Honestly I do not know. I started as host in season 7 of Peasant And that is what had been used before. But I like it as it allows more then just one set of uncommons even if it is just a one off.

  • Of Peasants and Paupers #1   12 years 13 weeks ago

was still around, good reminder...just out of curiosity...why 5? Why not 4 or 8 or even 6 (2 sets of 3), etc. Is there something unique about 5, or was it just a random number or is it mathmatically based on percentage draws, etc.?

    Good job, Zach!

I've really missed Ryan Spain's articles that used this format, so I'm glad that you are finally picking up the torch. I knew about this article a little bit ahead of time, but when I actually sat down to read your content, I was surprised by how exceptional it was. You really put a lot of thought into each stage of the game, and it makes for great reading.

Thanks for the Comment Cotton I know Dredge seems like it could be a breakout deck in the format though I have not seen it happen yet.

Thanks Kumagoro I do love your articles and a big supporter of Tribal Apocalypse. I did not even notice the font size change, that is something I will have to improve upon.

I wanted to say this on the case of possible cheating decks have to be registered before the event begins and the gatherling we use will not list the uncommons with the main deck instead placing them at the bottom. This always confuses new players a bit but it makes verifying for the host and cohost very easy also all decks are fully published after the event so everyone can see them. I have seen cases where people have come to me with concerns about an opponent but it is usually just a confusion of the Rarities we use.

A Peasant filter would be awesome, but we just got a great Standard Pauper filter I amnot gonna be greedy atleast until the new client comes out.

Hey Malum, welcome to the writing side of PureMTGO!

You might want to check your formatting, though, at some point you switched to small font and you never came back (making this hard to read for miopic/lazy people like me). There's also issues with spacing and bullet listing. Oh well, practice makes perfect, right? :)

On the subject of Peasant, I just have a hard time with formats that the editor doesn't support. One thing is saying, "these 10 cards are banned", and you can look out for them; another is saying, "these 4,000 cards are allowed, these 8,000 aren't, and there's no automatic system to sort them out". I'd be driven crazy trying to figure out if my opponent is cheating, or if I'm cheating without even knowing it.
But if you need a signature to ask WotC to add a Peasant filter in the editor, you can count on me. I like the "5 star players" concept better than just the Silverblack pool.

Bazaar of Baghdad!! Good thing Narcomoeba and Dread Return are also uncommon or that could get pretty nuts.

  • Mikey K Radio - UG Storm Post   12 years 13 weeks ago

Hey dude thanks for the shout outs here and on pauper to the people! Interesting tweaks, I love watching other people play the list because people play it so differently.

As an aside one of my friends has moved away from creatures and he runs accumulated knowledge and prefers them over preordains. So if you want to go more comboish that's the new tech.

I almost Q'd for season three, but then the system crashed a couple times and I lost interest in trying. Couldn't get on Tuesday or Wednesday for those last QP. Did not know they extended the deadline, as I never saw the announcement for it, so just threw up my hands and did other things. I remember the last 2.0 to 3.0 conversion, so if the new client becomes mandatory I'll likely stop playing for six months (at least).

Oh, and you are are doing a good job with this article series. Even when I am not playing MTGO, I like to read your summaries.

Great article, as always! Good work on those drafts!

  • Outside the Deckbox: Mono Green Aggro in Standard   12 years 13 weeks ago

While Ulvenwald Tracker may not be a great choice right now due to Tragic Slip, it makes Predator Ooze a one sided Wrath of God when both are in play.

  • Brewing It #4 Big Red   12 years 13 weeks ago

Eh theres alot of red symbols in the mana costs and chalice isnt really what im looking for. I suppose you could add more ramp but I didnt really like it myself. Obviously Skred is better than flameslash after you hit 5 lands but that really isnt when you want to be slashing. The point of the removal is to kill every creature they play in the first few turns. Skred is a bit too slow. Wurmcoil is good but theres a huge difference between 6 and 5 and valakut doesnt come in to play untapped or power karn, this deck should be beating in for 5+ by turn 4 so the one or two bolts you get from valakut isnt worth disrupting consistency. And blood moon is main deck so...

I've taken a break from magic of late. I find I'm not really missing it. The beta client is just way too unstable.

  • Diaries of the Apocalypse: Tribal Week 115   12 years 13 weeks ago

I'm using Windows 7 on a very common PC thats 2 years old, nothing special I guesss - but what do I know ;-)

  • Diaries of the Apocalypse: Tribal Week 115   12 years 13 weeks ago

I thought it was a very cool challenge to build a deck around one artist. It makes me want to start a PRE where everyone plays a deck using cards from a single artist of their choice.

