
I find that Sunchaser is fine in my looser metalcraft decks, but nearly always gets cut from decks I expect to 3-0. I'd view him more as filler, and less as a key component or true reason to dive into a metalcraft strategy. I'd basically always want Iron Myr, Chrome Steed, etc.
For example, when you picked him P1P3, I'd always take Necropede and Gold Myr over Sunchaser even if forcing R/W. Since all you're giving up is a Shatter, there's a good chance Cystbearer is a better pick too, but that's DEFINITELY open to personal preference and interpretation.
OH, it's no problem. I didn't intend to suggest that we should turn all Timmy's into Spikes either. lol I was just trying to give him another tool to get his buddy back in the game. Sometimes all a Timmy needs is hope. lol.. I'm so evil...
I absolutely agree! Sorry, my rant was not intended to be directed at you. It's just that sometimes you see "Timmy" used as the equivalent of "bad player" and "Spike" used as the equivalent of "good player". It's actually not like that, you can be a very bad Spike player and a very clever Timmy player. It's just the way you play and what you wish to take from the whole MTG esperience that's different. (In Spike's defense, if you see a terrible Timmy you just discount the fact with him being a Timmy and not aiming at win - which is false too, but whatever. If you see a terrible Spike you call him a loser right there).
Thanks Flippers for accepting my idea about the room! I will be there as much as I can, starting... now! (I'm GMT +1, but I do my own worktime, so I can be found online pretty much at any time). I'm glad my Wurms got to be included in the "accomplished list" (I've now "retired" them, replacing Natural Order with Eureka, so it should become a very fun deck for a super-casual experience in the room). I aim to add new tribes to that list. :)
ok, but that's no reason to punt matches to your buddy in order to get him back into the game. He just needs to know that his mono green ramp deck can actually compete using a competent sideboard. I'm sure he won't be completely transformed into a spike, but there's something to be said about beating your buddies legitimately.
AJ is correct I will not be banning or restricting any cards based on their price.
Hey Xaos,
great article as always!

Thanks for reading the article

That was a tough event for me. My silly deck went toe to toe with Naga's Leviathans deck first round and he squeaked out the win in the end. Then I beat some deck I don't remember and lost in the 3rd round and dropped. I ran the following
Violentlanche
4 Diabolic Tutor
4 Violent Ultimatum
4 Naya Charm
4 Lavalanche
4 Lightning Bolt
4 Llanowar Elves
3 Harrow
3 Rampant Growth
3 Khalni Heart Expedition
3 Krosan Tusker
4 terramorphic expanse
2 plains
4 swamp
6 mountain
8 forest
sb:
3 pyroclasm
4 acidic slim
4 dodecapod
4 void

You're absolutely right. Still, at 18 tix a full Moat playset is not so affordable to everyone, that's a pity.
Wurmcoil Engines are artificial wurms, the true green natural wurms strongly despise them. :P
Seriously speaking, where are the Wurmcoil Engines? Well, in my wish list actually. Let's see:
Bellowing Tanglewurm: 0.04 tix
Enlisted Wurm: 0.05 tix
Engulfing Slagwurm: 0.08 tix
Symbiotic Wurm: 0.08 tix
Plated Slagwurm: 0.08 tix
Pelakka Wurm: 0.20 tix
Penumbra Wurm: 0.34 tix
Novablast Wurm: 0.40 tix
Wurmcoil Engine: 3.50 tix
You do the math. :)
(OK, I have 4x Natural Order, but it's the only truly expensive playset I own, and I too fond of them from my paper times)
See I disagree. Goblins are why Moat is important in the format. Goblins and to a slightly lesser extent Elves and white gobs (soldiers) are kept in check by Moat. Take it out and those decks completely dominate. They already have an advantage which is why people bring them.
I wanna give the Air-Loom League a try. Please add me.
Interestingly I did get it to work with an all in build but it was still not good enough.
Kobold tendril will be awesome once urza's destiny comes out thanks to carnival of souls. unfortunately it also wont be tribal legal...rats

My dragonstorm version was very weak in testing so I dismissed it.

I would've moved into Infect after getting a Tangle Angler passed pick 5, and a Contagious Nim 6. Did I see a Blight Mamba pick 10? wow
