Totally agree with you on Curse of the Swine. In the darn myth the soldiers weren't gone forever, the change was just temporary because Circe restored them in the end.
The card should have been a mass Ovinize instead (XUU, up to X target creatures become 1/1 pigs with no abilities until end of turn). Same standard/limited applications without destroying the color pie.
I really do believe they are both pretty intricate. As mentioned I think the keeps with dredge are much harder, but the board states are usually limited or bolstered by the gy (obvvvv)
Yeah, just experimenting a bit, I can make the pop up window onmouseover, but then I have to script it disappearing again...so trying to do that for every link would be pretty lengthy.
Not trying to de-rail Cotton's Comments here, but I do like trying to find ways to keep making the articles look and work better. : )
Both are doable within the html section of the article editor. However the amount of work involved is both tedious and lengthy considering just how many card links there are in a good article.
The sortable table is actually something you can put in between script tags and do as inline commands (onload="", etc). This a bit easier but also could be tedious if you don't like/understand coding/html/javascript.
I've been looking into a way to do it with the HTML at the writer level, but I'm still just learning all of this stuff as I go and I haven't figured it out yet.
It might be required to be in the Head of the page (much like the html I'd love to use for a sortable table, also not complex) so we might be S.O.L. but I'll keep looking at other websites and see if I can find a way.
If you have (say) three legends out, would you rather turn them into combat savants, or grant them the ability to make mana? By that time, you probably don't need any more mana.
The bands with others cycle is of course terrible but I'm giving it the nod.
Don't think Affinity just has unlimited mana. There are plenty of times you come up one mana short, or have to wait another turn to get all your guys out, just like any deck. There aren't a lot of deep decisions about what to play, but there can be some complicated board states, which let's face it, Classic players aren't always experienced with. That's the challenge I have with Affinity is looking 2 or 3 moves ahead on the board and seeing those plays or possibly the win that is staring you in the face.
I haven't played Dredge so I can't really compare, but Dredge rarely seems to get board states like Affinity does. Usually when Dredge gets guys out to the point it can really attack, it wins that same turn.
I knew about the Jhoira decks, but I decided I couldn't look myself in the mirror if I played Jhoira without real Eldrazi cards, so I went for a more controlling design that can actually cast the cards in the deck. I'm not saying this is better, but it's what I wanted to go with this week. In the future some time I might try Jhoira.
This deck actually began as an Intet deck, with green for ramp and enchantment removal, but I eventually decided just to drop a color. Niv-Mizzet is not the ideal fattie and is difficult on the color requirements, but I wanted 5 toughness for Wildfire/Xinye, and there wasn't anything better in straight Izzet. If it does hit the table, it's a solid Magpie that can also ping creatures and pay 2 to draw cards.
The deck is annoyingly color-thirsty but heavy on the colorless production (worn powerstone, thran dynamo, etc.) and I don't know exactly what to do about that.
Overall, the deck was okay. I lost to Thalia but my draws were not the best. The Thalia match is probably around 50-50.
I also want to point out that Walkers are not the only thing in the deck surviving board wipes. There are enchantments, indestructibles, creatures with dying triggers, and Aeon Chronicler to play with.
Edit: The most memorable moment of the event for me was tapping out game 3 against Raf (playing Asuza) who cast Mana Reflection on his turn. I Commandeer it, untap and play Walker-Haups for the win. Commandeer is awesome!
Weird. I read and reread the Mechanics article I read, and I would have sworn it said they *didn't* count. Apparently I can't read. So yes - apparently the very opposite of what I said is true. Whoops.
I have begged and pleaded for it. The hover over tech seems easy to do, but I have no idea how to do it because well computers are hard and if I did it, I would probably activate skynet.
First post here. Thanks for the State of the Program. I am just coming back after a long while and noticed that mtgo tournament fires data isn't in the last few posts. Does Wizards publish that data somewhere?
I can't believe Puremtgo still doesn't have hover-over technology. This article really needs it, since you are an encyclopedia of cards. I thought that was mentioned as "coming soon" in like 2009. Maybe it has just been wished for since then.
Good article though, as usual. One nitpick: Brainstorm is restricted in Vintage. It is an essential 4-of in Legacy and Classic though and since Vintage still isn't online, I will assume that's what you meant.

I have to agree.... welder is just too strong

Nice to have you again bro :)
Yes, heroic does not work with storm or replicate.
Unfamiliar with exactly how Heroic works, so forgive the silly question...
Akroan Crusader and Ground Rift is a non-bo then aye?
Would be a shame for Goblin Storm to be banned just to come back in a new form shortly after.
onmouseout with an appropriate toggleable event handler function is the answer you need there.
If you don't put welder in I'm quitting magic.

Mm hmm. It's possible to win with him or Great Wall. (With Opalescence it can attack for three every turn.)
I'm also an English teacher, btd.
Nonsense!

You get +1/+1 and first strike for the Terminator reference!
yep, im back - feels good :) and thx for noticing!^^
I voted for some cards last week, but I think I got it in too late.

As always, your articles are full of strong analysis for the format. I should really find the time to play in one of the pre's this season.
Fyi, you need a quick fix in the devotion section for hybrid mana. According to the provided link it should be two mana not zero.
I have begged and pleaded for it. The hover over tech seems easy to do, but I have no idea how to do it because well computers are hard and if I did it, I would probably activate skynet.
nope - Wizards does not provide that data. The only way to get it would be to sit in the rooms and count players and events 24x7.
Any volunteers?