I'm currently working on the Kamigawa challenge, but I'm not sure I can build a viable deck before next week. That block is so bad.

Nevermind. Watched the video. Got the gist.

I was curious as to how Spell Blast was illegal?

  • Diaries of the Apocalypse: Tribal Week 115   12 years 14 weeks ago

I am indeed extremely disappointed to have missed out on the Art deck achievement. It was the only one I really wanted this season, and I was HUGELY interested in it as a longtime MTG art enthusiast. The Eric Deschamps art deck I had built was Boros Humans, but required either an offtribe splash for Porcelain Legionaire, or adding green for Garruk Relentless with minimal mana-fixing and at the cost of further weakening promo-art Koth. As it turned out, I got ill on Saturday morning and could not play anyhow. Eric is one of my favorite contemporary MTG artists, I have a nice signed set of Phyrexian Crusaders from him, including one he altered to look like Venom from Spiderman. At least it was taken down by a Rebecca Guay deck, my second favorite classic MTG artist behind only Quinton Hoover.

Nagarjuna, I appreciate the effort to send something in, hopefully we can come up with something that we can all use. I think part of the problem is that the latest version of Camtasia uses a new proprietary codec that isn't supported in any of the popular media players, because those players are mostly community-supported freeware and nobody has coded for it yet. As I mentioned, you can actually extract a .avi file from a Camtasia file with any unzip software, it was just the particular codec that gave me trouble.

Glad to see FoW off the watch list. Romellos' merfolk build is a pretty good idea of the places I expect to see FoW in the future, in the blue-based aggro-control decks. Those decks had been underrepresented a little in the event IMO, so increasing their frequency adds some nice diversity to the format. As I expected, FoW-powered aggro-control decks just don't match up well against a field with so many pure aggro decks, but blue aggro-control is still solid enough to become a semi-regular part of the Tribal Apocalypse metagame, and I think in the end we're all better off for having a few around to keep the combo decks honest week to week. Those of us who have FoW don't necessarily feel like playing them every week either. My own personal preferences tend more towards R/G/x midrange-aggro decks like my Warriors list, or cutesy attrition-based decks, but I get tired of any one strategy quickly and love to mix it up all the time.

  • Diaries of the Apocalypse: Tribal Week 115   12 years 14 weeks ago

Oh, right, I was going to mention it, then forgot: sorry about that, Naga. And in general, we need .avi files, proprietary formats are hard to convert.

About CamStudio not working, we may have to give an alternative software in these cases (justcanceled had the same issues.) What's your PC configuration?

  • Diaries of the Apocalypse: Tribal Week 115   12 years 14 weeks ago

Sorry for the stupid fileformat Rex. Cam Studio doesn't work on my PC, so I took the next best trial software I could make work...

  • Outside the Deckbox: Mono Green Aggro in Standard   12 years 14 weeks ago

I'm getting crushed by the decks that I am supposed to get crushed by in my mind.

  • Outside the Deckbox: Mono Green Aggro in Standard   12 years 14 weeks ago

Congratulations for all the 3-1 results. This deck seems very interesting & entertaining. I will definitely try it.

  • Outside the Deckbox: Mono Green Aggro in Standard   12 years 14 weeks ago

3-1'd all three daily events I played in. This most recent one I lost to PrimeSpeaker Bant, and beat Junk Reanimator, RG and Aggro Jund.

  • Outside the Deckbox: Mono Green Aggro in Standard   12 years 14 weeks ago

Vorapede has actually been the stone cold nuts.

I like the idea of experiment one. I will def try that out.

  • Outside the Deckbox: Mono Green Aggro in Standard   12 years 14 weeks ago

GJ on the deck's performance :). Tracker definitely looks like sideboard material vs aggro, what about experiment one? You have enough stuff (other than ooze itself) which evolves it and you do want T1 plays, plus it has resilience if you can get 2 counters on it. Side it out for the trackers vs aggro, you can lose both of the pit fights and a rangers guile (actually, you can probably lose two ranger's guile - that's the sort of effect you never want too much of) for it.

Vorapede should be the 4th wolfir if you want a big body or a thragtusk if you want a resilient one.

  • Outside the Deckbox: Mono Green Aggro in Standard   12 years 14 weeks ago

And yes I am giving myself five stars :D
