A lot of these are Prismatic staples like titan,wogs,fof and All Suns' and Wild Reasearch are old 5color magic banned cards.
You could always check the BnR lists of 5color,prism,Legacy,Classic,Singelton,EDH as they all have very powerful cards that are lower priced and budget friendly.
I can't speak for all of your opponents, but Fact or Fiction appears to be bugged right now. It occasionally changes the split for an unknown reason. They may not be as careless as you think.
Enjoyed the article. I've been a budget player for quite some time. I made a small investment based on your "safe bets" a few articles back, sold all of that off after three weeks and used my profits to buy a singleton playset of all of the shocklands and painlands. You're to blame (and thank) for the most recent growth in my collection and I'm very appreciative. Keep up the good work.
I remember my old decks that had 2 Sibilant spirit and 3 Rainbow efreet for creatures. (counterburn) with earthquakes and pillage. I clearly remember some guy raging after i sided in Wildfire Emissary and drew 3 of them. Awkward times indeed...
There's nothing better than reminiscing to old times and remembering old magic matches and how clunky play was before netdecks
I have to disagree with you on the SoM Affinity. It depends on the meta. In a more control-oriented meta, traditional affinity can be better because it can throw down more threats in one turn. However, for the same reason SoM Affinity is better against storm, it also has good game against control. Namely, the faster clock: SoM affinity much more reliably throws down a 4/4 on turn 2. That turn 2 threat effectively destroys MUC since it ruins draw-go. And against storm, that turn 2 threat is crucial to winning by turn 4. In a more aggro environment, the new Som Affinity is better--more 4/4 bodies overall, plus that turn 2 4/4 again helps prevent gobs from running way out ahead.
You must've lumped two weeks of data together. I log all rare prices twice a day, these changes did not happen this rapidly. Thoughtseize was 8.0 for the first half of December 9th, and hit 16 the morning of the 16th, closing at 16.5, and didn't hit 23 til just the other day Fulminator hasn't been 3.25 since the 9th as well.
Just letting you know lol. If you leave these figures flawed like this you will likely cause double the effect next year when everybody and their grandmother wants to double/triple their money in less than a week. Unless that's what you want to do :) I must say I am now skeptical about the figures published about last year's EXT PTQ season spikes, though everything seems to have gone according to plan this year.
_____
Necrotic Ooze did rise, it was 0.15 on December 9th, and 2.0 by December 11th. It has sunk back to 0.90
"I now believe that I will win, because there is no other productive line of thought.".
This is cute. 324 people enter a PTQ probably thinking this exact same thing.
You can't go into a game expecting anything. That is as productive as a line of thought can get.
Yeah well, the funny thing is that scapeshift was so powerfull because it was a one card combo ( with all the shockduals..). Now that it's still valid as a two card combo, people are still trying it.
There's an elephant in the room and it's called Faeries. On top of that you have XX-control. bringing a combo deck into extended is outright suicide. did i tell you that everyone is playing thoughtseize?
Prismatic omen wont hold up at this price. Please quote me when i'm wrong.
I find that you do need BB first as well but I don’t rely on the white cards until later in the game this is helped by having Perilous Myr as an early staller.
I’ve not really had mana issues with the deck apart from the odd time when I’ve been without a blue source for Venser but I could fix that by adding 2 Darkslick Shores if I needed too.
I'm not sure how you are making that manabase work. I've been trying to make BW poison work and 23 lands is too few, and I find myself needing BB first and then WW immediately and it just isn't coming with any regularity.
When I was 6 I slept under the tree and was awakened not by a crash but a grumble it was my dad fumbling around in the dark with the Christmas stash! My parents had been covering for that deadbeat the whole time!
@Leviathan
I probbaly spent more time trying to remember names and places then i did writing this.
The burn deck is a little hit or miss on some of the creatures, thats a given as i played the deck for one afternoon 13 years ago. however i have come to realize that it was the sligh deck pretty much but made for type 1 so no crappy orcs that dont grenade people. the worb deck however i played for months, ported to type 2, and i had a note book that i have jotted down decks and deck ideas for magic. just flipped to the beginning for the deck list. Other then that there are just the few standout wins/losses, that i shared.
@paul
Im glad you continue to like, its still a bit short i know, this one is pushing 2900 words and i would have liked it to be a touch longer, but then i would either have to lie to get more stories in, pull a robert jordan and describe what everyone was wearing, or continue the story past the rockaway days and have it cut off in the middle of another "chapter".
@gimli
hooray for dirty jersey
@flip
i was lucky that i had friends with cars who loved to event. if it werent for them i probably would have quit after a year or so.
@everyone else
please comment here if you would like to hear more. The closer this gets to saga block the more spiker it will become, teaser. i used to play with Jon Sonne and Craig Kremples all the time, theres even a little gerrard fabinao, josh ravitz, and eric ziegler action in there.
yea its funny how they are trying to make duals more 'affordable' but are printing mythic rares... anyways yea the whole rav set is full of jewels. a big issue for newer players and older sets are the past mechanics and the ability to tie them into the ones they are familiar with

This is terrible. I expected an Oath List or something and instead i get Goblins of the Flarg...
Well played, Whiffy, well played.
J/k reading the 1st part now and dude you played wayyyy too many card games growing up.

I don't think so. But then my memory isn't the greatest.
maybe we do, and just dont know it. add about 20-40 pounds to my picture take away the beard and fill in with acne. ring any bells? lol

Im surprised we don't know each other then. NG was my home for quite a few years.
i have been to neutral ground many times in the psast tempest block to invasion block time period.

Good article. Happy holidays!
Rare Exports is hilarious. I highly recommend it.

Why isn't necrotic ooze rising?
I guess it shows that you can't stay jolly forever. Storm combo in the casual room? For shame, Santa.
Also thees a new film coming out called Rare Exports that is worth checking out.
And Scarlett is definitely an upgrade. Have run with that.

Good Advice. Hard to follow. At least some of it. Prismatic Omen was a real sleeper. Had no idea it was going to jump THAT much. Very surprising.
Funny :D.
Heh Josh and Eric were NG regulars sort of. Well they were always at Greymatter events.
Friggen Santa Claus,

When I got to the finals of my first tournament, I was so nervous my hands were shaking. A lot.
I love seeing these old decks and play styles. You have a great memory to be able to recall all this stuff.
great article....Im from NJ also!
