• Diaries of the Apocalypse: Tribal Weeks 71-72   13 years 7 weeks ago

I ran into two decks with a playset of Wasteland. The second deck was Merfolk tribal with Force and Daze and all that. It's impossible to play multicolored strategies when your land gets destroyed on turn one. That's the sort of play I refuse to tolerate.

Hi guys thanks for the comments. :D

@Patryk: Leviathan has the gift of gab as is apparent by his long and well thought out replies but this is something you could do too if you find inspiration in his work. I am sure Leviathan would agree with me here. The more you write the better you get doing it and the more you will find you have to say. I am glad you enjoyed this as much as I did.

@BOB Lol yeah. What's funnier is I was also into the punk music scene (In NYC, though I only briefly had a punk hair style.) But Blippy was the real deal. I was merely a dilettante who dabbled a little. He really was into it. That's why that's such an awesome picture. The problem I had was the crossing over from punk to skinhead and metal. Also wasn't really into the politics of it. Anarchists range from cool to scary and sometimes in the same body.

As far as punk cards go well they have to be far and few between or people would assume the Man was pandering to the outcast and trying coopt the revolution. So to speak. :p

  • Diaries of the Apocalypse: Tribal Weeks 71-72   13 years 7 weeks ago

Well hmmm, something crazy must have happened in the 5/26 event, bc nothing in the decks listed here is a broken 1000 dollar oppressive strategy to prompt this much outrage now. These two weeks are pretty tame really, I see some moderately pricey manabases, but a list with 4 city of traitors or 80 tix worth of real dual lands is hardly a chrome-plated Cadillac. People play big Jaces, Deeds, goyf, but none of those money cards push the format around as much as punishing grove, or swords pre sfm restriction, or isochron scepter for most of this year. And no matter how spiky it gets, I've never felt like I couldn't play whatever tribe I wanted and still have a shot to go 3-1. If I beat goblins, humans and elfball with efreets, I'm pretty sure you can just play what you want.

  • Legendary Personalities: Superhero Team Up!   13 years 7 weeks ago

So ol blippy was a punker eh? That is awesome. I just walked in from an all day show and i am real sore. The Briefs and The Addicts were there he might know of them. There is alot of punkrockers on mtgo, based against the population ratio anyway. On Freed From the Reel a week or two ago his weekly question was what do you listen to while you play? Once again I saw punk bands listed. This makes me feel warm. All we need now is more punk cards like dwavern beserker and anarchy.

DKA is going to be very valuable because of 1 lone card, and that is lingering souls. The packs won't be worth much, same with ISD, but Lingering Souls is a card I try to pick up every day if I find a bot that has them for 0.50. I'm at 200 and counting.

ISD prices are down across the board, but with the announcement of Exalted in M13 look for Geist to be in the 40-50 range.

And I went x1 in FNM, but my one loss was to that stupid RU Delver deck. Turn 1, plays delver. Turn 2, doesn't flip, I'm ok with that. Turn 3, uses delvers's ability, shows me thunderous wrath and hits me for 8 to the face.

But do me one major favor anyone please.

Why are they reprinting the Conflux version of Nicol Bolas? I mean if they want their brand card for M13 to be special, especially with the loss of titans, shouldn't Nicol Bolas be entirely new?

And I would have liked to see the RW version of Ajani than the M11 version which is the rumored one to be reprinted.

**Oh and don't tell anyone, but everyone I know is buying Baneslayer Angels like they are illegal drugs. I mean 50-100 at a time. Apparently it is a given that Baneslayer will be reprinted in M13. I'll stick with Sigarda and Restoration Angel any day of the week over that card.

  • Diaries of the Apocalypse: Tribal Weeks 71-72   13 years 7 weeks ago

The power level is getting way too high for these events. It's starting to feel like a normal Legacy event full of thousand-dollar decks. I don't know what banning decisions need to be made, but it's pretty clear that the winning decks today are simply ones that use more broken strategies and expensive cards than other people do. It used to be I'd come and enjoy a Saturday afternoon playing Tribal, but lately it's become so cut-throat that I don't even recognize it anymore.

  • State of the Program for May 25th   13 years 7 weeks ago

Legacy is a dead format. They need to ban a LOT of things or else reprint stuff to make it affordable. Players are spending their money on sealed, not Legacy decks.

  • State of the Program for May 25th   13 years 7 weeks ago

I asked the same question on the WotC forums, it is on the schedule for late June.

  • Reintroducing: Heirloom   13 years 7 weeks ago

The price increase was to help get a larger card pool in Standard Heirloom and also like you said to get back some of the staple cards like Lightning Bolt, Journey to Nowhere and Oblivion Ring. There really has not been any broken decks since the price increase, MBC was starting to get out of control but players are coming more prepared for that match up now. Everyone seems to like the format more now that there are more options for deck building, have not had any complaints.

On a side note I will be asking for an updated Static Legality List from MTGOTraders on Monday, might not get it until Tuesday due to the holiday and all but next weeks PRE's will be using the new list.

  • State of the Program for May 25th   13 years 7 weeks ago

The table showing events firing in past State of the Programs give us a minimum level. Pauper fired around 30 events, so there were at least 30 events. Not sure about Momir.

  • Diaries of the Apocalypse: Tribal Weeks 71-72   13 years 7 weeks ago

    Thanks. :)

Good point on the iconic angels: A blanket ban on colour hosers would take out a number of the top-order angels and even entire strategies: Karmic Guide reanimator, for example. In the same vein, banning 'protection from black' and 'protection from demons' wouldn't touch Voice of All, Pristine Angel or Iridescent Angel. Should it?

