Icy Manipulators have always been uncommon. On the plus side though beta versions of classic cards like Icy, Serra Angel, and Hypnotic Specter still hold pretty strong premium prices even though they are no longer all that relevant.
I don't especially want him reprinted, I just want to point out that the "lone wolf" is neither lone nor a wolf."
How do you know this? The art implies that the wolf is Kasimir. :d And the type gives us no clues. And it looks like Kasimir is about to leap on that hapless axe wielder!
I kid. As per usual a nice treatment of a fun subject. Keep writing Cotton!
I've listened a fair amount of jokes on my last name throughout my life, and that's coming from a country where "Ricardo" itself doesn't remotely lend itself to double entendres! One can only imagine what would happen to some poor American chap named Richard Longo. :P
Thanks! I do realize that now. This was my second Daily with the deck, and I had faced a GW Pod deck with token stuff like Geist-Honored Monk in my first, so I was afraid. Either way, I would say the Arbiters are kinda so-so overall.
You said, "Question: when it comes online, should we digitally remove Pluto from the bottom-right of the arc? Not because we don't consider Pluto a planet anymore, but because IT WASN'T DISCOVERED UNTIL 23 YEARS AFTER EINSTEIN DIED. He would never have heard of it, much less wanted it floating around his head!"
Pluto was discovered in 1930. Einstein died in 1955.
Fact checking is tech!
I actually got to draft this deck Friday at FNM and ended up with the 21 creature special - with both Splinterfright and Kessig Cagebreakers! Usually if the archetype is open, it's wide open.
""But those sets aren't good for drafting." Good point. You're right, they aren't. Okay, moving on"
Wait, what? How are these cards going to be widely distributed if they aren't going to be drafted? Seems rather important to discuss rather than just brush off.
I have a UG selfmill deck like this that i play casually with some friends and the concept is fun. I might have to try this in draft soemtime soon, i am getting tired of U/W fliers though getting three crows is nice
In regards to my plant-drazi deck, yes, I'm still working with a singleton style mana base and it works for the most part, except it makes creating a Valakut build difficult. Now that Vesuva has come down in price I might be able to go for the 12-post mana base though.
Here's a silly question. Will the Elves vs. Goblins week be recorded on the Hall of Fame, since everybody will be playing BOTH tribes and those are the only options?
I would like to test Standard with someone here. I will add buddy you and see where that takes me.
R1G2: Opponent casts Wurmcoil Engine. RL:"Oh, yea! This guy? I am Mana Leaking"
I lol'd.
M2G2(GW Humans/tokens in general)- You sided in Arbiter because you feared Primeval Titan. This deck never runs Titans, or anything that searches for that matter. Like the top of their curve is either Elspeth, Garruk 2 or 3, and Geist-Honored Monk. The Arbiter is relatively useless ATM except against the Wolf Run decks. I realize some of the Wolf-Runners are running it GWr and I understand your fear of Titans, but Blade Splicer and Hero give the deck away (these are not typically in the Wolf Run decks)...now you know, and knowing is half the battle.
It's essentially the best ever card because it's the only member of the Flying Purple Barnie the Dinosaur Hippo Tribe.
That is much much much more valuable than anything else there. I mean it's a FLYING PURPLE HIPPO!!!!!
And you have no clue how sad I was when I went to a store and was going to sell my near-mint Beta Icy Manipulators only to find out they were pretty much useless at this point thanks to it now becoming an uncommon.
Agreed with what has been said about Innistrad, the format is so luck based it is almost pointless to breakdown. Everytime I lose I feel like the other guy got lucky, and every time I win I feel like I had an amazing draw. It seems like the most important thing is to make sure your deck curves well, but beyond that just hope your draw comes in a good order and that you have the right opponent for your removal.

blue is very good obviously, and by far the deepest color, but I rarely see it open, there you just have to read signals. Personally I think I'm just going to wait out the som 4322 ques for now. I never thought it was the best limited format but relative to this one its chess.

..........................whoops
well im definitely going to have to keep an eye open for it.

But these would be horrible in sealed and drafts.
I would still play them, but, well, just awkward.
Great article.

Why are Champion of the Parish, Doomed Traveler, Fiend Hunter, and Geist of Saint Traft "other" spells as opposed to creatures?
^ hilarious
Your name is Dick Longo......

Your comment about Quagmire really made me laugh out loud. Thanks for doing this and looking forward to the next one.

Agree x1,000,000!!!
I say a one-shot Alliances draft should be our prize for winning the Community Cup next year. If we lose, make it The Dark.
Great work as usual.

Just FYI
Nice work.
As a West Coast "Americano" type, I love Stephen Fry.
Yeah, this was pointed out to me as well. I've used it a couple times already actually. I'll talk more about it in my next article.
