FWIW - Having just welcomed my daughter (first child) into the world on Nov 16, I can tell you this: I have gotten in a lot more magic in the past month than I did before hand, and much of it with my daughter jiggling in my arms or on my knee. So some of my earliest quality time with my daughter has been tied to magic (even if she doesn't know it) while "Mom" slept in.
However, fair warning: playing with a baby in your lap as a new dimension of difficulty, and I have finally relented and started playing more Swiss Queues and Two Mans rather than longer tourneys - which is events where a misclick or blowout repair won't cost me 4 (or twenty) packs, as misclicks become a question of *how many* happen rather than whether or not they happen.
Qualifying for MOCS seems just like being willing to drop enough tix into the system and have enough time to play. As long as you're playing a tier one deck, you're probably at least 40-60% to win any given match, so you just have to be willing to play enough for the odds to work in your favor.
Scanning the lists of the top MOCS players, a lot of them have their fair share of 0-6 point scores on Daily Events.
Also if qualifying is just your thing, you could consider entering a bunch of Momir events when they have them. They're mostly luck, so you always have a shot at earning points. But yeah, as long as you're willing to spend 4-8 hours a day playing Magic, qualifying for just one month shouldn't be that hard.
Qualifying and making a profit I think is a big challenge.
I am beginning my 2 year plan in order to open up my own hobby store. I'd love to pick your brain for some helpful advice if you have free time. Over the next 2 years I plan on saving a decent amount of cash to help the business flow as I expect to take profit loss during the first year. If you are interested in giving free advice just reply here and we can hook up via email.
Heh, the first time I went to my wife's house (Girlfriend at the time) I spent the first 45 minutes or so being ignored as she played Chrono Trigger. Love at first sight XD
I am a bit older than you but also followed the videogame upbringing. Had the Atari 2600 and played the heck out of Adventure on that one. Then Turbo Graphix, Sega, PS1 and original XBOX. Now I'm rocking the PS3 and loving it with my kids. But I play MO the most. My wife is the Queen of Mean Bean Machine. Good times!
Now listen, Friborg, if you're going to quote our national poet, then you had better damn well get it right, or we will assault your shop with claymores, bagpipes and assorted deep-fried foodstuffs.

I was 100% sure that I updated the site last Thursday night. I apologize as I saw hammy's latest article after being with my son all weekend. I remember reading it myself, and swear I hit publish. I am very sorry, and I hope you all enjoy!
It helps to look at dates before commenting on time sensitive things like new rules. Commander has recently been folded into the edh rules and the format name has been officially called Commander. But this article was written about 6 months ago, long before these changes.
Additionally there is no indication that the client is supporting these changes yet.
Nice deck, but you should let the Argus player know that you can't have cards with mana symbols on them that are outside of your general's colors. Since Halamar Depths produces U and Bojuka Bog produces B, they can't be played in a red white deck.
From the official rules http://mtgcommander.net/rules.php:
"An Example of what cards are/aren't allowed in a three colour deck.
Our Phelddagrif couldn't use any of these lands:
* Underground River (Obvious, see above)
* Godless Shrine
* Badlands
* Leechridden Swamp, etc) "
So no, you shouldn't play off color producing lands.
I enjoyed reading this article and combing over the manabases. It's definatly good to see someone valuing the SoM lands highly. I use Shivan Gorge in many red lists - I understand a lot of people find it subpar and not as good as Keldon Megaliths (honestly, the megaliths are better), but it's a decent measure to fight through red sphere, cop, player-shroud and others.
I just need to get my hands on a Wasteland, go go TSE!
Never mind saw that there's a 4th article :P
Wow, I'm glad there's someone out there besides me that knows it's "gang aft agley"!

Enjoy the coming year!
It's quite popular in pauper
Why is Prohibit such an expensive card? Wouldn't ppl just rather play Mana Leak of the CSP version of it? Rune Snag

This is really cool. I've always considered rebuilding championship decks and recreating old matches, but then my wallet chimes in >.>
This was a fun read, thanks!

I did do a Rare Drafter article for November but sadly there were complications and I'm unable to save the article due to it having too much data.
I don't have a solution on how to fix this at present.
Glad I bought 4 Time Sieve for an Heirloom deck awhile back when they were .08, time to cash those babies in heh =).
X-

Thanks a lot for this article ;-)
Solid article. I can appreciate the time and effort it took to come up with all those lists. A nice reference article.

Hey no problems, you are missed. Hope your New Years Eve was excellent. Hope to hear ya soon.

What room does Heirloom meet in?
for a new Rare Drafters article? I am using the last one from Sept. and I imagine the prices have changed. Thanks!