  • Conqueror & Commander, Vol. LXXXV: Lady Evangela   13 years 7 weeks ago

Just a couple more comments after looking over the deck. Batterskull should definitely be in there. It is a pretty good beater on its own, plus if you put it on something like Serra Avatar or Kuro it can be a lot of life for you.

Also, I missed a couple of cards that I hadn't used before. They are Soul Warden, Patron of the Kitsune, Blood Seeker and Druidic Satchel. The Satchel is the biggest one of note, as each of the possible outcomes were beneficial for this deck. Although I appreciated the ramp the most, adding a token or gaining life were also great.

  • Legendary Personalities: Superhero Team Up!   13 years 7 weeks ago

Wow, I didn't realize I wrote that much! This was fun but that planeswalker should definitely cost at least 5 now that I looked at it again.

Patryk, that situation certainly sucks. I definitely don't consider that a "legitimate strategy". However I have never blocked anyone before. Just never felt the need. Maybe one day...

  • State of the Program for May 25th   13 years 7 weeks ago

    Any indication as to when?

  • State of the Program for May 25th   13 years 7 weeks ago

Does anyone have the number of each event type prior to the DE change?

Be interesting to see exact numbers on the changes (since mormir and pauper players seem to be upset) although I think. M12 sealed is the big problem.

  • Diaries of the Apocalypse: Tribal Weeks 71-72   13 years 7 weeks ago

Kuma, I would suggest that it needs to be a bit different than EvG, because it would be a real shame if Baneslayer Angel and Halo Hunter were not available, particularly Baneslayer which is the most iconic Angel since Akroma and Radiant were around. Banning only the most ridiculous straight color hosers like Gloom and Jovial Evil would be reasonable IMHO. I'm a big Angel tribe fan, haven't busted them out in TribApoc yet but hope to soon.

Btw, now that Elves are on the decline, maybe I could run my Jund BBE list, which I love playing, without getting called "another Elf deck" by everyone other than you. It was basically a rock deck, I even avoided the easy Punishing Grove addition I could have made bc I hate it. Still glad my first win was with Efreet not the elves, since that was my pet deck for weeks and I put lots of thought and testing into it. Mirage is my favorite block alltime. Props to nightstalkers btw!

  • Diaries of the Apocalypse: Tribal Weeks 71-72   13 years 7 weeks ago

Have to give a couple of props on those decks. I have always wanted to build a Thrull deck as Fallen Empires was one of the first sets released when I was new to Magic, and being a kid at the time and the packs being a dollar each, I bought a lot of Fallen Empires. I always backed out of making a Thrull deck due to the power level of a lot of the Thrulls, so props to Vantar with going through with it. I hope that Return to Ravinica gives us another decent Thrull or two.

I also have to give big props to NightViper for the Chimera deck. It looks awesome to play, and I would not of thought about the Glissa Interaction. My one complaint for the deck is he should of waited two weeks to play it as some of the Black one creature matters spells would of been awesome in the deck (namely homicidal seclusion.)

  • Yawgmoth's Soap Opera Episode 58: Classic League Top 8   13 years 8 weeks ago

Oh yeah I guess because Stax does a lot of damage to itself and doesn't have that many flyers to block.

  • State of the Program for May 25th   13 years 8 weeks ago

Over on the official boards, the Momir fans are also sad that their events got reduced.

But whatever, Classic picked up 4 extra events a week!

  • State of the Program for May 25th   13 years 8 weeks ago

The changes to Pauper and Momir are baffling. The price barrier to entry for those formats is extremely low, making them a great place for newer players to start. The decks also don't rotate and the card values are relatively stable (pauper) or 100 percent stable (momir). They were firing events, which can't be said for Legacy and Classic.

I will be shocked if m12 sealed can fire off even half of those events, its a miserable format, being both sealed and a core set. I understand having a lot of sealed for the current draftable set, but 20 events for M12 seems more than fine, and pauper players in particular are going to be up in arms.

  • State of the Program for May 25th   13 years 8 weeks ago

Any indication why the Pauper events were slashed so thoroughly? I get why Wizards would want to push the sealed events ($$$), but they dropped the Pauper numbers even below Modern events and Pauper was the second most popular format. It's not my favorite format, but I'm scratching my head a bit as to why the company would take a format that was launching 30+ times a week and trim the upper limit to 18. Was anything said anywhere?

  • State of the Program for May 25th   13 years 8 weeks ago

So cash-grab sealed formats that nobody likes (m12) get as many events as Standard, but a player favorite that isn't a big money generator gets slashed (pauper). Welcome to MTGO!

  • Diaries of the Apocalypse: Tribal Weeks 71-72   13 years 8 weeks ago

Double Tribal: yeah, there's still margin for jackassery. I tried to make the verify process simple, but the original solution from my conversation with Winter.Wolf was: "none of the creature types from the first deck can be duplicated on the second deck and vice versa". It's a bit hard for you to verify though, even if the two decklists forming the megadeck will be given separately. Maybe we can just say "none of the creature types from the tribal base of the first deck can be duplicated on the second deck and vice versa", but I don't know if this helps much.

  • Legendary Personalities: Superhero Team Up!   13 years 8 weeks ago

Sorry Blippy the null symbols didn't keep :)

  • Diaries of the Apocalypse: Tribal Weeks 71-72   13 years 8 weeks ago

    Thanks, miha!

Yeah, of course there will be a ban list for Angel vs. Demon, much in the same way as we did for Elf vs. Goblin.
